    Super Star

I can't see the future, but there will be a new NBA champion. Here's why!

Thursday, April 16, 2009, 04:24 PM EST [General]

Have you ever had one of those days where everything you did went wrong? Where you got quite intimate with Murphy and his damn law? We've all had that day at some point in our lives. But what happened to the Boston Celtics not only was one of those days, it very likely ended their chances to repeat. And things only got worse just moments ago.

Let's start with the obvious; Kevin Garnett is out for the playoffs (likely). Now, I know that somebody will reply "He's Paul Pierce-ing it; he'll be wheeled out and will be better than ever"! That could be true, but I doubt it; he's missed 22 of the last 25 games with that troublesome knee, and no coach would publicly admit their star won't play unless he's 100% sure of it, or he's blowing smoke. I don't think that Doc Rivers is a smoke-blower, so Garnett's season is likely over.

Can the C's repeat without KG? Hell no! They won't even win the Eastern Conference without him. They'll probably beat Chicago, and perhaps Orlando (assuming they beat Philly), but not a reasonably healthy Cavs team with a 100% healthy LeBron James. Pierce and Ray Allen will raise their games, but I'm not completely sold on Rajon Rondo, and Pierce can't defend LeBron for seven games without wearing down. It's as if the NBA offices in New York celebrated the prospect of a Lakers/Cavs, Kobe/LeBron Finals. And the potential "drama" of the playoffs is completely gone; if there are any upsets, that would be an upset; the top teams have a path of gold to the Finals.

Now, for the other bad news that hit Boston; Celtics executive Danny Ainge was taken to the hopsital after a heart attack. One of his arteries was completely blocked, and has since been cleared. I know what the Ainges must be feeling; my grandmother had quadruple bypass surgery just this week, and her recovery has been slow and painful. I send my best wishes to the Ainges and wish Danny a speedy recovery. Too bad he won't be celebrating a title, since a insignificant injury (compared to his) will hurt him more mentally than physically.

I've been thinking; Some other things you might have predicted

Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 06:50 AM EST [General]

I know this story is about 1-2 days old, but I'm still fascinated by the sheer absurdity of it all. And, amazingly enough, no one on the regular blogs (unless I've been really sleepy. Maybe it's my foot lol!) has talked about it. The story is NBA pariah Isiah Thomas getting back into coaching... at Florida International University.

Who had this coming? Zeke, the man for whom ethics doesn't seem to apply, will try to instill ethics into young men? I betcha nobody saw this coming. I spent the rest of yesterday pondering other things you might have predicted if you had Zeke back as a coach (I did a blog like this last year, too!) and here's what I came up with:

-Pistons coach Michael Curry (can't...stop...laughing...hysterically!) actually devise a solid gameplan and manages his players well.

-Charles Barkley would renounce gambling and lose 200 pounds (no offense, Chuck!).

    -The Lions win a game.

-Lamar Odom wins NBA Finals MVP.

-Speaking of the Lakers; Kobe is their best player? You're wrong; it's Jordan Farmar!

-We can go through an entire PGA tournament without mentioning Tiger Woods.

-Allen Iverson would be described as a total team player who doesn't care about minutes or points scored.

-Shaq chooses his new dream team: the Memphis Grizzlies!

-Manny Ramirez would go an entire season without wanting to be traded.

-No A-Roid stories for the rest of his career!

-A goal would be scored in a soccer game.

-Barack Obama would focus on the pressing issues of the country over sports and what dog he's getting (sorry; just had to get that one in there!).

-Tickets at the new Yankee Stadium are discounted from over $2,600 to just $10!

-NBA referees wouldn't be compared to WWE referees.

-The Lions would still be playing on Thanksgiving. Wait, they still are? Dammit!

-Tracy McGrady would finally win a playoff series.

    And finally...

-Stephen A. Smith would be a calm voice of reason on ESPN!

What do you think about Zeke getting back into coaching (I think Orman said yesterday that Michael Jordan's son is going to FIU. Can you imagine that!?!)? Drop me a line here. Until next time, avoid paying for tickets at Yankee Stadium!

    My absence explained: I'm Back!

Monday, April 13, 2009, 07:10 PM EST [General]

It has been several weeks since I posted here. Trust me; it's not because I haven't had anything to say; I wouldn't be posting here if I didn't. I've been in the hospital with a serious foot injury. I had an infection on my left foot, and a blood blister to boot. I had it cut off, and the foot is healing well (I just can barely walk for awhile). So, I spent most of my four days in bed watching the NBA. And, not to my surprise, I was amazed yet again.

Starting with my Pistons; does it sound sad when you hear the local hacks cheer to make the playoffs? This team had (I must use past tense) made six straight conference finals, and now just getting in is an accomplishment? I almost cried; way to set your goals high, guys. They had better win tonight (they're up eight at the half) and get Orlando, or it's going to be a short run.

I watched the Cavs/Celtics disaster yesterday; it was more painful than my foot! Boston needs to pray that Garnett is healthy and plays well in the playoffs, because the team that was blown away yesterday will not repeat as champs. LeBron simply showed why he'll be the MVP (despite the fact that I think Dwayne Wade should be); great win for the Cavs.

    Finally, some commentary on the NBA awards. Here are my choices;

    Should win                   Will win

MVP: Dwayne Wade, Miami                                      LeBron James, Cleveland
Coach: (tie) Nate McMillan and George Karl         Mike Brown, Cleveland
Sixth Man: Jason Terry, Dallas                                Jason Terry, Dallas
Defensive: Dwayne Wade, Miami                            Dwight Howard, Orlando
Rookie: Derrick Rose, Chicago                                Derrick Rose, Chicago
Executive: Denver's GMs for trading AI                 Danny Ferry, Cleveland

Is it funny how the Cavs are getting the "Will Win" awards? Proof that the media are sheep!

Well, that's all I have in me today. I'll try to post more as my foot heals. Take care!

Never too Early to talk Turkey! How the NFL messed up badly!

Tuesday, March 24, 2009, 09:26 AM EST [General]

There are some things in life that are a given. The sky will be blue (and orange lol!), you'll always pay taxes, and the Lions will stink! But sometime, some things that are a given (or should happen) don't. Today's post will showcase an example of that; the NFL's schedule maker.

For about two years now, I have advocated that the Losers, er, Lions (I always get that wrong!) be removed from the Thanksgiving Day game. While Detroit natives not named me and other people cry "Don't take away our tradition!", I believe that argument is as bad as Monica Conyers' cries to use stimulus money on Cobo Center; they're hollow and antiquated! If you're Roger Goodell, you want people plopped on the couch, consuming enough turkey to make you go "Gobble, Gobble!", and watch your league in action. Witness last year's slaughter, er, game; the Lions were behind before the game even started (I kid)! They lost by 159,472 points! After such an embarassing display (I'd argue the worst the Losers, dammit!, Lions had), the NFL would listen to me and take an ax to the Lions' 'tradition'.

But, instead, they decided to pull a double whammy! Now, not only do we have to suffer with another Losers, gosh darn it!, Lions game (against Green Bay), but the Oakland Raiders play Dallas in the second game! Wtf?!? Were the Toronto Argonauts unavailable? Who thought the kings of losing would be a great doubleheader? I betcha both CBS and Fox feel hosed, since the real showcase game (Giants at Broncos) is on NFL Network, a channel many still don't have! It isn't bad enough that the Raiders are once again slated for the doubleheader nightcap MNF game, but Thanksgiving, too? Al Davis is rolling in his... wait, he's still alive? Dammit!

What has happened here is a blatent case of st**upi***dity that is the ultimate slap in the face by the No Fair League. Why on earth would I watch either of those games when I can catch up on my dinner? And what if both teams have 1-2 wins by that point? What will you market? The turkey? It perplexes me, and you'd think they know better.

Well, that's my rant. Do you think the NFL messed up by putting the Losers, jeez, Lions and Raiders on primo territory? Leave a comment and let me know. And for the record, I am NOT saying that there should be only one game; they should rotate the Lions game amongst the other teams, and put worthy opponents against Dallas. That's all. Now have at it!

Thoughts while having... Random Sports Thoughts!

Friday, March 20, 2009, 11:16 AM EST [General]

I've seen that so many bloggers have done "Thoughts while..." blogs, so I'm gonna do what I do to other ideas I like; I'm going to rip them off! Better yet, I'm going to do that while launching some more Random Sports Thoughts! (copyright to whoever started this craze!):

The Lakers hung on to beat the Warriors 114-106. Nice to see that the bench has dispelled those worries about it.

While looking up the box score for the Lakers/Warriors game, I read a quote from Magic Johnson where he said that Pat Riley turning 64 was "a beautiful thing... even more so because he's not coaching anymore.". Magic is right... about it being beautiful that he's not coaching.

Phil Jackson is only four games away from passing Riles for most games coaching the Lakers (727). Glad to see that Alex Trebek has more range than just Jeopardy!

I watched parts of both the Cavs/Blazers game and the Michigan/Clemson game. Both were great cures for insomnia.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers and referee Bill Kennedy were fined (Rivers $25,000 and Kennedy an undisclosed amount) for the recent dustup they had. So, Rivers was fined for complaning... and so was the ref, which would suggest that Rivers was justified? Is anybody else confused?

Andrew Bynum is said to be about a month away from returning to the Lakers. And a month away from being criticized by bloggers like me!

Despite not having their coach, UConn beat Tennessee-Chattanooga 103-47. In related news, alumnus Terrell Owens said that TC would've won if they just gave him the damn ball!

My fantasy baseball draft is tonight. Unlike A-Roid, I'm not a narcissist. And I hope I don't choke in October!

Speaking of Mr. Roid; is there any other way he could mess up more spectacularly than the Details photos? Only if he married Madonna after the shoot!

Then again, he is getting into Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless territory; he's making me feel smarter!

NBA TV showed three of the San Antonio Spurs' title-clinching games last night. Also a great cure for insomnia.

Chris Webber real felt good that Michigan beat Clemson last night. I wonder how much he got from the booster to say that.

    And finally...

I'm planning to take a trip to San Antonio this summer to see my friend. Maybe I should have thought about not saying those Spurs comments. Dammit!

That's all I've got today. Until next time, may the thoughts about thoughts continuw to flow!
