No, I'm not referring to the Chicago Cubs seemingly endless run of bad luck regarding the MLB playoffs, specifically a World Series Championship. I'm also not referring to the Boston Redsox curse, which ended when they beat the Yankees after trailing the series 3-0, then beat the Cardinals in the World Series.
This story, as you might guess if you have studied my conspiracy theories, and keep a close eye on Wisconsin sports, is about the Milwaukee Brewers and Bucks winning on the same day. Rarely, if ever, do two highly publicized teams in this state win on the same day. In the case of the Wisconsin Badgers Football team and the Green Bay Packers, wins by both teams the same weekend are few and extremely far between.
On April 29, however, the Bucks and Brewers both took care of business, and did so in impressive fashion. The Brewers disposed of the Cubs 16-2, knocking the ball all over the field, as well as over the fence 6 times. The offense was extremely impressive, as twice the Brewers batted around in a single inning. Not only did they hit 6 homeruns, but were very successful hitting with runners in scoring position, something they have struggled with so far this season. The pitching was pretty good also, although Doug Davis continues to have trouble with walking opposing hitters. About the only thing to complain about on this day, was the fact that the defense comitted 2 errors, both on throws to 1st base. I guess if ever there was a time to have a couple errors, this was it, as they had little bearing on the game. Lets just hope it doesn't continue to be a problem.
As for the Bucks, they finally got a victory in their playoff series against the Detroit Pistons. Having been severely outplayed in the first 2 games of the series, the Bucks used their best weapon to take control of game three early in the third quarter. Michael Redd, who struggled greatly in game one, and was still merely average by his standards in game two, exploded for 40 points, including 15 in the third quarter when the Bucks pulled away for good. T. J. Ford contributed 15 assists, and the team finished with more assists tonight than they had in the two previous games of the series. 34 assists tonight after a combined 30 in the first two games.
Does this mean my conspiracy theory is coming to an end? Probably not, since it is only 1 day and 2 games. What worries me is the long term implications this could have. The theory actually states that ALL teams in the state can't win on the same day/weekend. So there is still the possibility that with the NFL draft still in progress, the Green Bay Packers could potentially be considered losers on this day, if any or all of the selections made in the draft turn out to be incapable of performing in the NFL.
