good ol' bud selig
he has apparently told the houston astros they need to hire cecil cooper as their permanent manager. now, cecil is one of bud's old brewers, but that isnt why selig supposedly wants him to get the job. its because bud wants more african americans and other minorities hired as managers.
hey bud, maybe you should tell the brewers to hire him. while you may have the authority to tell teams they need to hire more minority managers, you do NOT have the power to make them hire a specific person. i believe that should be left up to the owner and GM of the team searching for a new manager, not the commish of the league. say, how's that steroid investigation going?
tiki, strahan, when will it end?
who else thinks we'd all be happier if the giants had fired tom coughlin at least 2 years ago? now, barber wrote a book claiming he'd still be playing if coughlin was gone, and strahan sat out all preseason because coughlin doesnt make him all warm and fuzzy in his happy place.
memo to NYG management:
please, if you care at all about keeping your players happy, or attracting free agents, fire your coach already.
signed,
not even a giants fan.
...the last time somebody dropped a bomb like this, the U.S. fought WWII.
as if michigan didnt feel bad enough already. first they lose to division 1-AA apple dumpling state, and then they free-fall in the polls from #5 to #32.
i keep hearing that lloyd carr's job is safe, his players still like him, and people still think michigan can have a successful season. sorry to have to tell you this, but losing your 1st game to a team that cant even be considered for a BCS game if it goes unbeaten means your season is already a failure, even if you do manage to win the rest of your games.
to boo or not to boo?
now that the bucks have Yi signed, the question was raised whether the fans should boo him on opening night at the bradley center.
i cant understand why this would be a good idea. he had preconcieved notions about the city already, and how it would not be a good place for him to play. not a large number of asians, cold climate, and the idea that he wouldnt get the playing time he needs to improve himself for next year's olympics.
it took 2 months of negotiating to even sit down and talk with him and his handlers. the threat of sitting out, trade demands and who knows what else happened over that time. fans are concerned that he may not play well or that he'll leave in 3 years. i'm more worried about him getting booed early on, playing poorly his rookie season, and THEN refusing to come back next year.
forget all that. he's signed, and lets just see if the kid can play at the nba level before we boo him mercilessly. he's going to be uncomfortable enough playing in a very unfamiliar place. we dont need to make it any worse by confirming his fears of milwaukee being a less-than-friendly city.
chuck-e-buckets refused to name his opening day starter, but now he decides to inform the world he's starting his freshman?
chuck blew this one big time if you ask me. he should have named his most experienced qb for last week's game and let the chips fall where they may.
but this week he announces on tuesday he's starting his freshman? if there ever was a time to hold back an important announcement, this was it. not only do you give your opposition more time to prepare for an inexperienced qb, you also give him more time to worry about the pressure of trying to pull the team out of and 0-1 start to the season.
i have a feeling we're going to see plenty of his other 2 qb's again this week, but not necessarily due to ineffectiveness by claussen. i think it will be because claussen will be peeled off the turf with a giant-sized spatula about mid-way through the 1st quarter.
