    The BS...i mean BCS

Thursday, November 2, 2006, 02:37 PM EST [Texas Longhorns]

The Bowl Championship Series should consider dropping the "C" in the acronym to more accurately reflect what it is.

Being a Longhorns fan I have been left pondering how my team could be ranked 4th in every single poll, yet be ranked 7th in the BCS.  I have no argument against Ohio St. and Michigan at #1 and #2 respectively.  West Virginia at #3 will meet #5 Louisville tonight with the winner leaving little debate about who should be third.  And then there is Florida...  Now heres a quandry that Auburn fans are contemplating.  Would it not make sense that if a team beats another team in the same conference, with each having identical records, that the team that defeated the other be ranked higher?  Its ok Tigers fans, im kind of trying to figure that one out myself.  Texas at #7, which i will get to in a moment.  USC at #8 is understandable, being that they lost to an unranked Oregon State squad.  Notre Dame has only played one quality team all year, Michigan, who spanked them.  Cal could easily make a case that they should be ranked higher than USC with their only loss coming in a tough road game at Tennessee at the beginning of the year.  They beat up on the team that USC lost to, Oregon State, 41 to 13.  So after tonight, spots 4-10 will be up for huge debate.

Now back to the biggest travesty in the BCS right now, Texas.  Its perplexing how a team could be ranked 4th in every poll, with their only loss coming to the #1 team in the nation, yet be ranked 7th in the BCS.  With the almost certainty of moving up atleast one spot in the human polls with the loser of the Ohio State and Michigan game dropping that would put the Horns at #3 in every poll.  Then they will only be a West Virginia or Louisville loss away from being #2.  We might see quite an uproar if Texas is the consensus number two in every poll and doesn't get to play for the National Championship.  Just a thought.
