    ESPN; SOMETIMES IT JUST CACK!

Thursday, September 6, 2007, 09:49 PM EST [ESPN]

WHY ESPN SPORTS COVERAGE IS CACK.

OK so you have a late game here on the East Coast; starts at 10.30 EST, that's a 7.30 PST start; DC United playing Chivas USA; a pretty important game and one that is worth watching; DC could complete a seven game win streak.

    BUT NO!

ESPN DECIDE TO BE REALLY CACK ABOUT THE GAME!

I'm sure that the meeting before the decision went something like this,

BOB:  Looks like we are going to have a scheduling conflict tonight.

    BILL: What teams

CHARLIE: The Louisville game will over run by like twenty minutes or so.

BILL:  So! So what's the problem then?

CHARLIE:- Well we've got some crappy soccer game scheduled to start at 10.30pm EST.

BOB:-So are we going to delay the start of the MLS broadcast?

CHARLIE:- No way! Who cares about soccer anyway?

BILL:- I understand that it's likely to be a good game.

CHARLIE:- Soccer, good, those two words don't work in one sentence, unless it's "Soccer is good for nothing!"   (LAUGHS)

BOB:- So what do we do?

BILL:- What's on after the MLS game?

BOB:- It's NFL Year Book, tonight it's about the Indianapolis Colts.

CHARLIE:-  Do you know what is involved with rescheduling NFL Year Book?

BILL:- Yes, we have several available slots it'll take you all of about five minutes to complete the changes and send them out, we always have a few hours in the schedule of filler or re-runs.

CHARLIE:- But do I have to do anything?

BILL:-  Just fill out the request, its one screen.

CHARLIE:-  I'll miss my coffee break though.

BOB:-  I can fill out the form whilst you grab a coffee.

    CHARLIE:-  No way!

BILL:- Or I can do it.

CHARLIE:-  A crappy soccer game, the muppets can just miss the first few minutes, soccer, what is going to happen, nothing it will be dull.  Who will care.

    BOB:- You are the boss.

CHARLIE:-  Is that Posh Boy playing?

    BILL:-  You mean David Beckham?

CHARLIE:- Yes, the English nonce with the hair?

BOB:-  He plays for LA, this is Chivas.

    CHARLIE:- Definitely no way!

So to the people who will tune into the Chivas USA v DC UNITED game will see a ticker at the bottom of the screen telling them the game will be on at 10.53 EST.

So the people tune in at 10.53PM EST, they've missed the first goal, DC have scored within the first nine minutes and the game is nine and a half minutes old.

So instead of being reasonable about this; ESPN after all do make a big deal about their football coverage; the production team or broadcast team or scheduling team or whoever has that responsibility decides to be a complete muppet.

How difficult can re-scheduling a magazine program and delaying the broadcast of the football match for twenty minutes?

Someone in TV land, tell me that this is easily done.

    Sometimes ESPN really are cack.
