Beckham hits LA, greeted by fans, the mayor and the MLS head honcho.
I really like the stones Alexi Lalas showed with his move for David Beckham.
He's fought an uphill battle to get such a talented player to come to the MLS.
Will Real Madrid ask him to stay? Will his newfound success for England become a problem? How will his team mates handle a celebrity in their midst?
Alexi Lalas stuck to his guns and brought him over. He, along with the Galaxy organization; will have plenty to keep them busy on the business side of things.
On the pitch Frank Yallop will now have a world class right footed midfielder to slot into a team currently wallowing in the West just above Real Salt Lake. On TV yesterday he said he'd be looking to play Beckham in the middle; where he plays most often for England; and not wide right.
Looking over the Galaxy roster I can see a real challenge to come for Yallop, Beckham isn't about pace, he isn't about dribbling and tricks he's about delivery and going box to box. He's an astute footballer who is world class at free kicks and corners.
So how does Yallop integrate Beckham into the team? Does he play a 4 4 2, 4 5 1 or 3 5 2, does he see Beckham as the Riquelme of the Galaxy?
Against Chelsea, Beckham will get an easy introduction into the team, the next games; against Pachua and CD Guadalajara; if he plays; he will need to be in good form and working well with his team mates.
The Acid Test will be against Dallas, this is when he will be expected to make the difference and Dallas are a good team, nine wins to the Galaxy's three.
Time will tell, but I'll definitely see the Galaxy as they come and play DC United in August.
