Telfair wants Maxwell's number..... Are you kidding me!

Tuesday, July 11, 2006, 05:28 PM EST [NBA]

I just read that Sebastian Telfair is trying to bring Cedric Maxwell's number out of retirement so he can wear on his jersey it next year. Now as I think about this, I realize I don't even know who Cedric Maxwell is. I am only nineteen, so he probably was before my time, but since his number is retired, its safe to assume he was a great basketball player. Its one thing if a player like Kobe was traded to the celtics and he wanted to bring someone's number out of retirement, but this is just Sebastian Telfair.

I dont understand what Bassy's thinking process was on this one. There is a fairly simple reason why certain sports players had the honor of having their number retired, so the number is not used by any other player ever again. Who does Telfair think he is to pry one of sport's greatest personal achievments from Cedric Maxwell, without having any deserving stats to back up your request. I am not saying its right for a player with great numbers to request a retired legend's number, but if you are gonna ask someone for his number, at least don't put his number to shame with mediocre numbers at best. Let me know what Y'all think about this and write back.
