Blogger Competition - Most Important Packer Since Reggie White

Monday, October 15, 2007, 03:37 PM EST [packers]

This man could determine whether the Packers will win the NFC North (I almost wrote Central) and make a run in the playoffs.  This man reminds me of Admiral James Stockdale, the 1992 running mate of H Ross Perot.

It's uncanny isn't it?  Actually, Stockdale is famous for his first line in the Vice Presidential debate: "Who am I?  Why am I here?"  As out of it as the man was, he was perhaps the most honest speaker attending the debate.  But I digress...

Anyhow, who exactly is the man atop this page?  KGB? Donald Driver after a Mickey D's run?  Al Harris after he lost a bet?  No, no, and no.  That man is DeShawn Wynn.  As a fantasy player DeShawn Wynn is not an unknown to the in tune blogger.  To the average reader out of step with the 2007 Packers, DeShawn Wynn apparently plays running back for the Packers.

In fairness, DeShawn Wynn has played pretty well.  Or, a cynic may say, he has been the best of the worst.  When Ahman Green was essentially out last year with an injury, the Packers traded chronic fumbler Samkon Gado to Houston for Vernand Morency.  Normally, when you say "I want this player" you put him in as many situations as possible to succeed.  Add the fact that the Packers used a first day draft pick to nab Nebraska's Brandon Jackson, and one would have to wonder how much playing time someone like Wynn would get.  Oh but wait, there's more!  Here is this bit of player news from August 21, 2007 on Green Bay RB Noah Herron:

Noah Herron is expected to make the Packers' roster because he is the team's most effective pass blocker.

This likely means DeShawn Wynn will be cut. Brandon Jackson could lose third-down work to Herron until Vernand Morency returns from his knee injury.

To date, Wynn has the best YPC (4.1) with the most carries amongst Green Bay's "Big 3" running backs.  Wynn also has four touchdowns, catches the ball out of the backfield (9), and even has a kickoff return to his credit.  Deshawn Wynn, taken in the seventh round, may be the Tom Brady of running backs.  Coming from Florida, he knows about winning, just like Brady.  Ever since Ron Wolf left the team, there have been fewer winners in the fold.  Deshawn Wynn needs to continue showing that winning attitude to end this platoon nonsense.  Making the team appears to have been a victory in its own right.  Ascending the depth chart appears to be a reality.  Usurping the throne held by the Bears appears to be within sight.  If Wynn succeeds, the burden won't be on Favre, and this team will in fact win the NFC North.
