Calling All Mizzou Fans!
Aug 31, 2008 | 11:57AM | report this

Calling all Mizzou fans! Wake up!.....get excited about your team---make it worthwhile for sportswriters to cover Tiger football. I've waited all my life for my Mizzou Tigers to be a legitimate contender in college football--and now that they are...the majority of sportswriters are overlooking them b/c there is simply not a large enough fanbase to sell to regardless of their on the field success. Missourians and Mizzou alums need to get a good dose of home state pride and start cheering on their team. If fans would get a little more excited it would create a little momentum--a little bit expectancy of the program, players, and coaches. A program needs that to succeed--to be a year in, year out contender. In the south (SEC country) college football is bigger than the NFL, bigger than anything and that's why their teams are (while sometimes overrated) always national contenders. Have a little pride in your team--raise the bar of expectations, and think of the possibility of a new college football dynasty!

You guys were no one-season wonder.

Expect good things.

Get excited about giving up 40+ pts and 500+ yards. You're gonna need 50+pts/game and 500+yards/gm with that porous defense.

I am excited to be a Mizzou fan!!! We totally took over a bar in down town Seattle for this game!!

We outnumbered U-dub (not the #### badgers, the #### dogs) fans 2-1 in this bar, and were about 1,300 miles away from ground zero.

I think it is slowly picking up steam, more so than even last year. Last year it wasn't until the Tech smashing did I see the fervor and excitment, that I saw even two months ago; let alone this last Saturday!!!

The Illini ran that long bomb play 6 times, and it worked 4 of those times, because of a plethera of reasons;
1) a true freshman covered one play like he was a LB.....got toasted
2) Moore was up front playing more of a hybrid LB/SS more than just a true saftey which left no outlet for the inexperience on the corners
3) One was just an amazing throw and catch with great D in place, just they caught it

4) Vaughn is an ####....

Good Defensive showing no, but problems that will be fixed

Anyone who makes that comment about our defense knows very little about the game and gives Illinios very little credit for being a great football team. Mizzous D will be just fine, the issue was with the adjustments Zook made and the lack there of on Mizzous part. As for the fan issue; were you in St. Louis this weekend? Were you in Kansas City last year? I was and I can tell you there is no shortage of fan support. Did you see the Sports Illustrated cover? I think your off on the fan and media support--Mizzou is a media dream come true as long as they win

Both teams looked great the other night. I do think both D's need to solidify in order to make the teams true championship caliber squads, but it was the first game of the season! They have all year to fix tweak their defense and most likely it was just the match-up. Illinois has a nice offense, even without Mendenhall, so Mizzou had their hands full. Good start.

Illinois is the second best team in the Big 11, so I am not worried about those second half points.

Zook is a great halftime adjustment coach, just as he was at Florida.

Pinkle is NOT, and as a fan I have been pounding that point every year since he took over. While the talent and speed have excelled under his tenure, there have been many games in the past that HE blew with bonehead second half calls and mediocre adjustments.

Up against Stoops, those blunders were VERY apparent in the second half of the Big 12 Championship game. The same with the loss in Norman.

Luckily, we'll see Texas Tech in the Big 12 Championship this year.

Missouri secondary was considered the weak spot coning into the season. They were exploited 4 times for TDs. They will however tighten that up.

However, the D-line look good and got good penetration.

Illinois looked like they took a page out the OK play book and tried to roll out wide and use williams arm strength. That makes it tough for any team to cover vs a pocket passer.

Mizzou will get better and the haters need to consider who thier teams played. Dont compare a the Offensive Production of Illinois to the FSC teams that Georgia, OK, LSU, PSU, OSU played Illinois can and will put points on the board. As the season goes on this missouri win will look better and better.

You're having a great season, Mizzou. For an old alum like me, you give me plenty of reason to wear my Mizzou t-shirt and baseball cap. I'm getting respect I never got as a student!
