Luis Scola, of the Euroleague, signed a deal with the Rockets today. He happens to be one of Europe's best players. I honestly don't know that much about him, but I'm excited for him and for the Rockets.
Coach Adelman said of him, "What I saw on tape was someone who's always moving and always active. He plays hard. That's what really impressed me."
"He's going to be a great attribute to Yao," Adelman said. "The more passers and more scorers that you have on the floor, the harder you are to defend. He really fits that bill. I just thinks it's going to be easy for him. I showed him a tape earlier of what we like to do and he fits right in there. The biggest adjustment is probably going to be at the defensive end, which it is for every young person in the NBA."
Just found it. Good move for the Rockets. The guy the Spurs got doesn't even want to return to the NBA. Maybe the Spurs and convince him. I do know that the buy-out Tau was asking for for the rights to Scola was astronomical. Dice-K type of stuff.
Don't expect much. Jerome James could go to the EURO league and put up 20 and 10 on a nightly basis.
I've watched Scola play many times. He's OK as a 24-minute per night backup, but nothing more. He's active and plays hard, and he can hit an open 16-footer, grab a few boards, but that's where it ends.
At best, he's like Kenny Thomas. Still, not a bad signing. Just don't buy into the hype that he's the best player outside of the US. He's from from it.
Maybe Scola would be good if D'Antoni or Pop coached him, ey?
Dude, it's not nice to rain on yao-fan's parade. Rocket fans are grasping at straws here. It's bad enough T and Yao are only going to combine for 100 games played next season.
The Rockets need to show something this year, really. I'm a big T-Mac fan. I think when he's playing at 100 percent, he's one of the best players I've ever seen. I like he put the team on his back and took the blame for their first round failure. I think he's going to win a ring before he retires, unless his bad back gets the best of him.
The Rockets have had bad luck the past couple of seasons with injuries, and Van Gundy is an awful coach. Like Larry Brown, he tries to institute game plans that don't necessarily work best with his personnel. When resistance is met, these guys just keep sticking to the same plan. They lack the ability to adjust, and that makes their teams one-dimensional teams that live and die with one style (throw D'Antoni in this discussion). Meanwhile, teams like the Spurs make adjustments and win titles (Popovich is the best coach).
I think the Rockets need a fresh start and some good health. Their point guard situation really worries me. Alston was awful last year, and James isn't really a point guard.
Bonzi is the key. The guy needs his touches. If he can play up to his level, and the Rockets can stay healthy, I think they can reach the Finals.
