DOWN WITH THE BCS
Dec 30, 2005 | 11:24AM | report this
As everyone probably knows, 2 of the 3 weakest of the major conferences in college football get to compete for the national championship for the 2nd straight year, while conferences like the ACC, SEC, and Big 10, who actually have quality teams in them, get shafted.  Is a team that goes 10-1 in the Big 10 (Penn State) who's only loss was on the last play worse than a team that goes undefeated in the weak Big 12 or Pac 10.  I think not.  Let's all be honest, who else in the Pac 10 or Big 12 is difficult besides USC and Texas.  Maybe Oregon, but Oregon only played 1 tough game, against USC, and lost.  So Oregon hasn't beaten a quality team, therefore we do not even know if they are decent.  Both Texas and USC each played 1 tough game (Ohio State and Notre Dame).  Other than that, they all played a bunch of cup cakes.  If you put Texas and USC into the SEC, ACC, or Big 10, you are looking at two 2-loss teams.  Stop the whole BcS series, it only rewards pathetic conferences.  Next thing we'll have is a mediocre Big East team going undefeated and playing for the national title.  The BCS was not originally designed to reward weak schedules, but it has been tweaked by the NCAA to make teams like Texas and USC look better than they are.  The original BCS had strength of schedule and quality wins as components.  Everyone who is part of or a fan of the Big 10, SEC, or ACC needs to speak up and help stop the rewarding of national championships to the Pac 10 and Big 12 by the NCAA!  Let's come together and stop the travesty!
