Last Sunday all the races in the Talladega Trifecta took
place. Forensic2 sat on the edge of
capturing his third straight victory vying to tie the all time Trifecta record
of 3 wins in a row. Fittingly the lead
was as much a hot potato as the lead of a restrictor plate race and changed
hands after every race. In a surprise
turn of events Dave_in_Indy an admitted open wheel fan, was able to run the
table and collect his first Trifecta victory of the year. It should not be too
much of a surprise though as 2 of the races were of the fender-less variety. Non the less, congratulations to Dave_in_Indy
on your win with a score of 14
This week’s NASCAR events will create the bread in a
Kentucky Derby sandwich for the Twin Spires Trifecta
First up on Friday night the Nationwide series will go after
it under the lights of Richmond International Raceway. The Lipton Tea 250 goes at 7:00 pm ET
Second, just after 6:00
pm ET, the 134th Kentucky Derby will be called to the
post. As we sit now 20 horses are
entered in the event and your favorite can be found here. Also check out this blog if you really want
some in depth information.
Third will be the Sprint Cup event, the Crown Royal 400 set for Saturday night at
7:00pm ET.
All drivers/horses are eligible to be picked and double pick
penalties will be applied. Your car race
picks are due before the start of the Nationwide race, but if you need to edit
your Derby
picks (horses are often scratched very late) you can do so until 6:00 pm Saturday. Please do so in a second comment though as
the time on your comment determines who picked said driver first.
Thanks for your cooperation and participation and I hope
everyone gets to enjoy a mint julep, or just the adult beverage of your choice
while watching the most exciting 2 minutes in sports. Don't forget your hat ladies...

jjd- do you like to put things on fire??
dave- your 10 in the hole, you think you can come back from that?
forenic- cool coal man--that was the first horse to jump out at me too.
tez-is squiz a typo or a downunder word?
beaver-i hope your not watchin' the race. the nascar police will take you away
gerrel- i dont pay attention to the horse until this time of year either
kvalus-glad to have you aboard. i think your hot and not list may come into play in a upcoming trifecti
yeemum- i love your derby pick. i'm pullin for her to be second to my horse
dwindy- i hear you about the last names, i will try to be a good host and warn everyone ahead of time about their potential penalty, but it is required to look at those who have chosen ahead of you.
hanahan-could this finally be your week?
lori-what about smoke?
Sure. Unless the first 3 to 5 respondants do really well, I like my chances. Unless Kyle breaks, he'll be up high. And Big figures to be a top finisher too. If I were to pick any of the leftovers, I'm guessing they'd be likely to be no better than 7th or 8th - so I'm comfortable with the penalties. I was torn between Pyro, ####ego (sp?), and Big Brown - but decided to take a shot on Brown.
Which headlines? Clinton II gaining on Obama - by virtue of incredible gains (30% gains in the past two weeks) among white voters lacking education beyond high school? That the candidates who pander to the population by offering up "summer gas tax breaks" or support for massive corn-derived ethanol subsidies GAIN our support through such unsound posturing? That we may well find ourselves unable to staff our highest office outside of the realm of two families during the past 20 years?
Rise up, gather round
Rock this place to the ground
Burn it up lets go for broke
Watch the night go up in smoke
Rock on! (rock on!)
Drive me crazier, no serenade
No fire brigade, just pyromania, cmon
What do you want? what do you want?
I want rocknroll, yes I do
Long live rocknroll
No worries williamwilman- A promise is a promise! I won't watch any racing that doesn't have Danica Patrick in it! If she ever goes to NASCAR I will spank her, and not watch then either. While NASCAR is going on, I will be in the garage working on the '63 Olds Cutlass I am restoring. I am sure I will enjoy that more! I will however check out F2s and your blogs, JJD, D-i-I, Moseby, Lisa H, Hanahan and others, just won't have as much to say!
WARNING! ! DO NOT VIEW THE FOLLOWING IF YOU HAVE WEAK MUSIC MINDS ! ! !
"The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy."
Get THAT outta your heads ...
I can add more verses if you remain unscarred by recognition of the "melody" that accompanies this verse.
God did we really listen to that Drivel from that Canadian HACK? I had a prof that thought the sun rose and set on his lyrics....go figure...and now it sounds like we have a power surge while we're listening...Give me Neil Diamond!
"It's a small world after all....it's a...."
or
"It is the song that never ends, it just goes on and on my friends....."
as i see it we have Dave_in_Indy with 10 and JayJayDean at 5.
beaver- canadian hack?? careful, i resemble that remark, and live about an hour away from where gordon lives. also it must be noted he is the only musician i have ever heard to do a lengthy interview on the sports radio station here. he is a big leafs fan and always seems to have time for a fan.
jjd- i wonder if your dating your self with your love of the def. by my best guess your pushing forty. lol.
oh ya and my picks thats why i logged on in the fist place.
nw- jason lefler
derby- big truck
cup-martin truex jr.
jon- i don't think mark martin is at the race this weekend, you might want to try someone different in the nw race. i don't know why i didn't write that earllier. i thought i had

W- I have nothing against Canadians. I speak fluent Canadian. I love maple leaves, and beer, eh? So what is the deal with Lightfoot? Maybe Hack is the wrong word...is there a word in Canadian that works better? hahaha...
"Oh Canada....."
interesting trifecta notes here. we have 13 folks playing and 5 drivers have been chosen in both the nw and cup races, and no one choose the same in both(i.e a weekend sweep) also noahspop is missing out cuz kyle was not one of the ones chosen in the cup race
ver unofficial here cuz i want to go to bed. mostly from memory after 1 race

dang, I knew I should have just picked Ragan for both races, lol
and don't worry, Will, you only have to last another 5 weeks before I double the Canadian contingent on the trifecta (unless you're not the only one there currently...?) :P
William, I shouldn't have to have that big a penalty for an incorrect entry. I saw Martin entered in the Nationwide race in the 8. Penalize me 25 points for that, but not the full 43--I DID have an entry. You're right--you didn't give me enough notice when you posted your blog on Wednesday instead of Tuesday. I was in a hurry for the NWS entry and didn't peruse the entry list thoroughly and was rushed.
I hereby appeal my penalty, as it is excessive and wasn't notified in a timely manner.
P.S. In the future, please leave me enough time to make my decision. I work late on Wednesdays (until 11 PM here in California) and it was very unfair to me.
P.P.S. If my penalty is denied, I'm withdrawing for the week.
This is for fun, and (to my recollection) is normally posted on Thursday evening, not Tuesday (I know this was the case last year).
Most of us have made selections that earned us a buttload of points. Yours happened to be 43 this time (I've been there). It does kinda ruin your weeks chances - but that's all part of the game.
Enjoy, maybe you'll have the satisfaction of keeping Yeemum off the bottom!
Dave, I was in a pissed off mood when I wrote this because I had to work late again last night after I had made plans to go to an outdoor concert, and it was a BEAUTIFUL evening here. I didn't get home from work until after the NW race ended. We'll see who has the last laugh!
jon; don't worry, the trifetca brings out the worse in all of us....take your frustration out on the drivers, it's far more therapeutic I've found. Granted, the neighbours probably wonder what I'm doing but I don't really care, LOL!
Congratulatio ns to Dave_in_Indy winning the Great Canadian Trifecta on June 10 2007. His blog "A Partially Able Mind" is a collage of sports info and a must for anyone interested in the Indianapolis 500 or the IRL. Congratulatio ns to JayJayDean, winner of the 2007 MonsterMile Trifecta on June 05, 2007. He has a great blog analyzing NASCAR's points system called JJD's NASCAR and other stuff blog. Congrats need to go out to 14Falcons, the 2007 winner of the Memorial Day weekend Trifecta. Every race fan needs to check out his blog, Kierkegaard's Stages. As for me, i am just another racing fan, from Canada, with opinions like every one else. other than racing i love Dave Matthews Band, playing guitar and all sports in general. favorite drivers include Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, and Dale Jarret. favorite sports teams are Toronto Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, Notre-dame football, Chicago Bears, Syracuse basketball.
