First of all I would like to
apologize for posting a little late this week.
It has been a wild party here at headquarters since williamwilman’s
victory in the Texas Trifecta. I was
successful (a.k.a #### lucky) in picking the winners of the IRL and Sprint cup
race to win the weekend going away. To
top off my weekend I was also correct in picking the Kansas Jayhawks to win the
NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
Unfortunately this was one of the few bright spots in my bracket. Things
are calming down now in time for an early card of races in Phoenix
and something a little different in this week’s Trifecta.
The first race this week is the
Nationwide event set to start at 9:30pm ET
Friday night. For this race we will be
playing “Jack Ingram Cup” rules, meaning only drivers who have never won a Cup
level points paying event are eligible to be selected. Check out our sponsor JayJayDean’s preview of
the race.
The Final race of the weekend
will be the Sprint Cup event. All
drivers are okay to pick for this one and it goes off at 8:00 pm Saturday.
The meat of the sandwich that
these races create is going to be The Little 500. For those who don’t know
(that was me a couple of weeks ago) this is an intramural bicycle relay race
that is held at Indiana University
every spring. It has been going annually
since 1951 and was featured in a film called “Break Away” in 1979. For those not familiar with the race, or the
teams participating, check out the link and click on "teams" at the top of the page.
It goes at 2:00 PM (Indiana
time(I’m unsure if they are eastern or central time). Special thanks go to another of our sponsors,
Dave_in_Indy, for the suggestion this week.
Same rules apply for double picks
this week, and are due before the start of the Nationwide race. If you have any suggestions for something you’d like to see in
the Tri, just let me know and I will try to incorporate it. Good luck to
everyone.
Kinda shootin' in the dark on that bike race... Living here in Florida I've got to think tropical.
Here ya go!
Nationwide - John Young
Little 500 - Parrothead Cycling
Sprint – Carl Edwards
Looks like winter has raised it's ugly head again! They're saying we might even see lows in the 30's Sunday - Monday nights! I'll have to bundle up! Now that's something down here! Here's hoping it won't last too long...
EDIT - DAMMIT again! Didn't see Han's pick. O.k. - I pick the next qualified yet un-picked, non-Cup winner who follows "Stremme" alphabetically (will be happy to figure this out later if you don't have time - can wait until after the race as I'm just picking from the "whoever is left after the pickin' is done" group.

um im kinda busy right now but will check in with the rest of my pick during the nw race this evening. i make the rules, i break the rules. lol. begging your forgiveness. brb.
okay... i get my chance on the computer now (as my lovely bride heads up to bed). still getting down to in the nationwide run here and my pick is looking healthy for the moment. here are my 2 picks for tomorrow
the little 500- black keys bulls
cup- martin truex jr.
and a bit of house keeping.
HotfootLori and Gerrel have chosen teams from the womens race which is not technically "the Little 500". if you could amend your picks to includ teams in the left hand list that would be great. sorry for the confusion. also it says only 33 teams start the bike race, but 35 teams are listed, so i wanted to apologize in advance for anyone who has picked a team not participating in the race.
i am also taking jjd's comment for truth about kenny wallace.

These are the Cup level winners ineligible for the Jack Ingram Cup this evening. If I have missed anyone feel free to correct me.

now who would have thought it would be so hard to find results of the little 500

if anyone finds the results from the bike race it would be nice if you could direct me in that direction.
Holy #$*@ - it appears, after including the Little 500 results, I have nearly maxxed-out on badness of picking.
Tony Stewart? Fiji? FIJI? The most consistent biking team in the Little 500 over the past decade and they barely make the Top 10? (or did they fall out of the Top 10 - have seen two unofficial versions of the results - although one comes from a student at the event who likely was not in the best shape to remember what place Fiji finished).
Happy to work with Yee Mum on making the middle tier pickers feel better about themselves ... It's a gift.

Didn't watch the race didn't feel that it was worth it.
Nothing exciting to write home about at all.
But I understand the hype over the series and that's as it should be.
But what they ought to be watching now is the health of Sprint the primary sponsors of the series as they're having some serious financial problems that'll no doubt take time to fix.
Don't be surprised if they should look to opt out of the obligations to NASCAR soon.

wm....You have me at 15 points. I think my Cup and NW drivers both finished 10th.
Or, are you not counting Cup winners in the final results for the NW race? I don't keep up with all the different blogger's own points systems. Can barely keep up with the official one.
IRL- No one...they didn't race
CUPPhoenix - Jimmie Johnson
NW phoenix -Kyle Busch
F1 -No one...they didn't race
Cup This Week- We are all winners they are not racing...Fox has the day off YEA!
BTW I would like to be first to pick Dale Junior at Talledega, always Danica and Who cares in F-1?

William was using my Jack Ingram Cup-scenario this week, where if you have won a Cup race you are ineligible for the Nationwide Series title. Five Cup winners finished ahead of Stremme, so they don't count.
its suffering from scheduling conflicts on my end. sorry i should have results out tonight along with this weekends contest. sorry for the inconvenience.
Congratulatio ns to Dave_in_Indy winning the Great Canadian Trifecta on June 10 2007. His blog "A Partially Able Mind" is a collage of sports info and a must for anyone interested in the Indianapolis 500 or the IRL. Congratulatio ns to JayJayDean, winner of the 2007 MonsterMile Trifecta on June 05, 2007. He has a great blog analyzing NASCAR's points system called JJD's NASCAR and other stuff blog. Congrats need to go out to 14Falcons, the 2007 winner of the Memorial Day weekend Trifecta. Every race fan needs to check out his blog, Kierkegaard's Stages. As for me, i am just another racing fan, from Canada, with opinions like every one else. other than racing i love Dave Matthews Band, playing guitar and all sports in general. favorite drivers include Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, and Dale Jarret. favorite sports teams are Toronto Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, Notre-dame football, Chicago Bears, Syracuse basketball.
