After being hosted by a able
blogger (HotfootLori) last week, the Trifecta returns to its original home and
will encompass NASCAR and Formula 1 this week. The
object of this game is to achieve the lowest score, picking drivers who you believe
will win their respective races. The finishing
position of each chosen driver is summed to produce your score. The participant
with the lowest score is declared the winner and gets praise and ribbing from
fellow bloggers.
This weekend’s events start with
the Nationwide series visiting the half mile oval in Bristol. If history has taught us anything this
promises to be a long drawn out affair, with many caution periods and a parade
of sprint cup stars at the front. The
race is scheduled to roll off at 2:00pm ET
and this is when picks are due.
JayJayDean has written a great preview for this race if you want to
check out who will be running this weekend.
All drivers are able to be picked The second race is the Formula 1
opener from Melbourne Australia. It is scheduled to go at 12:30 am ET. (That
is the wee hours of the morning for any new fans hoping to catch the
race.) jbroomy has written a great
preview of the season in his blog, if your wondering what to expect. The final race will be the Sprint
cup event at Bristol to start at 1:30 pm ET.
Hopefully it will be a good race, as there were mixed reviews after the
night race last fall when the track had been re-worked.
All drivers are eligible to be picked,
but a penalty will be given to folks who pick drivers already chosen. For the formula 1 race the penalty will be 3
points and 5 points for both NASCAR events.
Just wanted to ask if two people can pick the same driver if they are in different series races. (In other words can the same driver be used twice without penalty if they are picked for different races...NW and Cup?)
Since I wasnt sure what your ruling is, I will pick nobody listed in either group yet.
NW - Kevin Harvick
F1 - Fernando Alonso
Cup - Dale Earnhardt Jr.
I think that jon464 made his picks in one of Lori's blogs a few days ago, and had Harvick as a Cup choice. That's why I asked my question above. If I cant use him for NW, then I will pick someone else, since jon picked first.
okay i have to clear up a few things.
umm.. no offense to anyone, and i will take into consideration if you need to make your picks by proxy because you will be away, but i can only accept picks made as comments pertaining to each post. this is to give everyone an equal chance at getting their favorite drivers. what i am trying to say is no saving seats.
secondly if for instance kyle busch is taken in the truck race, he his still eligible to be taken in the nationwide, and or cup race. if you feel so inclined you could pick him for all three.
Nationwide - Denny Hamlin
F1 - Felipe Massa
Cup - Kurt Busch
EDIT: Also, I don't typically do this (and in fact I hate it generally when people do), but with SO MANY damn people blogging about NASCAR lately posts hardly stay up on the blogs-front page anymore. Therefore, I am pimping my own blog here (one time only) because I tackled a pretty big project and I'd like as many people to read - and comment - as possible. So check it out and let me know what you think.
Sorry Wil... I was just relaying a message - but you are right. We should not save seats. Still wondering why Tez didn't pick Ambrose... hmmm.. maybe I should change my pick.
JJD ~ you already know what I think about your professional-style writing. It rocks. You have been linked to FOXSports NASCAR page now. Congrats!!!
Hmmm. That'll make for some interesting comments. LOL.
I know you guys are cool with my stuff, even when it veers off into über-nerdiness. I was reaching out to the peeps who only read the blogs on the frontpage because with so many people posting blogs the five on the front page change quickly.
lori- np. i just made the executive decision on that this morning.
jjd- you can advertise for your blog here anytime. it is one of my favorites and more people need to read it.
klvalus- its really easy to offer good first prize money with sponsors like "JJD's NASCAR and other stuff blog"
and one more thing, either your all being really nice to me, or are showing me that you haven't been keeping tabs on all the driver changes in F1. my (not so) dark horse to emerge and win the drivers title is still up for grabs driving one of those quick mclarens
I had to find the F1 website and do some research-
All the names I was semi-familiar with had been taken.
(teach me to be late for class)
Maybe it'll work out for the best for me?
I wonder if we will hear from our newest NASCAR followers here? Yep I'm trying to push comments too :)
funny stuff tez.. i wonder why everyone stays so far away from carl edwards. he's won half the races this year, and is the only driver to win on this configuration at bristol
WW - Carl has the NASCAR Gods mad at him for you know what, So it mgiht be awhile before the Gods are letting him in victory lane.lol
I,m feeling good with Jimmie if Photogr is willing to take a few points. The sleeper in F1 David Coulhard say,s he likes his car and chance to score some points. Now its down to the BIFFFF.
Greta job Whoopie !! If it keeps up you will always keep that under your butt. Glad to see you up and around again, William being back on, NOW WE ONLY NEED TO GET CUDA BACK. Cheers all
i am going to try to stay awake. last night i tried watching qualifying from my bed, and made it through the first 2 sessions, but had to scan the web to find out what the actual problem was with the ferrari. i woke up when hamilton crossed the line, so i knew he was p1 but was incoherent for the rest of it. this time i not going to watch from bed. i hope.
that was about as good as it's got for Kimi, Will.
spent far too long behind Rubens then threw the win away by not pitting under the safety caution that came out mid-race (he was on a 1 stopper which made it even more curious) before chucking it off the road trying to pass Kovy for 2nd. He's now back down in 11th....a podium is gone for sure, lol
kimi retired it and still received points. scoring said that rubens finished the race, but received disqualifcation. for what i do not know. i was so close to taking rosberg too. boy o boy.
Gerrel-------16
photogr------17(when i went to bed trulli was running well i thought. if he had finished the race you would have won the week hands down)
Tezgm99------20
YeeMum-------22
jon_464------32
HotfootLori--35
Forensic2----45
Dwindy1------47
williamwilman-48
JayJayDean----51
klvalus-------54
one other note. we picked the top five finishers in the cup race. impressive, when you consider we had a hard time picking just top spot last year.

Congratulatio ns to Dave_in_Indy winning the Great Canadian Trifecta on June 10 2007. His blog "A Partially Able Mind" is a collage of sports info and a must for anyone interested in the Indianapolis 500 or the IRL. Congratulatio ns to JayJayDean, winner of the 2007 MonsterMile Trifecta on June 05, 2007. He has a great blog analyzing NASCAR's points system called JJD's NASCAR and other stuff blog. Congrats need to go out to 14Falcons, the 2007 winner of the Memorial Day weekend Trifecta. Every race fan needs to check out his blog, Kierkegaard's Stages. As for me, i am just another racing fan, from Canada, with opinions like every one else. other than racing i love Dave Matthews Band, playing guitar and all sports in general. favorite drivers include Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, and Dale Jarret. favorite sports teams are Toronto Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, Notre-dame football, Chicago Bears, Syracuse basketball.
