The Brazilian Paperclip Trifecta
Oct 18, 2007 | 7:36PM | report this

Well it appears this year that even NASCAR, in all their meddling ways, couldn’t come up with as close a point chase as in Formula 1(check out jbroomy’s blog, a great preview to this race). Come to think of it, the IRL series had a wild finish, racing down to the last lap, make that that last corner to decide its champion. It seems with all the tinkering they are still in for a runaway. I know, its not over yet, but judging by the last 31 races and Gordon’s unwillingness to show even a crack in the armor, a lot of folks are writing the finale now. They still have to run the races though and that allows us to pick who we think are going to win them. Bringing us to The Brazilian Paperclip Trifecta.

The first race on the ticket this week is the Truck race from Martinsville. It goes off at 2:30pm ET. Saturday, so this is when your picks are due.

The next race is the Brazilian Grand Prix. It starts at 11:30 am ET Sunday. This has the potential to be one of the most interesting races of the year, make that the decade.

The last race is the Nextel Cup race also from Martinsville. It is scheduled to go off at 1:30 pm ET. Sunday

All drivers are open to be picked and picking drivers that have been chosen is a 5 point penalty.

This week we are going to have a tie breaker (more just for fun). How many laps is the longest green flag run going to be in the truck race?

Forensic:

Pick Clint Boyer for the cup race and Bodine for the truck race. Formula 1, ( guess yu wil go with Hamilton?) you are on your own in F1.

My dart boards say these are the second best picks.

Right, let's see if the beginner's luck from the Kansas weekend is still with me.

Trucks: Travis Kvapil
F1: Filipe Massa
Cup: Tony Stewart

As the tie breaker - 34 laps - have some faith in truck guys.

PS - Dario to finish 23rd - 3 laps down
PPS - Thanks for the plug

I want to jump in on this one.

Fernando-jbroomy has educated me- and I have been listening to ABBA this week.

Kvapil - he looked good last week -and his name is so fun to say.

Now the cup Hmmmm

I think Tony Stewart is p.o'ed enough to make a showing this weekend.

Damn!!
That's one ugly dog, or moose, or ferret, or whatever the hell that is.....

J. Gordon should win all three this weekend..... plus, he will also win "Survivor", "Fear Factor", the celebrity "Dance Contest" and the lottery..... it's just one of those years.

i'm going to a wedding this afternoon so i will have to tape the truck race (this means there will probably be no yellows

my pick are
truck benson (thanks for the idea dave)
f1 hiedfeld
cup jr. ( he always does well there for some reason)

I only just showed up and I lost points!
I didn't know I had any to start so no problem.
I didn't pick a tie breaker but I don't think I'll need it. 32 sounds good to me.

To top it off I am out of beer and I have to go to town for smokes.

Oh yeah On the dog pic. It is not a dog. It is Forensic in the flesh.

Forensic: Sprague came in second in the truck race so you are not high scoring yet this week.

I'll take the F1 finish ... but clearly chose the wrong guy in the Trucks race.

Fortunately, picking Jimmie on Sunday has proven much better for me than it has for others this season.

My self-serving memory tells me I've won with Jimmie three times now (out of, say, five picks).

Lucky? I think not. (particularly within the context of my overall contest performance)
