Kansas could go down as the most controversial race of the year.  All in the name of the Chase, NASCAR was put in an uncomfortable position of trying to intervene between Mother Nature and fuel strategy.  In the end, though, they almost completely got their way, having 5 of the chaser’s finish in the top dozen (keeping the points still fairly close).

Talladega: the chase’s great unknown, being the first super speedway race with the CoT, rookie driver Jacques Villeneuve making his debut and the inevitable looming “big one”.  As it turned out the rich got richer and the stragglers struggled creating a 3 car break away for the points lead.
