Well folks this weeks Trifecta is going to be put together
really quick. It has been a long day at
work but I did want to get one in this week as it is the finale of the IRL
season.
First on the card is the Nextel Cup race from Richmond. Although it is the final race before the
chase, it’s all but academic at this
point. The race starts at 7:00 ET on Saturday night
Next we have the Italian Grand Prix from Monza. It is slated to go at 8:00 am ET on Sunday.
The last Race will be the final IRL race at Chicgoland. It is scheduled for 3:00 pm ET on Sunday afternoon.
Same rules for double picks this week but there will be no
bonus for picking the Cup winner as we have figured out how to do that as a
group.
Congratulations to photogr who won for the second time in a
row last week, making it two weeks in a row successfully picking the cup winner
ok i know i am running a little late here folks. we (my wife and i) are entertaining tonight and i have not seen the t.v. at all. you'll have to trust me
its ok folks, in the words of pearl jam, im still alive. just been rather busy entertaining family. i have been able to catch very small portions of the first 2 races to catch the jist of them, but was surprised to see jr. so far back after he ran the doors off gordon and stewart. he looked good last night.
here are your results after the cup race
Dave_in_Indy--------1
photogr-------------2
jon_464-------------4
IowaGirl------------7
volfan69------------11 (i do believe that is the best anyone has done picking newman)
williamwilman-------15
Tezgm99-------------20
JayJayDean----------30 (near the end i was thinking if it goes as you predicted i was just gonna quit scoring and give the week to you)
Forensic2-----------42 (i don't think you can blame that on picking last)
you could definitely see who had good cars on the high speed tracks this week. the hondas that forensic and i took had good results, even though i had rosberg written down and then changed it at the last second. also i just notice the i picked the same as jjd. i'm going to change that unless anyone protests. i don't think a threat for the win. but jon_464 i just want you to know about the 5 point penalty for taking frachitti. photo took him before you. sorry. i will let you change it if you can before the race starts.
your second event results

well well well let the IRL blogs begin. that was quite an ending. i'm not sure i completely agree with ashley's assessment that dario had no help at all. i think it helped that his teammate danica spun giving them a caution to make it the distance on fuel. that had to help a little.
anyway onto more important stuff like Dave_in_Indy coming so close to scoring the perfect trifecta. 2 spots shy. nicely done though.
Well it is now official> Forensic is the top Stopper in driver choices closely followed by TEZ and me. Forensic had a rocky start but is comming along on his own for stopper of the week.
congrats to Dave_in_Indy
first-- he writes a great piece on his personal high school football experience.
second-- he scores an unbelievably low 5 on the trifecta.
third-- he gets a email read on dave despain's wind tunnel tonight. (even if it was sucking up to how good despain's show was last week(lol.. i'm just jealous)).
well done dave. ( i am assuming it was your email that was read. there is only one DAVE IN INDY right?)

Thanks for the compliments; however, I haven't sent an e-mail to Dave Despain or Speed (although I really like his show).
I think they just say the person's first name and the town they're from when they read them. We've got a few Daves here in Indy. (about 19,000 of them as of 2004).
And the danged fuel-strategy finish of the IndyCar race cost me a chance at a perfect score this week.

Am I the only one who likes to imagine Gene Simmons bellowing "DAVE IN IN-DEE" whenever I see a post from him? I can't be, can I?
I also L-O-V-E-D Ashley Freaking Judd calling out the IRL on Milka Duno in the post-race interview. I only wished I'd heard Robin Miller's thoughts on Ashley's comments. That was beautiful.
Darn Junior blowed up his motor six laps too early.
Can't find any news reports about Judd's comments about IndyCar and Duno. Mind recapping?
I can't believe anyone would say that IndyCar didn't bend over backwards for Duno - she has a lot of development work to do to run on the ovals at the very least. (not all that unusual for older first year drivers to be parked by IndyCar - reactions/timing are radically different than the sports cars and rally cars these older drivers usually come from)
Basically Ashley was complimenting Dario for being out there without a teammate against the Ganassi and Penske cars (up front, anyway) and went off on a tangent - here's the cut-n-paste from the AP:
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) - Exhausted and exhilarated following his narrow victory, Dario Franchitti kneeled by the rear of his car moments after he beat Scott Dixon to capture his first IndyCar Series championship Sunday.
It was his moment, his day. But wife Ashley Judd got her turn in the spotlight.
The actress put on a dramatic performance during a brief TV interview in which she praised her "sweet little husband" for surviving the "bloody sharks" on the track and ripped rookie Milka Duno, saying she has no business on the track.
"You saw the Penskes work so well and the Target guys work so well, and my sweet little husband was just out there with the bloody sharks," Judd said after the season-finale at Chicagoland Speedway. "They just sharked him all day. And he never gave up hope. He just hung in there and ... was in a great position. And I know that this is not very sportsmanlike, but they've got to get the 23 car (Duno) off the track. It's very dangerous. I'm tired of holding my tongue. When a car's 10 miles (an hour) off the pace, it's not appropriate for it to be racing. People's lives are at stake."
Duno, in only her seventh race of the season, placed 15th, 16 laps behind the winner and finished ahead of just two drivers who completed the race. Her average speed of 159.855 m.p.h. was nowhere near Franchitti's 173.886.

I think this article is a little harsh on Ashley. She was only given so much TV time because Dario ran out of fuel on the celebration laps and they had to S-T-R-E-T-C-H while they waited for him to get to Victory Lane.
Sounded like a typical Hollywood response to an interview.
She might be right about Milka. 16 laps seems like a mighty large spread for this race and the speed if it was 159 MPH seems too slow for a safe track condition.
Thanks for the info JJ.

Thanks JJD. I think most will cut Judd quite a bit of slack, as she's been so good at making sure to NOT take the spotlight off of her husband in the racing environment prior to this moment.
There have been plenty of Milka Duno's in IndyCar over the past decades; IndyCar had parked her for a bunch of races earlier this season, and must have either thought she'd shown competence enough to give her a shot, or they figured there was some marketing material to milk from her (although there isn't). I'm guessing most IndyCar drivers would quickly, albeit privately, agree with Judd.
