Photogr showed us all how to get it done by having the low
score and taking the Open Wheel Trifecta.
Sunday’s prize was very much in doubt until the closing laps of the CCWS
race from Edmonton Alberta. photogr, who proclaims to know very
little about open wheel racing did very
well pick great finishes in all 3 races with a worst pick of 6th. His closest challengers were HotfootLori (who’s
pick of Wheldon continued with his own issues) and Tezgm99 (who managed 2 first
place picks but could never fully recover from Kimi’s hydraulics/ gearbox
issue).
Some have called photo’s win a result of sandbagging while
others have said he was #### lucky.
Which ever the case he proved himself a winner taking his first Trifecta
and continuing to lead the points with the lowest picking average. It is also worth noting he is 1 of only 3
players who have competed in all trifeci to date.
Congratulations photogr.

Well this weekend sees the F1 and IRL teams off and the cup
boys are visiting the famed Brickyard for the 400 mile event there. We have never picked the winner of a cup race
and the bonus points for doing so are up to -10 this week.
The first event on the schedule is the Busch race from Indianapolis
Raceway Park
at 8:00 pm on Saturday evening. There are not many cup drives listed try the
race so all drivers are eligible.
The second event is the Nextel Cup race at the Brickyard
which starts at or about 1:00 Sunday
afternoon.
The final event is the NHRA event at Infineon Raceways ¼
mile strip starting at 3:00pm EST. The way this is going to work is you can pick
the winner of either the top fuel dragster or top fuel funny car but you can
not pick the same driver as some one else.
There is a possibility of having 2 winners but that is okay. I didn’t want to limit us to just 16 cars,
but your average will be calculated against only 16 cars.
Your picks are due before the beginning of the Busch race. You can change you NHRA pick up until 2:00 pm EST Sunday because I am not sure when
qualifying will be posted. If you see it
posted please let us know.
The same double pick penalties will be applied for the first
2 races and the second to pick a cup race winner will not receive any bonus
points. A double pick for the NHRA event
will not be considered.
Busch: Cale Gale
Cup: Kevin Harvick
NHRA - Ron Capps
[Although I'll have to continuing doing research on this one just in case Dave is trying to sandbag me lol]
Good luck everyone!

Busch - Damn, think Edwards is a strong favorite - o.k. - - I'll go with the Biff.
Cup - Jeff Gordon (will be pulling for both Gordons and for JP Montoya - Robby and JP are now my favorite Cup drivers, but gotta go with Jeff for the win on Sunday).
Ron Capps is leading the points standing. I've always liked Gary Scelzi, although he's back in the pack. I don't really follow the series, and just pay attention when they get here for the US Nationals.
Old timer John Force has been doing well lately - his first half of the season wasn't so good, so he's not very far up in the standings.
And no, not watching practice. The rain just let up, likely for good this weekend. Not sure if they'll practice, but I'm heading over there anyway.

Cup - Jimmie Johnson (I want to see if I fair any better than photo, lol)
NHRA - you seriously expect me to know anything about dragracing? If anyone has a link that would be good since I know nobody in it (the only guy I know in that type of racing is Victor Bray, lol). I'll go John Force since Dave said he was in decent form before photo came on here, lol
photo; as much as I respect you, there is no way I am ever going to pick someone with that last name....Adelaide '94 and Jerez '97 still riles me up a bit, lol
TEZ: Keep John Force or Jim Head for the Funny Cars. And Schumacher for the Rails..
There are two classes Funny cars are in fact funny looking. The rails are in fact a rail with the same motor but no body to speak of..
Another factor about drags.. There is only a 1/4 mile track. You only get one pass to win. There are variables to that. If your engine blows up during the run which they do frequently you loose unless yore going fast enough to pass your opponent who also blew up..The other factor. You have only an hour usually to rebuild the engine before the next round and hope it doesn't do a grenade on you at the lights.
okay guys im glad to see you all scrambling a little bit. photo i think this may be up your alley but i only need one NHRA pick. you'll have to narrow it down a little tighter.
did any one watch cup races in the early 90's. back then nhra coverage was awesome. we would watch the cup race and right after nhra coverage would come on. first they would bring up to date the days events and the final hour would be the final rounds for the bikes, pro stocks, and top fuel funny cars and rail cars. it was awesome and the only time i really followed drag racing closely. i pine for those days.
great to have you on board cudaguy.
and dave i don't know how much longer i can let you play if you're a robby gordon fan. lol.

Yeah next time narrow it down to Funny car or Rails.. Too confusing to pick who is who.. in what is What is What..
What is this #### about me sand bagging??? How is that possible??? #### lucky??? I don't think so. I use a formula to pick drivers that will place high or win. No sand bagging here. It is all high tech. Only variable is J Johnson or the driver I pick wrecking or blowing up.
Sorry TEZ::: I #### up when listing Funny cars and rails with the drivers....
sorry photo. i actually wanted to keep it as general as possible so that folks who don't follow it might have a chance with a name they know ie. Bernstien, Capps and Force. if i get enough interest we will narrow it down.
Oh, and if any of you have the opportunity to attend a Top Fuel NHRA event, GO! You'll be glad you did.
Nothing like it in racing - a Space Shuttle launch is kinda similar. A blast of sound, exploding in your chest and simply unfathomable, violent acceleration. You simply can't get ANY feel for the event from a T.V. broadcast.
does it count by going to a local drag event? Those are rather popular here....just take your car and give it a go, lol
oh and I might not be able to pick next week, Will....the local rally boys are coming to town. We've already been asked if we can move all the trees back 20 yards for one guy, lol
Dave: Just don't try to inhale air when they fire up the engine in the pits for a test. The fumes will gag you if you are close by.
No speed limits at all. A heads up 350 MPH pass is the norm now for rails or Funny cars.. Odd how a small bore?? engine with a huffer can accelerate so fast in so little time ( around 4 seconds or less).
they are technological wonders. i've never been live but just watching reruns of speed's PINKS make me long to watch top fuel again. we get like no coverage here. dave is right, even on t.v. the acceleration doesn't seem real. and tez those cars maybe fast at the local track but top fuel is just mind blowing. fast doesn't do justice in describing them.

Before they put speed limits on the jet cars ( now governed to 250 MPH and exibition runs), that was a bigger blast literally.
UMMM Wonder if my old IHRA Top sportsman 650 CU. in. engine can fit in the family car for a few runs for nostalga down the old 1/4 mile track..See you guys later.. Gotta do some digging..
Nope Tez. Gotta be Top Fuel. The alcohol cars get close, but it's Top Fuel that's the full experience.
The tickets can be pretty steep, and you want to be near the start tower (in front or behind no more than 100 ft., preferably less - but you'll still feel the sound anywhere up to about the finish line.
And Photo, sounds as though you have experience gagging on the fumes. I've always wondered what it would be like to stand with the crew near the start - I believe I'd wear a Depends.
I wish..Always get a twitchy right foot when I watch drag racing. Yea, I miss it but the wife always brings me back to reality when I start digging around in the garage.
the other thing totally amazing about drag racing is how they completely teardown engines and inspect everything between rounds. the last i heard was 1 round in a top fuel car cost about $5000 per car. their pit crews put nascars to shame.
I think one of the most interesting aspects of top flight racing, whether it's Cup, IRL, F1 or NHRA, is the incredible talent and capabilities of the crews. I think ANY of these crews can tear engines down and rebuild them in very short turnaround times. The professionalism of an F1 crew reminds me of mission control on a moon landing. A bunch of people who know exactly what they have to do across a very wide variety of contingencies, and who do it flawlessly and almost wordlessly.
But to tear down hot, massive engines so routinely and get them out, ready to go in about 1/2 hour is indeed incredible. I'd love to see a documentary about the responsibilities and performance of pit crews in major racing.
uh, is Wimmer racing? I don't see his name during qualifying....if he's not I'll go with Mike Bliss (Landon is a new driver so I switched again, lol).
Dave; you're absolutely right. A full engine change in F1 takes less than an hour and a gearbox is done in about 10 minutes. So for them to do an engine is half an hour is amazing....mind you, I wish I could get my tyres changed in 10 seconds too but that don't happen, lol
NHRA- Tony Schumacher
Cup - Mears
Busch - Almirola, strike that, Darnell
I'm torn on the Cup - I'd like to see Stewart, and Kenseth is a good pick as is Hamlin, but a Mears at Indy sounds magical - and he's driving the same car as Gordon/Johnson.
ok photo, I have done some extensive research to why they use grid girls. All I found was loads of pics of scantily-clad ladies so I won't bore you with any links (including a Miss Limo one....think I'll need a cold shower soon).
But I can't find any reason to why they introduced them so I did all that perving....uh, searching, slip of the keyboard there, for nothing.
Iowa; JJD took Aric....you'll have to pick again if you don't want a penalty, lol
William: Don't know if time ran out yet but I picked Jeff Burton for the cup . kenseth didn't look too good.
Tez: Grid gals. Here is the story..The track promoters needed a diversion to keep the fans occupied before the races as they were bored. One had an idea about having a beauty contest to keep the fans occupied and happy.
The first contest was a fully clothed contest and over the years, they wore less and less till what they wear today or lack off. In many sanctions, this is the highlight of the pre race festivities and thus became a tradition.
With all the man made tehnology sitting around at races, it is nice to appreciate nature made technology standing by the race cars.
TEZ: That was my logical reasoning behind the Grid Gals.. Good that you did your research.. Now about the web sites. Care to share so I can do more photography technique research.
oooo, it didn't cut the links in half like it usually does. that is 2 links by the way and will take you ages to examine them thoroughly enough with the photographic techniques used no doubt as there are a lot of pics there.
what a crazy Cup qualy too....that shakes up my standings a bit, lol
surely we've pick a cup winner this week. we have 3 former winners of this event and 7 of the 9 are winners already this year. we've got almost a 1/4 of the feild covered, if tirfecta participation keeps growing like this soon we'll have the entire field picked to win. we can do it and i think this may be the weekend to do it.
by the way everyones nhra picks have made it through qulifying so we are all good. the brackets can be veiwed @ nhra.com in the results section.
my pick by the way is larry dixon. i don't want to edit my comment with the other 2 picks.
and photo im taking jeff burton as your final answer. you had almost another 1/4 of the feild covered with your picks. trying to break the stopper omen i guess, eh.

Will; I should get bonus points since I own a Toyota :P
and remind me to never provide the updates for the Busch race on here....swapping between a live feed, the FS updates and the comments page, nuh uh, not doing that again for a while, lol
IowaGirl-darnell q'ed the car but ragan drove it. for now i will give you his points but its up for debate whether or not it will stand before the trifecta judges in the morning.
