This week’s Trifecta is all road courses,
all on Sunday, all over the world and all in open wheel race cars. That’s right; this week will have nothing to
do with NASCAR. As the cup teams are off
preparing for the Brickyard. We will be focusing our attention on arguably the
3 premier open wheel divisions in the world.
First up the Formula 1 cars are
at Nurburgring for the European Grand Prix.
It starts at 8:00 AM EST. Second is the IRL race at
Mid-Ohio. It starts at 1:30 PM EST. Third is the Champ car race in Edmonton
as they race at the airport race track set up there. The most interesting challenge for our
contestants might be finding a T.V. station to watch the final race on. If you are able to catch it let us know where
we can see it.
I do imagine that a winner in each race will be picked and
we could be looking at a record low score weekend for someone but I just wanted
to let you all know there will be a large asterisk (nothing like Barry Bonds
will have though) beside that record because of the few number of cars involved
in the Trifecta. This week we are
looking at about 60 cars in total. Last week
the total was 97. Picks are due before the first race on Sunday morning. Rules for picking doubles still
apply. 5 for one, 10 for two and 15 for three.
There is no carry over bonus this week as there is no cup car action. Good luck to all.
Dave_in_Indy i hope this is enough of a fix for you. actually i hope you don't OD
photogr no worry about jimmie screwing with your weekend. time to breath easy.

Feel pretty good about Alonso. Should be a tight race between all four drivers (McLaren and Ferrari).
Think Wheldon is due - both Ganassi drivers are gonna be strong in this race. But also have a hunch that Penske will do better this race (can they continue to stink it up so bad for another race? surely not).
And Bourdais - - the rest of us are hoping for second, or mechanical failure for Sebastien.

You have got to understand I look at these photos on a purely technical( photography) stand point. Proper exposure, blending the back ground not to over shadow the subject matter, Posing structure to blend with the thirds rule, and appreciation of Gods greatest architectural creation of the world.
Yep.. Just technical stuff here beautifully done..
found a video with Marcos on Trackside this year....loved the bit about him knowing there was probably an 80% chance that he would last 6 months but he wanted to give it a crack anyway, lol
wow what drama as hamilton loses a tire and wails the barrier. will he get a good lap in the back up car? i hope he is 100%. the clock is frozen with a little over 5 min left.
he got out of the cockpit on his own but they stretchered him to the ambulance. hopefully he's back tomorrow

I hope he is too, Will....this is worse than Robert's shunt in Montreal since Lewis instantly stopped while Robert carried on down the track for a while.
Precaution statement from Ron Dennis; Lewis is ok and has no broken bones....they're juyst holding him in the med-centre for a couple hours for observation.
So excellent news so far then....hopefully he'll be good to race tomorrow.
tez- for sure his head snapped hard, but at least the deceleration was slowed down by the tire (or tyre if you prefer) barrier. kubica's was into cement i believe, but it was a little more o####lancing blow, plus he was slowed a little by just nicking a first barrier with his rear wheel and a little more dramatic with the roll over.
still hamilton stopped quick. do you think the legs moving was just a reaction or was there something to that?
I think he was moving his legs to check....making sure everything still worked.
One thing's for sure though; that was a mega-hard hit and the car did its job to dissipate the energy since he's not seriously hurt. I mean, to go from 200 kph to 0 in under a second....I can't *begin* to imagine what that would feel like.
Oh yeah, Robert's was the more spectacular, but it's crashes like this one that tends to cause the injuries; instant stop....and no reset button like on the computer, lol
Anyway, it's past 1:30 here so I am going to bed :P
Missed the qualifying on T.V. - sounds like a nasty one with Lewis ... Also sounds like a candidate for a concussion or neck/back injury - with luck, no.
He certainly seems exceptionally fast. But Alonso had a very good day today, very consistently fast throughout the qualifying sessions, just couldn't pull it together for the one super hot lap.
I'm happy to stay with Alonso and feel optimistic about his race tomorrow, although certainly understand that Kimi is the clear favorite. I think I would have chosen Alonso anyway (over Hamilton and Raikkonen and Massa). Just a hunch.
at least it frees up hamilton to be picked yet. thnx photo. does he have to start at the rear if they change cars or just engines?
dave do you think any of the media have started in on a conspiracy theory that alonso sabotaged lewis' run. if you can't beat 'em wreck 'em
volfan thanks, you give me too much credit. good to see you again and enjoy the weekend

If I were in the media, I'd be working the angle that Photog sabotaged Hamilton's run. That's a far easier case to make: Photog selects "X" in the Trifecta, "X" suffers some kind of misfortune. If Alonso was involved in some way, he was simply a pawn in a far more grand, supernatural conspiracy.
Hey, Guys and Gals, do you all remember that photo said a couple of times "read my lips" I'm not entering the contest? Well, I think his lips are the kiss of death to some of these drivers! photo, we love ya man! Pick the people that you want to lose--don't pick the people you like.
Will, it's only if they change engines that you get a 10 place drop....but if Lewis can't drive (haven't checked ITV yet) then McLaren are in a bit of a bind; you can't change drivers after qualifying gets underway.
I tell you though, Webber had a good run (but is car will die on him) and so did the Toyotas....Nick will be fired up on his home track though. Should be a pearler of a race (particularly if Lewis races....he'll give it everything from mid-field)!
Ok, he's been given "provisional clearance to race"....has to pass a medical on Sunday morning. I still say he was bloody lucky.
yay, volfan's back! I don't actually think we've picked in the same Trifecta so I was starting to think I'd put you off it or something, lol
If I sound a bit hyper over Lewis' shunt....I remember watching Michael slam the wall at Silverstone in '99 and try to get out of the car but couldn't. When I saw Lewis do the same I went "oh ####, not again!"
perhaps, but can she drive well enough on a road course? I think the usual guys (Helio, Dario, Tony and Scott...even Marco) will go to the front come tomorrow.
she was at the top of the charts yesterday too, i think(maybe that was qualifying) don't worry about being hyper tez. i'll say it again, F1 qualifying is the best thing in motorsports right now. full of drama and with hamilton hitting the wall it was "can't look away" t.v.
it was hard to get hyper last night too....Aussies lost to NZ in both the Rugby and Netball leaving only Webbo and Cadel Evans (Tour De Pharmacy) to carry the flag, lol
I am beginning to think my picks are cursed and my lips are in fact deadly.
Danica is in #2 spot for the race.. UUMM, I for see her falling back after the first few laps.. On her qualifying she seemed quite loose. I am talking about the car loose. She is hot..
Dave:
I do seem to be involved with mystery incidents at the tracks don't I? Wait a minute.. Some body is at the door.. OOOPPS it's the cops .. Gotta go..
Danica actually grew up road racing. Her first notoriety came when she went to England and finished second in the Formula Ford Festival, the best finish ever for an American driver. It's been somewhat surprising that she hasn't done as well as she has on ovals, but thinking about it the RLR drivers never were too hot on road courses.
Oh My.. Just saw a news flash about Alonza getting hurt at a party at the track.. Says he might be out of the race..
The report stated that Hamilton pushed him over a balcony of the second floor party suite and yelled " looked like you needed a push" and laughed. Although not hurt seriously Alonza complained of pain in his left shoulder and ribs.
Treated and released from the hospital, Alonza was advised not to race in case of a possible rib fracture.

thats cool volfan
and thanks for the updates last night guys. i caught the last few laps on the radio. from about when carl slapped the wall till the end.
anyone watching this crazy f1 race. it is just wild but appears to be drying out a little now.
Did you see the news story about the 14 squirrels "arrested" in IRAN for spying? Well, they are here also. One of them saw my three picks and secretely messed with Schumacher's car. Darn squirrels!
