This weeks Trifecta is going to be an all NASCAR competition (sorry Dave_in_Indy) to get us through the off Cup week next week. Next week I am planning a special all open wheel edition. This week we see the trucks, Busch and Cup guys all in action all in the mid-west but at different tracks.
On Saturday afternoon the Busch cars are at Chicago supporting the Cup series. The race starts at 2:30 est. and this is when your picks are due. Only non-Cup regulars are on the ticket again this week. This includes drivers who have made less than half of the cup races this year.
On Saturday night, 7:30 est. the trucks do battle at the Kentucky speedway. This event is open to all drivers.
On Sunday at 2:30 est. the main event is on, as the Cup cars go for it at Chicagoland. The trifecta has never picked a cup winner so if you are lucky enough to do so you will receive -5 from your total score. This is going to be awarded like the old Unocal bonus so every week that someone doesn’t claim the prize the bonus adds by -5. This score will not be reflected in the points system but could easily turn a bad weekend around in a hurry.
The same rules apply for double picks this week, but if you double pick the Cup race you will receive a 15 point penalty no matter if you have doubled before or not.
So leave your picks and I’m going to work on updating the points from the last 2 weeks.
Dave i seriously hope this will get you through. i know it can be tough but if you keep an eye on next week you show us all how to get it done with those open wheelers
Cup - Jeff Gordon
Busch - well, with Almirola out, I'll take Ambrose
Trucks - they race trucks? damn - off to do research ...
o.k., here it is, ... TRAVIS KVAPIL (man, that dude is AWESOME).
Off for some post-Trifecta-selection downtime - you know, a beer, maybe a little t.v., maybe chase the wife around the table, ... normal Friday evening stuff (which would actually normally take place on Thursday evening if William would keep to his schedule)

Wait a minute GOt to check out who is not a reg in the Busch..
I was going to go with Hamlin but felt even thought Stewart is way back, he would drive like hell just to get back on Hamlin's bumper just to wreck him..
Dave you got that right.. Just watch him this weekend go out on the first lap.. The lowes cheat sheet says he will be dominant this weekend but have to see what Stewart does to get to Hamlin. Might be a wreck fest till then..
Trucks - Marcos Am...oh wait, that was last year.....um, is Benson racing? I'll take him if he is
Busch - Steve Wallace
Cup - Matt Kenseth (you're ####, Dave....watch my man take Jeff out with a handful of laps to go as payback for last year, lol)
right, now that is out of the way....here's an idea I had the other night. One of my best friends is organising a camping trip in mid-2009 around the Vancouver area. Obviously I'm not going to go just for a single week or however long it'll last so I'm guessing I'll have around a month or so over in North Am.
Would anyone be interested in a 'Trifecta tippers' race weekend? I don't mind flying to the East Coast since the only West Coast one will (probably) be Sonoma which I went to last year....want to go to an oval this time :P
Just thought I'd ask....and you've got a couple years yet anyway, lol
i just looked at a map and realized that these races might not be in what is the mid-west (showing my ignorance here). anyway what do you folks call this area??
tez a get together sounds like a cool idea. i wonder if your schedule allows for us all to catch a race some where. it doesn't have to be a marquee event. just a local dirt track or something like that would be a great place to meet. anyway lots of time to think about it.
EDIT: but i guess your coming all this way your going to want to see a big race. duh... it just dawned on me. lol.

And the get together sounds great. Plenty of options - I could host at Indy in late May - and there are plenty of NASCAR options. We could do an IndyCar race, and take Photog's jet to the NASCAR race later that evening.

photo has a jet....dang, he can pick me up from NZ then! :P
#### about that, Falcons....we even saved Bobby for you. Ahh well, you're busy on your contest post so I guess we can forgive you for this week, lol
I actually got a call from Jimmie the other day....he wants me to change my race standings so it reflects when photo started picking him. He shut up after I told him he's lucky I haven't chosen him yet :P
he actually collected....oh wait, that was Marcos, no idea what happened to Aric.
I think Lori got the cash this time....go Lori!
I've been, instead, driving California in NSR (until the game crashed on me, lol). I suck at qualifying on anything other than a 1.5 mile track and I think NASCAR has it in for me....I had Daytona in the bag until the caution came out, how typical *rolls eyes*
Who do you like for the IRL race, Dave? Scott will be on a roll having won last weekend so I guess he'll be the one everyone is trying to beat.
neither one had a chance Dave.

That was the most boring Busch race to me. None of my faves finished in even the top 15. I don't know what the heck was wrong with Bobby. But David was slow too. So it must have just been the Rensi team.
Dave: I got a jet?? Where?? Nope It doesn't show up in my inventory.
William: In the USA, I consider any thing west of the Mississippi River as the west. Any thing east of the Mississippi River as the far east, midwest, south east, south, deep south (Fla.). Every thing else is Yankie land.
Tez: J J called you eh?? Did you tell him I picked him for Sundays race?? Lets hope he wins this one instead of comming 40th or worse.
I thought I read something here photo said about a contest but he doesn't know anything he said that himself so that can't be right.
And then I seem to vaguely recall Tez talking about some Australian contest put on by Foster's Beer and KangaSports with Marcos Ambrose as a spokesperson regarding writing about the future of Australian V-8's or something.
Man, I am getting delusional. It must be the middle of the night and I must be dreaming.
Cellophane flowers of yellow and green,
Towering over your head.
Look for the girl with the sun in her eyes,
And she's gone.
I think I saw where we have another week to enter the contest I know nothing about. I am sure we will not be hit up with another rash of Newbies writing ignorant posts about the future of NASCAR this week.
i wish you guys would write an entry so that i could say i know at least one of the finalists.
wow photo your mowing them down. you could be looking at a negative score here. lowest 2 race total for sure.

William: I did enter. I have two post: I am a know it all and I dont know nothing. HA HA .. So you know some one that is a know it all and doesn't know nothing in the contest.
Don't worry William. Johnson I fear is going to really mess up my day.
Not to worry guys, Photog is virtually guaranteed an additional 43 pts, due to his stubborn refusal to let go of the 48. (I think that's the first time I've succumbed to NASCAR talk - "the 48" - I need a vacation).
Dave: Thanks for your vote of confidence.. I fear picking Johnson is going to be my down fall no matter what the LOWES cheat sheet says.
Funny story to share. I was in LOWES Friday night to get some lumber for a project. Stopped a floor person and asked if Jimmy Johnson was in today. She didn't know a Jimmie Johnson so she took me to the service desk and asked if they could page a Jimmy Johnson for me. The service desk employee did a page for him.
I told the clerk I would be in lumber picking up what I needed and to send him there. All this time the service desk is paging Jimmie Johnson to lumber.
Got what I needed and turned around and ran into Jimmie Johnson life sized poster being held by a department person laughing his behind off.
Guess LOWES do go out of their way to help customers.
Examined Jimmie's problem via slow mo, Tivo review. Seemed normal, until on my third replay I saw a flash - just before the 48's tire blew up. Check it yourselves, a bright flash right behind the little infield knoll.
I'm not sayin' nothin' about what might have caused the flash, or if it's related to the explosion of Jimmie's right rear tire. I'm just sayin' there was a flash.
Dixon & Ganassi are sure riding a wave right now - very impressive win. Not sure what happened to Wheldon - seemed comfortable in third, and then -poof-!
Dave:
I saw the flash too on the replay.. I thought there was a conspiracy, now I know it.Next week I am NOT going to pick JOHNSON for any thing untill they catch the shooter...
Falcons: No I didn't but quickly left after my selections.. Yes Lowes here seems to have one up in the customer service area and pricing.. Home Depot lacks in both areas here...
wow what an ending to the trifecta. we had a points miscalculation, our regular leader finally fell off a week, and photogr's jj pick turns from spectacular to junk in one turn...(well 2 of those things don't usually happen:) and we have a first time winner.

This was one of those fluke racing wins. Sorta like Scott Pruett or J.P. Montoya doing well in a NASCAR event at Watkins Glen or something.
This was a NASCAR-specialist Trifecta Weekend. Lori is clearly a NASCAR specialist (never mind the fact that she seems to enjoy and know much about a broad range of racing, ... that doesn't fit my hypothesis).
Just wait until next weekend (NO NASCAR - may I suggest Sprint Cars - either the Western Sprinters or the Nationals in Indiana - Silver Crown is off until the 26th ...). Plenty of other choices too ...
JJD; all I can say is....welcome to the real world :P
photo; I am glad that Jimmie is ok....but boy was I laughing when I watched the replay, LOL! I'll pick him next week since you aren't then :P
Seriously though, I thought Jimmie and Martin were very solid picks but there you go *shrugs*
Will; I shudder to think what you have in store for us next week....I'm guessing a go-kart race someplace, lol
And I have finally succumbed to the number of blogs for this contest. I'm only sticking with the people on my 'favourites' list and that's it.
I'm telling you, the easiest way to change the racing is to do what they do in F1; limit the sets of tyres you have per race. I also like that 'powerboost' thing they have in the A1GP too, lol
Congratulatio ns to Dave_in_Indy winning the Great Canadian Trifecta on June 10 2007. His blog "A Partially Able Mind" is a collage of sports info and a must for anyone interested in the Indianapolis 500 or the IRL. Congratulatio ns to JayJayDean, winner of the 2007 MonsterMile Trifecta on June 05, 2007. He has a great blog analyzing NASCAR's points system called JJD's NASCAR and other stuff blog. Congrats need to go out to 14Falcons, the 2007 winner of the Memorial Day weekend Trifecta. Every race fan needs to check out his blog, Kierkegaard's Stages. As for me, i am just another racing fan, from Canada, with opinions like every one else. other than racing i love Dave Matthews Band, playing guitar and all sports in general. favorite drivers include Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, and Dale Jarret. favorite sports teams are Toronto Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, Notre-dame football, Chicago Bears, Syracuse basketball.
