Well let’s start with the wrap from the
weekend that was. JayJayDean continues
to set the bar becoming the first back to back trifecta winner and
the first 3 time winner. JJ had a great
runs in both NASCAR events and managed to get through the crash fest that was
that IRL race at the new Iowa
speedway. JJD’s main competition was
again photogr who managed to get a hit a high note by picking the #2 finisher
in the Nextel Cup race.
So in 5 weeks we have not been able to correctly predict the winner of a
Cup race (albeit we have had 3 first time winners). He picked Jeff
Burton who finished 3rd but Kevin Harvick was who was 2nd was not
eligible being a past road course winner.
When I put together the non-road course winner aspect, I
thought for sure somebody would take Juan but it ended up being too obvious of
a choice.
The last 2 were put there because their picks for the Busch
race were late. I’m glad they didn’t win
or I would have had to impose a real penalty.
Any way they seemed like honest mistakes but those races will not be
considered in their overall average. One
last note, I think if we take those picks into consideration this had to be out
lowest collective score(average) by almost 10 points. Good work folks. Once again I’m pulling down the class average
(it’s just like high school all over again).
Now on to this week where all three major series’ are in
action. And to put a little twist on things and because the French are famous
for their backward way of thinking I have to decided turn the Trifetca upside
down. This week you want to pick THE
WORST FINISHER in each event. That’s
right, who will finish last, so you want to get the highest score. The averages
will be inverted to continue to show true statistics.
The 1st event is the IRL race in Richmond
on Saturday.
The 2nd race is the French Grand Prix on Sunday
morning at 8:00 am ET.
The 3rd and final event is the Nextel Cup Race in
New Hampshire.
So here is your chance to show off how much you really know
about the different series’. It’s easy
to pick the cars that are up front every week, but now you are forced to go top
the bottom of the pack to find the poorest finishers. Or maybe there is a driver you can’t stand
and want to see finish last. Whatever
the case, if you’re the ultimate stopper this Trifecta is for you.
something seems fishy with those averages. i will have to look into my numbers again. also same rules apply to picking drivers already chosen. also picks are due before qualifying for the F1 race (8:00amET Saturday)
IRL - Mika Duno
F1 - Adrian Sutil
Cup - Bill Elliot
I've gone with Bill purely for the fact that he's got provisionals so he'll qualify (so I'm guessing you want us to pick from the 43 that make the race)....and for whatever reason, the Wood Brothers car seems to like sliding back during the race.
The Trifecta TAB is not taking bets for photo picking Johnson this weekend :P
Well this is a twist.. Formula 1 Scott Speed is he
in yet??
INDY Kosuke Matsuura HaSo
Papa San..
Cup Kevin Lepage
Funny Tez: I thought about it but Johnson will win this weekend according to the Lowes cheat sheet..
Hey Tez here is a insider tip.. Derick Cope. he always seems to be able to qualify but when the green flag drops in the race he pulls into the garage for the day..
Wait aminute.. I think I am going to chage my picks
Just to make the Trifecta Standings a little more interesting, ... try picking a high performing team/driver you think will crash-out early in one of the races. Or step the risk/reward equation up even higher and do it for all three races. If you hit on this pick - you'll score pretty well points wise, but incredibly well prestige wise (vs. those of us going with the safer low performer picks - these guys will likely not surprise us with a top three or even a top 10 finish).
Come on ... this is getting hopeless. (Photog, you too, O.K.?)
Hmmm. Will I accept Dave's challenge? Of course I will.
F1 - Lewis Hamilton
Seven out of seven on the podium...he can't keep that up, right? The McLarens have also avoided mechanical failure all season. They have to hit a bad patch at some point.
IRL - Tony Kanaan
Has two straight DNF-accidents at Richmond. Sorry, TK.
Cup - Carl Edwards
Five starts at Loudon. One top-10 finish. No DNFs, though, as his worst career Loudon finish is 20th.
There you go. I could legitimately end up with three points this week.
wow jj. if you win this weeks trifecta i may have to switch to the group of people who believe that the races are rigged. and i can tell you who the pupet master is too. those are bold predictions.
William: That is exactly my point.. If they don't get in, I don't get points so I could easily come in first as there are no points for them finishing higher..
Hey William:: Dale Jarrett did not qualify.. Can I change my driver to one that qualified>?? Kevin Lepage is my new Pick if that is OK.. Just wouldn't feel right to go with Jarrett and he is not in the race..
HotfootLori: its great to have you on board. I try to do this every week and your more than welcome to join in on the fun. in fact bring your friends along too.
photogr: no problem to change your pick. picks are not due until the 8:00 tomorrow morning (EST), i am surprised though your not taken jimmie.
HOT FOOT: JJ IS EASY TO BEAT.. JUST HAVE TO BLOCK HIM.OR IN THIS CASE THIS WEEK END JUST HOPE HIS PICKS ALL WIN WHICH I THNK THEY HAVE A GOOD CHANCE........
slshusker. those are not negatives. it just means that there score wasn't taken into consideration because of problems they had with their picks. i didn't want to disqualify them entirely but to be an official trifecta winner you must abide by the rules.
High risk, low reward picks - - that's rolling the dice when in the lead. Although just hitting on one, while not producing huge dividends in trifecta standings, will produce shock and awe here on this blog.
Even if you crash and burn in the standings, ... RESPECT (along with a quiet wish for the crash & burn thing).

good morning everyone. hope you enjoy today and tomorrow's action. here are my picks
IRL: Sara Fisher
F1: David Coulthard
NextelCup: Robby Gordon
jj. the thing about your hamilton pick. how much car trouble have we seen this with the top6. not much i'd say other than kubica's wild ride in montreal. still with the other 2 anything can happen.
falco. dont get all torn up inside. think about it this way if the 83 wasn't too low chad would be going home. it's already a win for him even if he has trouble. i don't wish ill on anyone but some one does have to finish last. its a part of racing. don't expect this often. just thought it would be a nice way to break jj's strangle hold on the top stop. lol.

I figure JJD will be focused on the first three turns in France. Fairly high speed, but not sharp affairs - could see some of the fast cars knock each other out right there. Will be interesting if it's Hamilton & Alonso - Alonso gave way in Indy, wonder if his testosterone levels will allow him to give way again if it comes to that in France. Qualifying is already a great event in F1 - should be even more interesting; just to see who will be positioned near Hamilton (and who might be JJD's knight in shining armor - the guy who punts Lewis on Sunday morning). If Hamilton is in the lead after turn three, ... well - it's likely over. But we'll see how he qualifies.
I heard on TV during qualifying that Chaffin missed the race. Then I saw him listed 43rd on NASCAR.com last night. I was thinking the TV coverage must have made a mistake and that the 49 got in on owners points. But the 83 was low and failed inspection huh? That darn Hendrick....uh...nevermind.
wow that race was over quick. i thought i'd sit down and catch the last of it after i put my son to sleep and it was on to the victory lane celebration already.
Very interesting.. Crikey .. Falcons is ahead of me..Was it me or was this race won in the first few laps...Dario led 214 laps?? Hornish had a bad day..
Buddy Rice deserves a MAJOR shout-out for finishing fifth in that #### Dreyer & Reinbold-car. Danica also ran really well (for her, at Richmond) and finished sixth.

Feel free to discuss the F1. There is no replay I can watch. Or I missed it earlier one.
Oh well, son and I caught eight bullhead cat and one bluegill and moved them to our favorite pond that we are stocking but do not fish. It aught to make one heck of a neighborhood fishing hole for someone elses kids one day.
I showed great "stopper" versatility today. Green finished 6th? Holy @#%! And I was doing so well up to then ... I'm still holding out hope that NASCAR will find that Green's crew had illegal deer whistles on his car (9mm wider than the template for Cup cars allows) & DQ him.
Ah well, fun approach to this weekend's trifecta. Should act like a NASCAR debris caution in terms of reigning in JJD who was threatening to lap the field (except for Photog ... maybe next week, eh?).
JJD deserves bonus negative points for being such a good sport this weekend.

In retrospect, I should've just gambled on the NASCAR race. The F1 and IRL races were way easy to pick the back part of the field, and I couldn't have won even if I'd picked Bowyer/Trulli/Hornish. Ah well.
Congratulatio ns to Dave_in_Indy winning the Great Canadian Trifecta on June 10 2007. His blog "A Partially Able Mind" is a collage of sports info and a must for anyone interested in the Indianapolis 500 or the IRL. Congratulatio ns to JayJayDean, winner of the 2007 MonsterMile Trifecta on June 05, 2007. He has a great blog analyzing NASCAR's points system called JJD's NASCAR and other stuff blog. Congrats need to go out to 14Falcons, the 2007 winner of the Memorial Day weekend Trifecta. Every race fan needs to check out his blog, Kierkegaard's Stages. As for me, i am just another racing fan, from Canada, with opinions like every one else. other than racing i love Dave Matthews Band, playing guitar and all sports in general. favorite drivers include Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, and Dale Jarret. favorite sports teams are Toronto Raptors, Montreal Canadiens, Notre-dame football, Chicago Bears, Syracuse basketball.
