This week is the Fathers Day Trifecta. I have a little Dad story I wanted to share
first. Last weekend my family and I
attended a car show/cruise and over in the corner was a local race car on
display. It caught my 2 and a half year
old boy’s eye and we headed over to have a closer look at it. It was red so of course my son says “Kasey
Kane car”. The guys looking after it
laughed and ask my son if he would like to get in. At first he was timid but after we circled
the car a couple of times he had to get in.
I was such a proud Dad when he was making the engine noises. Then he
stops and says to me “fix the tire Daddy”.
So after dad completed a pit stop (complete with air gun sound effects)
he was on his way and then he yells out to his Mom “need my checkered flag”
(which we had just purchased earlier that evening). It was so cute everyone that was around
laughed and the guys looking after it showed him how use his flag to pose for
his victory lane photo. I couldn’t get
the smile off my face for the rest of the day.
Anyway this weeks Trifecta will start with the Busch race at
Kentucky. The only difference is that choice will be
limited to non-Nextel Cup regulars. The
rule for this is any driver that has started more than half of the Cup races to
date this year will be excluded. Your
scoring for this race will also be different from the actual results as the
Busch regulars will be placed against each other and the Cup regulars will be disregarded.
Second on the card will be the USGP from Indy. Kubica has been replaced this week, doctor’s
orders, but says he feels 100%. Again it
is a miracle.
Third is the Nextel Cup race from Michigan.
The same rules apply as last week. You will be penalized for picking cars that
have already been taken. You will also
be penalized for picking late. Picks are
due before F1 qualifiying, 1:00pm ET
Saturday. But if your Busch pick doesn’t
make the race you will be granted a do-over at the cost of 3 points. (I’m not sure when Busch qualifying is.)
F1 - Nic....hmm, both guys who start with those 3 letters are driving well. I shall roll the dice and go with the 'o', not the 'k'; Nico Rosberg, go you good thing!
Cup - Ryan Newman
photo; just for nicking my man, Marcos, I shall now enjoy a Coke Zero out of spite, lol
What can I say??? I pick one of the Hendrick Duo and they bomb.. So..Seriously. Jeff does have a chance to win this race if he doesn't hit any thing, keeps his brakes, changes his tires, doesn't run over mystery debris and doesn't run out of gas. Other than that, it is smooth sailing unless I jinxed him..
you know that if all that goes to plan, any of the drivers can win, lol
but still, you shall need to prove your worth if you are to join the elite group of 'The Stoppers'. We have expanded our range from just having the abillity to stop message threads by just thinking about posting to include sports results :P
I'm CEO based on past experience....take last week for example when I managed to pick one of only two drivers to be DQ'd, so there's the benchmark!
I'm not sure it's a transferable gift, but just in case:
Would you please pick Mit Romney (George W. Bush II) to win the Republican nomination for U.S. President? And, if you'd be so kind, please also consider picking Hillary Clinton (isn't our talent pool a little deeper than the Bush and Clinton families?) for the Democratic nomination.
I'm still working on making it work in politics, Dave...sorry about that! But if there's anyone you want me to barrack for in next years Euro 2008 champs, I can do that for you, lol
Tez: HUH?? The elite group of Stoppers?? Did any one see the Cup qualifying??? Wo picked Stewart ( in 43rd)?? Who got the pole ( Yeley)?? Where is Gordon( 4th I think)?? How about Jimmie( 2nd by .01)? Looks like some of the TOYOTAs came alive...
yeah, I started it up over on IMDb (a movie site) after finding out that I was the last post in about 90% of the threads I wrote a message on since I joined it in 2003, lol
and nope, no Cup qualy for me....and sopcast didn't help either unfortunately (a #### too since Falcons was kind enough to give me a link to that).
O.K., dad story first. Not as good as wills though.
Son comes home after going out with his mom to take stuff to a friends that we are selling at a yard sale. He cleaned the old mower up and he can have the money it brings. He is growing up.
They also went to see Shrek 3.
Anyway, he comes down to the old mancave about 9:00 p.m. Central and immediately asks if there is anything I can do to help his toothache. It's good to be a dad and be able to offer a potential solution. He has never taken an aspirin so I had an answer.
Then while I am gone he starts watching the Cardinals game I am watching and actually takes an interest in the inning they are in while playing the A's. We may get to share baseball one of these days afterall.
Then he gives away that they also went to Theisen's to buy me some stuff for Father's day. Hummingbird Fish Finder? He says other stuff. Has he learned to lie when he needs to? I hope so actually.
Next thing you know he has crashed out on the bed.
Sometimes the simple things are the best things.
F1: Fisichella
Cup: Kenseth
Busch: Mike Wallace

Thanks. Funny thing is the boy was on a trip to Branson with his mom and they went to Bass Pro and he showed mom a reasonably priced finder to get me. But she didn't get it because she thought it might not be the kind I wanted. Hell, anything beats nothing. I circled one (and a few other things)in a Theisen's flyer that came to the house earlier this week and gave it to her. Do you think I might have guilted her into it?
A fish finder would be an excellent gift if you fish. It will not work on fishing out lead stories on the blogs.
You also have to give the wife enough money to buy it too in a discreet manner and hope she doesn't go balistic with the money at Blomingdales for herself.
So, you live near Branson eh? Small world. I have a hospital in that town trying to get me to come and work for them. I've been there twice now visiting - the new convention center, higher end mall, and hotels are a nice change from "the strip".
Housing is more expensive than I thought, and the hospital needs a lot of work (although is already quite a bit better in terms of quality of outcomes than the larger Springfield hospitals to the north - just need to convince the populace of that). Any thoughts on life in that area of the world?
by my count there are 6 cup regulars in the busch race from kentucky so your dirver will be given a position based on 37 spots disregarding dave blaney, david ragan, david reutimann, david stremme, carl edwards and jj yeley. if i missed someone please let me know.
I live in Iowa. The family went on a trip to Branson. I do not travel well with others. So we as a family understand that and they go on their own sometimes. I go when I think I can handle it.
I have lived five years in Kansas City and four in St. Louis though. I love Missouri. I think living in Branson would be cool. It is awesome fishing territory.
But you may miss your racing action. Indy must be way cool for a racing fan.
Will; do know that you picked 3 minutes late, lol. Oh and well done on your boys putting in a great effort in the Union game last night against NZ (I even wrote a special blog for it!)....loudest cheer all night in the bar was when you guys scored that try, lol
Hey Falcons, what's the job market like over there for us CE's?
And what was with the Stewart/Gilliland collision? I've only read a couple things on it and it seems that Tony just ran into the back of him instead of passing on the inside. Ahh so David didn't stick a hand out the window....hmm, fair enough then with Tony going off his nut about it I guess.
I also believe that Biffle is racing in Kentucky...so there's another one gone.
O.K. - looking good so far. Regan Smith is doing well in the Busch race (2nd at this time, behind Cup regular Carl Edwards), Hamilton is on the pole at Indy, and JJ qualified 2nd at Michigan.
It helps to pick early, and get the top guys - eh?
tez- great catch on the bif. i just scanned the lineup quickly before. so that makes the feild a total of 36 for you following the percentages. also that guy(i have no clue who it was for canada) was only the fourth canadian to score a try against the NZ. it was a nice run back too, it made the highlight reel here. of course the score got buried somewhere. but on we go
UNofficial standings so far:
Tezgm99-----------3
williamwilman-----7
photogr-----------8
JayJayDean--------10
Dave_in_Indy------13
14Falcons---------19
volfan69----------29(volfan has gotta be up for the best "stopper" award. i thought this was a soild pick.)
I have to say again F1 qualifying is the most entertaining thing in motorsports right now. Also I think I am going to my dads place tomorrow and don't know how well i will be able to update so keep track of your drivers.

Only the 4th eh....that was the coolest moment of the game when Mike got that pass. I was cheering for him all the way on his run and at first people were looking at me funny before realising what I was doing (no one was really watching the game up to then as everyone thought Canada was going to be canon fodder) and did the same thing, lol
And I see that only Falcons and myself have gone against a Chevy Cup driver....surely their winning streak of 12 races will come to an end this time.
I think the Leicht-Coleman 1-2 finish means we are ALL a bunch of coolers.
AND, it's worth point out that Leicht is one of the eight TRUE "Busch guys" this year, having run all of the Busch races and no Cup races. Pretty cool for his team.
It's good. I am just not ready to relocate at this time and I have had 11 jobs in 22 years. That is why I am probably changing careers. I am not cut out fot the exactness of engineering and the behavior required to succeed in the arena. I am probably going into sales where I can talk talk talk talk talk talk talk.
I'm gonna need that Ford win badly too. I am thirteen points behind you. But I am probably sunk with Fisichella anyway.

I hate dealing with residents and project managmement so I think I shall remain in the technical side of things me thinks. I got a reply from the Canadian Immigration on Friday...they got my application for permanent residency and won't be able to process it for 36 months due to the backlog...I nearly fainted when I read that!
Ahh well, just have to rely on that or find a job since that'll cut the time down and stuff like that. I want the Vancouver area so that is cutting my options down I suppose.
And who cares about Fisi, Nico starts from 14th for Merlin's sake (uh, excuse the language there...I'm a Harry Potter nut, my apologies to all)! He looked real good in practice though so hopefully he can run well in the race.
Word is Fisi is heavy on fuel and will run a long first segment. Ahh. We will have to see how this works out. I may be in the points with him after all.
