Dave_in_Indy upsets the Canadian Trifecta
Jun 12, 2007 | 8:00PM | report this

Dave_in_Indy comes up with the right combination for a controversial win in the Great Canadian Trifecta. The initial results of the Grand Prix showed Tezgm99’s pick Massa finishing in 12th place but because of the disqualification he landed in 21st. Trifecta officials have decided to standby the F1 ruling, giving the win to Dave_in_Indy by the smallest margin to date.

Dave had a rough go of it in the first two races on the schedule and found him self in last place in the tightest field of contestants yet. Only 17 points separated all 6 who were led by photogr (always a strong runner in the first 2) and williamwilman (surprisingly enough).

The final race, the rain shortened Nextel cup Pocono event, coupled with the harsh reality that is the F1 rules proved to be what Dave would need to take this weeks Trifecta. Congratulations goes out to Dave_in_Indy who writes a blog called “A Partially Able Mind”. It is a collage of interesting takes on the sports he enjoys including open wheel racing. His articles leading up to the Indianapolis 500 were insightful.

Your final results are

Dave_in_Indy--------------27

JayJayDean-----------------28

Tezgm99--------------------28 (a tough ruling by the judges)

14Falcons-------------------37

williamwilman-------------40

photogr----------------------47

With 36 cars on the lead lap JayJayDean edges out Tezgm99 for second spot (just to rub salt in the wounds). williamwilman was the closest with 32.

I would like to tie up a few loose ends. First of all, “your welcome” to everyone who keeps saying “thank you” for running this little pool. I just wanted to let you know I enjoy it as much as you all do.

Second Canadiens is spelled that way because they are located in the province Quebec which is French speaking and spelling.

Lastly the points system. Now I wanted to devise something fair for all and didn’t require perfect attendance. Not all races have the same number of cars so I am going to give each player a percentage based on the place cars finished in their respective races. I don’t want to make it too confusing (it may be too late for that).

So here are the standings after 3 weeks

JayJayDean -----27.44

14Falcons-------29.43

photogr-----------29.64

Tezgm99--------30.93

IowaGirl---------35.68

Dave_in_Indy—44.86

williamwilman-46.61

volfan69--------62.34

SouthernCindi-67.55

I will be posting the Fathers day Trifecta at about 10:00pm ET on Thursday. Hopefully it doesn’t get to buried in all the Jr. talk.

meh, nothing much can be done about it....except to clip Felipe (and Giancarlo) around the ears for being colourblind, lol

Lewis will probably make it 2 in a row this weekend....Fred goes rubbish at Indy for some reason and Ferrari seem more intent to focus on the whole 'Michael is here' thing instead of the race itself.

Hey. this sound good for the combo so far. I thought I shot my self in the foot posting Johnson for a win the last two weeks.. Yep I still got a chance.. What are the races for this week William?? Thanks for making this interesting...

WE have to give Tez a penalty.. He is a day ahead of us so he gets to see who wins before we do..( Just kidding)..

nuh uh, it should be the other way around; I should be rewarded for having to get up so early to see the races :P

I wondered about the weighting towards NASCAR. But I felt that since most people here know it better that it was fair enough. However, I like your weighting too.

Woo hoo! The points race is on. All I can say is Jay Jay ain't close to being my grandmother. ;)

Last weekend was a toss-up, with all of the odd finishes. Only the F1 race was a straight-up win. Wish I hadn't missed the second weekend of the trifecta ... might be in the hunt.

thanks again guys for the response.

jjd you can have him again this weekend. they say he could be going again. that is unreal. i watch that crash again and am just floored. i've had more injury than a headache and sprained ankle when i wake up in the morning.

Dave_in_Indy were you suprised that you were claimed the victor? also i wanted you to know i didn't include your schuey pick from memorial day weekend in your average. your still in the hunt don't give up.

falco a cup or busch win is the best way to up your average, infact a second is almost equal to a F1 win and more than the win in irl's texas race. but would you believe for how "predictable" the cup races are our collective best finish is 4th. thats with a total of 19 different picks over 3 races.

Tez i can't imagine the crazy sched you would have to keep to see races. what time is the f1 race on when they are in europe?

photogr you gotta take it easy on tez. he was dealt a serios blow with his first trifecta title being striped

Europe races are on midnight, Sunday for me, william.

We all await with fainted breath what crazy ideas you do for this weekend too; penalties last time for picking the same driver (which no one did in the end, lol)

And my morale got a big boost last night after my boys retained the State of Origin title for another year; QUEENSLANDER! :P

i imagine the gp will be on the card as well as the cup race(as always) still trying to decide on the last one. any ideas? what would be "fatherly"? probably the busch race in kentucky. we'll see. i have a good idea for the french gp weekend already so we will be going for a little while here hopefully.
europe's races start at 7:00 am here usually. but that is sunday morning. you have to stay up till what like 3:00am and then go to work, eh

Nah, I just tape the F1, get up to reset the tape for NASCAR then watch them when I get home. So late Monday nights for me instead.

The best part is that all I have to avoid is the F1 result....no radio stations do NASCAR as it's seen very much as a minority sport here. I'm not complaining since I don't have to worry about them ruining the results for me, lol
