If I would be the NFL Commish.....
Aug 07, 2006 | 10:19PM | report this

What an opportunity to be able to make the neccessary changes.  I am sorry Tags did a decent job, but I think he is a true blue democrat with a liberal sense of the word sports.  Lets baby this sport and make it a waste of time.  I can remember the days when Singletary and the bears defense would demolish the packers in Greenbay and I would just sit there amazed at the unbelievable display of scary tactics of yesteryear.  But since Tags took over he really did a great job managing the NFL, but he allowed the owners take control of the rules and he allowed the NFL to become a pansy sport and not allow the tackling the people pay $70 for a ticket that want to see.  Then we cant see our players dance and have fun when the do a great play.  I mean someof the tactics like peeing on the goal post and mooning the fans and such is a little much, but what the hell is the problem with a dance in the end zone and the ability to celebrate a touchdown when they want to......its become a pansy time for football...and  maybe Goodall or whom ever takes over the job, will allow some of the game come back to how it would be from years ago.

Some other changes I will like to see are.....

  • If a football team wants to move, the city that gets that team must keep the old name and also will need to host that team for no less the 20 years.  Hmmmm would it be funny to see the Pasedena Vikings.   Los Angeles Redskins.   Interesting huh?
  • The salary cap needs to be followed to the tee and if a team fails to keep the salary under the camp by at least one penny, the team automatically loses its next first round draft pick and the team with the best salary cap management will recieve that teams pick as a bonus and a prize for doing so.
  • If a team fails to compete for a winning franchise for more the 5 years is stripped of its franchise rights and is disolved.
  • I would also like to ensure that football would survive by allowing more teams into the league like in Las Vegas, Portland, Pasadena, Nashville, Milwaukee.  More teams makes better competition.

have fun and see you on the other side.

Wow.....shocked and dimayed again!

I think in one of my previous posts that I made a comment that my job takes me from place to place and city to city and area to area, but in my travels I have very little time to read, but recently I recieved a care package back from home at my current location and there is all of the sports magazines that I subscribed to.  But to my dismay, I now have ESPN the Magazine.  WTF, I am saying in my head and I cant really stand that magazine as the magazine is just as biased at the network.

I then call my wife which unfortunatly i forgot the time difference of 9 hours and I woke her up in the middle of her favorite manly dream of Fabio taking control of her or some stuff lie that, at about 3am and started to ask her what happened.

She said that she got a letter or I got a letter that she read and it said that my beloved Football digest is no more.  It has ceased to exist and that I was now the proud owner of a 5 year subscription for ESPN the maagzine.   ARRRRG!!!!

Ok, so the winning minds that decided the fate of the magazine also decided the fate of my reading too.  I dont think its fair for me to be subjected to the stupidity of a magazine that is run by a biased New York Yankee loving system of commentary.

So after allowing my wife to go back to her dreams, I opened up my first issue that I have recieved unwillingly. I was sorely unhappy that this has happened.  Yes I am starting to become a baseball fan, but I am more of a football fan, and I dont want to see #### about the world cup, golf and womens basketball, let alone mens basketball either.   I want my football.  A MANS SPORT!!!

So now I sit here with a stack of ESPN magazines that have now become great fire starters in my fireplace and I am not getting the desired need and diet of football.

I paid for a 3 year subscription of Football digest and get a bonus after they cease to exist of 5 years of that.  Yikes......i feel like an Enron employee!

This & That 2

I have to come to a conclusion and this is more then just a whim in my book, that soccer and the world cup is a waste of time.

Why do I say this? Well....you have a bunch of guys.....that have no idea of sports play and they go about kicking a ball around and this ball is #### and they have to run around and kick this ball over and over.

But people scream at me and say that football isnt a sport and that football isnt all that....and in soccer, they get hurt more. Sure they do....put some protective gear on and then lets play a game.

Well....as I am now writing from the high sierra's of California.....I sit and watch the wanna be fishermen act like they have the greatest boats that could find every fish, but I watch my staff that are working hard here taking in the calls of SOS from these guys who really didnt realize that 7000 feet elevation will hamper many engines.

Oh well...on other aspects, the All star game is upon us and I am looking forward to see Carlos Lee from the brewers show how good he and the brewers are going to be.

Good luck to alll and good all a good day!

This and That.......
Jun 07, 2006 | 3:15PM | report this

In my young 36 years on this planet, I have pretty much hated baseball for about half of that.  I think it stems back from the days that I wanted to play and this arrogant coach decided that my butt was too big to play on his team.   But then the MLB strike a few years back also help cinch my hatred for this sport.

But over the months I have become a person who is actually looking at the MLB scores just to see the Milwaukee Brewers have done.  No matter that they just had an 8 game skid, but the fact that they are winning with a young core group of kids that have been home grown through the minor league system.  Making me believe that the damn yankees.....err the NY Yankees cant just buy themselves championship over and over.

My hatred of Baseball really subsided when just a month ago, my son came to me and asked if he could play baseball.

WHAT!  BASEBALL.....YOU TRADER, I thought to myself.  But after talking to my wife, she decided it was a good idea for him to play baseball......and for me to be his coach!  I hate baseball!

So hundred bucks later he is practicing with his team and he isnt bad...and to watch baseball on sandlot beginnings again is showing me why this game is America's Pasttime.

Wow what a feeling.  My little boy in his Blue T-shirt with the club logo on it and his Texas Rangers cap on his head and baseball pants.  His cleats are digging into the dirt and waiting for the pitcher to stop daydreaming.

Here is the pitch....Ball......another pitch come flying by and strike is called.  Ok 1 and 1 isnt bad.   Two more balls coming flying by and its 3 -1 and a walk is in sight.

The next pitch is ready and is thrown...and ouch.....my boy goes down......hit by a pitch.....oh thats gonna leave a mark.

As an assistant coach....I take a few steps towards him and the coach hold me back.

My boy gets up to his knees and look back at me and with tears in his eyes he rubs his now throbbing butt as a fast ball collided with his left cheek.

As a dad I want to go and pick him up and I think my boy is waiting for me to come and do that also, but the coach was right to hold me back.

Then I hear......the coach clapping....way to go....Take your base....Run it off.....your ok!

Hell no he isnt ok, he is hurting, and thats my boy.  But there he goes....gets up to his feet and trots down to first base giving the pitcher the evil eye.

God I lve baseball.....and I like my Texas Rangers of Bakersfield California!

Just leave finally!
May 29, 2006 | 1:07PM | report this

So there I was watching a hit heard around the world!  Finally the mockery of baseball is over.  Let’s allow Barry to have his day and to think how many times Babe is rolling in his grave over this travesty of baseball justice.

Now I am not a major fan of Baseball but when I see this junk go on and on for months, its time to speak up as a sports fan and just vent.

 Go AWAY BONDS…..its over.

In fact after watching the hit, I noticed something a little strange.  I went back into my baseball card collection that was after realizing that I had enough dust on it to create a dirty bomb, I took out a few cards and rifled through them and found me a bonds card from three years ago.

I guess when you’re in SA, that’s Steroids Anonymous for you non recovering people, you really can’t cheat. He is getting smaller and I can see a difference.  I guess when you’re off the juice, you really do suffer a major breakdown of your tissue.  I would assume that Bonds is losing his brain cells as much as his muscle tissues. Not to mention, instead of looking bald, why not shave yourself bald…to hide even more of your problems.

But I wonder about the 12 step program for steroidal sports stars and how effective it may be.

 12)   Have a spiritual awakening.  I bet he has since he is off the juice and actually realizing that he isn’t that good.

11)    Praying for Knowledge.  He has prayed for a lot and all he gets is bashed.  I knew there was a god!

10)    Take your own personal inventory.  If Bonds has any ethical value in his body, then he would be able to handle the inventory thing!

9)        Make amend with people.  That would be a trip to see Bonds in confession. I  sorry….so…so…sorry…..

8)        Make a list of people we harmed.  When did Santa become black?  He checking it twice to see who is naughty or nice…..and he can’t find his own name on his list.

7)        Bow down and ask for forgiveness.  Again confessing to something he is guilty of and won’t admit.  Another trip I would love to see.

6)        Remove the defect of my character.  Unfortunately Bonds is so full of defect that when we were done removing them, we would have a pile of sludge.

5)        Admit you’re wrong.  See #7 and #9.

4)         Make a search for our moral inventory.  See #10.

3)        Turn over a new leaf in the name of God.   Ok…..then retire now Bonds and this would be one of several ways to start that process.

2)        Believe in a higher power.  Unless he thinks that Aaron is that higher power, then Bonds is lost.

1)        Admit that you are powerless over Steroids.  He won’t admit it, but he sure feels it.

First and foremost, I must apologize to Alcoholics Anonymous for blatantly using their 12 step process as a joke.

I have a recovering family member and I know it’s hard.   I watch him struggle each and every day.

Finally to finish with Bonds and my tirade.  Retire and allow the real baseball players do their thing and not cheat.   Get out of baseball and our lives.  But I will see an asterisk next to your name for eternity for your blind cheating and use of a known controlled substance to make your performance better.

Hero's Lost..............
May 27, 2006 | 11:33PM | report this

This world is suppose to be full of honorable men and hero’s that kids look up to, but in today’s day and age, how do we when the rampant availability to drugs are around for our hero’s to use and abuse.

Barry Bonds….whether he is guilty or not, the looks do not deceive the people who remember bonds in Pittsburgh when he was 150 pound soaking wet and within a few years in San Fran, he is a monster.  Belting homeruns like catching fish in a salmon run.  He has become a distraction to his team and to some of his fans, and to many observers, he is an embarrassment to sports.  I mean you think of Mark McGwire as a god when it came to baseball, but it seemed to most that he was taking legal supplements, but with Bonds, his supplier was busted.  Hmm….Mr. Bonds, you’re a loser in my eyes and the record that now holds your name need to have a little mark next to them so that all can see that you are not the best and your achievement was helped but an outside dealer.

Now baseball seems to be so oblivious to the fact that this Bonds problem has occurred and that it’s taken them, what 3 years to uncover this problem, but it took baseball only months to go after a true baseball player in betting Pete Rose.  Though Pete was guilty, he was never deserved for a ban like he got.

Speaking of loser hero’s, Rickey Williams.  Ganja boy couldn’t handle the sobriety needed to keep him to be a star in the NFL.  Not For Long is what you got here in the NFL.  It’s too bad to see how you think the wacky weed isn’t a problem for you, but you are one of the strangest people I have ever heard speak.   Not that your ability to speak was all the good in the first place, but your belief in the weed that makes you sing is really a sub par benefit for you!  Good luck in the CFL and good riddance.

In the 80’s, there was a song from some gal and it was sung with the line…. “Where have all the good men gone….”  The song was Holding Out for a Hero and I am still waiting.  Not necessarily the whole man thing, but I am still waiting for another hero, and so is my son.

The world of sports is very disappointing, and it doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.  But just maybe, we will see someone again.  Someone with the talent on the field and off also.  The kind of off field that makes us proud to be a sports fan.  The kinds that make us wonder why we love sports and why we really love that player.  Not the kind that lives on party boats with hookers or steroid freaks or weed smokers for the ages.

I wonder if cloning is legal yet.  If so, lets start bring back the men that make sports an honorable thing to be a part of!  I’m holding out for my hero.

Post Draft Thoughts
May 09, 2006 | 4:51PM | report this

1.  I thought Dennis Green was smart.  I thought he understood what football to win meant.  Matt Leinart isnt a winning situation.  Matt will fail because he is limited to the basics and he has nothing that will protect him or help him when he is in the heat of things.  Sure James will help out their running game, but its not going to make them great.

2.  Umm...Ferguson over Bush.  Ferguson is a great player but to leave Reggie alone and allow the Saints to pick him up.   I am not sure.  I know Houston has Dominick, but he is run down and now broken.  Hmm..is Houston the 21st century version of the Buccaneers?

3.  Please dont take me wrong here and I am not trying to be racist even though my next comment may seem so, but what is up with Tennessee and the African American quaterback problem they have.   Steve McNair failed, how is Young going to do any better in a #### state.

4. Please forgive me again, who is Ernie Sims?

5. Thank you for AJ HAWK.  Whew.  I was sorely worried that another bulky Tight End was making his way to Green Bay.   AJ Hawk.....a Ray Nitske clone at least in looks will fit the frozen tundra well.

6.  Speaking of Tight Ends.  Vernon Davis even though as a Packer fan I didnt want him, he is a good player and the 49ers will have a great TE for years to come.

7.  Santonio Holmes.  Wow what a way to drop....almost like Aaron Rodgers from last year.   Watch out for this guy.  I think he is gonna rock.

The draft was a decent one.  Watching most of the first round and much of the final three rounds I watched as many players get drafted and watched how good and how bad they really are.  Listening to those guys talking about a players weakness is like paying attention to the movie listings and their reviews.

I am excited.  I cant wait for the start of the 2006 season!

Lets Move on!
Apr 25, 2006 | 9:09PM | report this

Kind of interesting, that as I sit here day after day, I have memories that fill my brain of the good old days of Packer football.  Now granted the Packers really choked for nearly two decades before the Holmgren and Favre area came to fruition.

But I see that, with the insanity of how a sports team can make a fan go nuts when they are making stupid calls or decide to run on a 3rd and 9 at the 6 yard line, I still think no matter what, the team you root for, they will always be there for you to do so.  But unfortunately, how strong will they be or in what city?

I can remember way back when, old Lynn Dickey was getting pummeled on the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field even if it was 80 degrees in Green bay with a light east wind.

I remember the days of Bart Starr running around the sidelines yelling at Dickey especially when a pass went haywire or the opportunity presented itself to the defense of an interception.

But then came along the Majik!  You can never forget the Majik Man.  He changed Packer football.  Well so did Lindy Infante, but hey, where would we be now if Barry Sanders was playing for the Packers instead of Detroit. Anyways, we won’t talk anymore of that.

So then Ron Wolf comes on board and a disgraced board of directors were ushered out of town and leaving on the corporate jet plane with bodyguards or at least the steroidal carcass of Tony Mandarich with them and we saw the demise of Dickey and then we watched Majik crumble before our eyes and then come back to crumble again.  Then it was true beauty and sorcery.  Brett Favre came to Green Bay and lit up our lives and made Green Bay come alive again.

The guy with the funny name is playing is what I would here from my dad, when I was in the kitchen getting a soda.  So I came running in to see him really work his magic and then bam…..an interception.  Then TV cameras would pan to Mike Holmgren who was doubled over in a stroke like stance of pain!

Now we fast forward some 15 years, two super bowl runs and one Lombardi Trophy later, I wait to hear if Favre is coming back to Green Bay.  How dare you make us wait for your decision!  If your not coming back, then don’t.  Retire.  Don’t make us wait for you to make a decision.  Why should we have to sit on pins and needles to wait to hear if you’re going to grace us with your presence?  Thanks for everything Favre, but why do we have to wait for you!  Get lost.  Go coach some small school in Kiln and stop wasting our time!

What?  Uh huh!  Who? No way!

Dude, Thanks Brett …..Bout damn time you come back!  The Packers really need you and so do your fans!

My dream Casting job!
Jan 17, 2006 | 11:10AM | report this

Now that I have calmed down from a few minutes ago, I am wondering....was Ted Thompson hiring the cheapest coach available.  Cheapest also means losing!  My ideal list of what the Pack should looked like in 2006.

Head Coach                                Steve Mariucci(talk about knowing Favre)

DEF Coordinator                         Mike Singletary or keep Jim Bates(both instinctive have a   mean ability to win!)

OFF Coordinator                          Sean Payton(to get out underneath fat #### parcells shadow)

Now as we saw this year.....The packers were devastated this year by injuries and one person that wasnt affected by injuries was Favre.  WHY?  He busted his #### keeping in the best physical shape possible at his age.   So whether farve come back or not.  We need Off line help so that Samkon Gado will beat out Ahman Green for the starting nod.  Then a great FS/SS that is 6' tall or better.   5' 9"ers cant compete!

Sorry to get all reigious on your ####, but GOD ALMIGHTY  STRIKE DOWN McCARTHY and his communist regime!!!!

How about them packers!
Jan 17, 2006 | 10:55AM | report this

Ok, this being my first time even trying to write one of these I am just going to be a bold as I possibly can!

Who the F&%K is Mike McCarthy!  GM Ted Thompson must be smoking the weed with this pick.  Or is he pulling a Ron Wolf and hiring a lackey like he did with Ray Rhodes.  Jim Bates is twice the man this McCarthy guy will be and who are these assistants that he has hired so far!  JUNK!  No background and no talent.  Hell McCarthy just orchestrated the great debacle in 49er land of what 2 - 14....and this deserves himself a coaching job!

Jim bates, Mooch, Sean Payton...you name it.  All positive winning backgrounds and we get this guy!

Now with Jim Bates going to be hired for the NY Jets job under Mangini, there defense will rock and ours....well...I heard that Ray Rhodes is looking for a job!

I must say with the Packers season over only thre weeks, its been quite disappointing so far!   BRETT FAVRE!!!  Come back and save my mental breakdown that I will have under this #### poor leadership!
