Stupid Statistics
Apr 15, 2008 | 4:18AM | report this
Ok who hasn't been sitting on the couch with your beverage and junk food of choice getting ready to watch a game only to hear the following...."When the temperature is less than 65 degrees by the start of the game the home team wins 74% of the time"?  Who is the loser that has the job of pulling up this useless information?  Just yesterday on ESPN radio I heard that someone (don't know who or care who it was) got his first NHL overtime playoff goal.  Does anyone really care about these statistics?  Do the odds makers in Vegas take these stats into account when they are setting the line?  How many of you consider these stats when you are getting in office pools for the NCAA tournament or the Super Bowl?  Its almost as bad as when John Madden gives us the "excellent" (insert sarcasim here) commentary of "the team that scores more is going to win this game".  So what are some of the other stupid statistics you have heard and do you place any stock in them.

Worst Sportcasters
Mar 26, 2008 | 5:48AM | report this

Where have all the great sportcasters gone?  Men like Keith Jackson and Howard Cosell.  Sportcasters that could call any game in any sport and would keep you on the edge of your seat.  These days it seems we have sportcasters that don't know the difference between the Wishbone and a hole in the ground.  Analysts that give you insight like "if they would score more points they would win more games".

So here is the question - Who are the worst most idiotic, hated or anoying sportcasters in all of sports?  I have two that top my list.  First is Lee Corso.  There is a joke in Alabama about the only thing Bama fans and Auburn Fans can agree on is they both hate Lee Corso.  Why do people listen to this guy.  He NEVER had a winning record as a head coach but it seems that people hang on his every word like he is a college football guru.  All he can tell you is how to lose.  It would be like me getting tips on being a championship boxer from Butterbean.  The second is #### Vital.  I won't argue that Dicky V knows his stuff, but if I had to listen to him using the term "baby" on a regular basis I would go postal.  I want emotion and an upbeat personality not someone who acts like a kid with ADD on a sugar high.  So let me hear it - Who are some other sportcasters that need to go away for one reason or another or if nothing else just shut up?

Signing Day National Campionship?
Feb 11, 2008 | 5:23AM | report this
Ok this is just to ask all of the college footbal fans out there one simple question - does anyone care about the mythical national championship for signing day?  I for one am already sick of hearing that Alabama has the top recruting class.  AND I AM AN ALABAMA FAN!  The hype that is made over signing day makes me sick.  Let's face it, having the top recruiting class means nothing but a stat on a piece of paper.  In order to stop the arguement before it starts - yes I know that means that Alabama has the best group of high school players coming in which should translate to a better team, more wins, and more championships (SEC and National).  But how many top blue chip players turned out to be over rated and have done absolutely nothing in college?  In fact the same can be said for the NFL draft - (Any one remember "Crying" Ryan Leaf?).  The fact is the best team in college football is decided on the field of play and not on a piece of paper 7 months before the season starts.  Let's look at Auburn for example -  correct me if I'm wrong but they have not had a top 10 recruiting class over the last seven or so years, but over the same peroid of time they have had one of the best records in the SEC.  So let's hear it college football fans - is there too much hype about signing day?

Let the butt kissing begin
Jan 18, 2007 | 5:00AM | report this

I just saw the 2007 preseason top 25 and I think I'm going to be sick.  Since USC is not going to split the national title this year thanks to Boise State crying they should split it with Florida, the all knowing media has givin the #1 spot to USC.  The only thing that is keeping me from throwing up right now is that they have finally realized that Notre Dame is over rated and left them out of the top 25.  And where is Boise State in the top 25?  Oh right they were good enough to go undefeated this year but not good enough to be in the top 25.  I am completely against preseason rankings because of the BCS.  Since the BCS takes into account where a team has been ranked all season, teams should start the season where they ended up in the polls the year before.  Tell you what USC you want to earn that #1 spot?  Then for one year you can be exempt from your normal weak conference schedule and play the following twelve teams in any order.  1)Florida 2)LSU 3)Wisconsin 4)Boise State 5)Texas 6)Oklahoma 7)Tennessee 8)Ohio State 9)UCLA 10)Nebraska 11)West Virginia 12)Virginia Tech.  Play these top preseason top 25 teams and if you can run the table then you deserve that ranking and I (and the reast of the world) would give you your due.  And if you can't go undefeated then it would prove that you like Notre Dame are highly over rated.

Still no love for the SEC
Jan 09, 2007 | 4:37AM | report this
I posted a blog here last week and asked the question "why does the media hate the SEC".  And after some of the articles I've seen this morning it obvious the question is still there.  On foxsports.com this morning under the college football section what do I see but a comment about how Urban Meyer begged to get into the championship game.  Lets look at some of the facts.  1 Ohio State beat Michigan.  2 UCLA beats USC.  Both came at the end of the season.  3 USC then beats Michigan like a red-headed step child in the Rose Bowl.  Face it Michigan no one wanted to see you get beat by Ohio State again.  But its obivious that several media players wanted a rematch to keep Florida out of the title game.  Why?  41-14 answers that question.  And all you'll here about totoday is how Boise State is the only undefeated team left.  And don't misunderstand me, that's a great accomplishment.  But can anyone tell me how many top 25 teams they played?  So as I've said before the SEC is the most difficult conference to play in.  On the blog I posted friday someone made the comment that the SEC should schedule a tougher non-conference games.  But in reality Ohio State, Michigan, USC, and Notre Dame should do it.  Florida and LSU  finished in the top five of the polls, so where is the rush by the above mentioned non-SEC teams to schedule them as a non-conference game.  Its not going to happen.  With a few exceptions they don't want to risk a loss by playing an SEC when they can schedule a team from the "we're just happy to to get spanked by you if you pay us enough" conference.  And while those teams are at it play a conference championship game while your at it.  Oh wait can't do that - another chance for a loss.  So sorry Big 10, PAC 10, Big 12, ACC, Big East, independant Notre Dame, and all the other conferences - but the National Champion resides in the SEC.  Better luck next year.

Medias hatred of the SEC
Jan 05, 2007 | 5:55AM | report this
Why is it that the media hates the SEC?  I just read an article on Fox Sports and they said that in 2003 LSU shared a national title.  Correction LSU WON a national title.  But because the media felt bad that USC got left out they split the title.  Then a year later when Auburn went undefeated and USC won the title, the media says "oh we can't keep spliting the national title."  The SEC is the toughest conference to play in, which is the reason that there is rarely an undefeated team.  If any other team in the country played in the SEC, I guarantee that more times than not they couldn't go undefeated.  So you media guys get off your knees, and wipe your mouth and get out of teams like USC and Notre Dame's bedroom and do your job with an unbiased opinion.
