Dodger offseason
Nov 29, 2007 | 12:31PM | report this
Dodger fans is anyone else fed up with this commitment to mediocrity. Dodgers have one playoff victory and zero series wins since 1988. Something has got to change. In an interview last week colletti stated his stay the course rhetoric and he truly believes dodger fans are foolish enough to think that joe torre alone will take an 82 win squad to the playoffs. The fact is since the McCourts took over they have not spent money on a single big free agent. We continue to get these washed up veterans who are often injurred and years past there prime ex.
*Bill Mueller-3b... injurred less than a month into first season
* Nomar Garciaparra- signed a two year extension after only one productive season nomar has missed time in each of the past five seasons.
* Jason Schmidt- signed a huge contract last season, had a history of injury but management didnt care
* J.D. Drew- the thing that irritates me most about this one is we signed him for similar money as it would have been to retain adrian beltre who was almost an mvp the year before.....drew promptly got paid and under preformed

Im fed up with hearing excuses and how good the farm is I love James Loney, Billingsley, Kemp, and Kershaw but even without them we still have high grade prospects that we could use to get back an adrian beltre or trade for a troy glaus, miguel cabrerra, hank blalock, joe crede etc.

At the winter meetings next week i want to see action and if as dodger fans we dont see an Aaron Rowand, Andruw Jones and or Hiroki Koruda I dont think we should continue to go to chavez ravine. Fans need to make a statement that we love this team but we wont but up with garbage any longer. We are the Los Angeles Dodgers for goodness sake we draw more fans and revenue than anybody that isnt named New York Yankees. Its time to act like it.

Hate to say it, but the Dodgers are turning into the Clippers. Everytime they get some talent, they either trade him, or he gets hurt. The Dodgers need to do a lot more work this offseason than just getting Joe Torre!

I agree 100% - i have been a season ticket holder for 3 years now, i have yet to renew my season tickets, neither will i do so, until something gets done..... That doesnt mean only signing "Joe Torre"???? These Dodgers finished in 4th place last year?? 4th place (Dodger Fans) unacceptable for this franchise - If we dont get Santana/Cabrera/Rowland/Jones or some major factor I will not purchase season tickets -
We didnt have 1 guy on our team that had over 20 homeruns?? I dont think anybody had over 100 RBI's??? This team lacks punch and another starting pitcher - if those two things dont get filled, i will be watching the games from home!!!!!

While I don't think Loney will be the big power hitter that the Dodgers covet, he will hit more than enough HRs to offset Nomar's lack of production last season. I can see him hitting between 24-30 HRs this season as he adjusts to starting full-time to start the season. Plus Loney will hit above .300 year after year. He'll be a top run producer. Andruw Jones is still an above-average CF. He'll benefit from a change of scenery. Put Ethier in LF and Kemp in RF. Kemp has a chance to be a five-tool player, something we haven't had since Raul Mondesi.

As for Torre, he took young, talent-laden Yankees teams to multiple World Series titles. The Dodgers' young players remind me of the 1995 Yankees, a team on the verge of contending year after year.

So far, the Dodgers have resisted the temptation to trade their young studs. Good. The pitching staff will be much better this year, and wait until 2009, when Clayton Kershaw is added to the rotation. Jonathan Broxton will more than likely be the closer by then.

GO DODGERS!!
