Hey, guys and gals. I was watching SPEED Channel tonight and they had coverage of The American Le Mans Series. I know, big deal, right? Well, the Big Deal was that it was reported that Helio Castroneves and his sister were indicted by the government for tax fraud. Did any of you catch that? Helio would not grant any interviews to anyone about anything. Maybe he will be "Dancing with more Stars!"
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone besides me heard/saw that.
Vol - If you click on the MORE tab, under IRL on Foxsports website, there is an article on this. It was up there earlier today. It's the main feature on the IRL page.
I'm right here Doll, If you post it, They will come. I can feel his pain, Helio that is. The Government is hounding me for moneys Ive made selling my short stories. To compound matters, I'm being sued by the 2 main charecters of my last murder mystery. Seems the Bombshell is playing me like a violin all over again. Love Ya, write more often! Dam it!!
Gerrel, thanks! That article said it all didn't it.
photogr, it sure looks like he is in a world of hurt.
h20, thanks.
b@o, LOL. Do you think degraf has sent hit men after us? There's been a black limo with dark tinted windows parked across the street from my house for two days.
Lisa, LOL! He tried to hide a little over 5 and a half million in income. Indicted on 5 counts! Each count could give him 5 years in The Big House! Somehow, people with that kind of money don't seem to spend much time in jail though. Well, Martha Stewart did a little.LOL
Anyway, his lawyer, Alan Miller, is also a lawyer for the likes of Jimmie Johnson and a few other NASCAR drivers. I bet they'll be "looked at" also, don't you?
If I could make 5 million I would gladly pay the taxes!

There are certain things you know that's inevitable death and taxes. And you certainly don't cheat Uncle Sam of what he's due. Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's .
There's a lesson to be learnt there for Castroneves. Pity though 'cause he's now liable to lose a lot more than he gained financially.
This is WHY Uncle Sam TAKES your taxes out of your paycheck BEFORE you get your hands on it....if given the choice, most people wouldn't pay it...at least not as much as they take now.
Look at your gross vs your net...lots of zeros missing.
I pay my taxes (I ain't F'n with the IRS!!), but this country was founded on a tax revlot...it's human nature to want to keep what you earn.
Especially when I KNOW could spend it much better than these crooked politicians do, and retire quite nicely with MY money that THEY like to spend like water.
Bleed, you are very much admired by me. I certainly know what you mean with your comment. I ain't F'n with the IRS either! We have our paychecks and our side construction business. Taxes drive me nuts, but I'm paying them. No way am I/we going to get caught up in this kind of mess. (Actually, we have a tax attorney do our taxes every quarter. I'm not smart enough to do it all.LOL)

As of now I can say is that Castroneves is treading on thin ice. I doubt that he'll be fully able to extricate himself out of this. If the Justice Dept and the Feds have the proof and the veracity of the case is strong. Then his best bet at this juncture is to cop a plea agreement and pay the fines and whatever other penalties that are enforced upon him.
Twenty five years may well be too much to bare for him.
top, I certainly agree with you. I just can't imagine doing such a thing. As I said before, I guess I've led a sheltered life. Your word is your bond, if you shake hands that is a contract, you always uphold your name and your family honor. I just don't get cheating--whether it is taxes, in a marriage, on a game, or whatever. Maybe I'm just simple minded. As always, thanks for your insight.
I guess the Yankees are next to hit the goverment hammer as well so its been told in small circles over fraud of fixing the value price of the land the new ball park is on.
How dumb was that to try and hid that much money, Hello ! Great stuff Volfan69. Great to see you posting.
Cheers
Forensic, I hadn't heard/read that about the ballpark. What in the world makes people think they can get away with that kind of action? Thank you so much for your comment. As always, I love and respect ya! vol/Bobbie

It's now up to Castroneves as to how he'll want to proceed. The IRS and Justice Dept lay it all out on the line.
I'd dare say that if he could change the outcome of this all he would.
I see our boy O'J has finally had his comeuppance ? Guilty on all 12 counts of felonious assault kidnapping. But the ironic thing that I find in all of this is the fact that a predominantly African American jury found him guilty. Whereas when he was on trial for murder in LA a predominantly Caucasian jury saw fit to find him not guilty. What's up with that ?
Vol- JJ was asked about this yesterday in the media center during his "press time." JJ said he had been with that lawyer since age 14 and trusted him and would keep using him but would keep his eyes on the situation...I think there is a blurb about this in one of Lee's articles on the NASCAR page today.
justan, I think Castroneves is in for a rough ride.
As far as O.J., I am one of those that thought he was innocent, at least I didn't want to believe he wasn't innocent, the first time around. Do you really think he got a fair shake on this trial?
Hey do you get Ovation TV? Its a Direct TV channel.....They have the one....the only....Johnny Cash "Half Mile a Day" on.......Aside from Dale Sr. passing away...Johnny's passing was......reality....

Well it appears that Castroneves will now meet his fate with the Justice Dept. But at the same I can't understand why in the first place he'd even consider entering into such dangerous territory. If it's one thing that I've learned in my professional life where I've dealt with clients. It's that I've always advised them to have sound records and never ever try to think that you can out maneuver the government at all. You tend to pay dearly for it in the end.
tophatal, we have our income from jobs and our small business. I can tell you for certain that we have our taxes done by a professional and we would never put ourselves in that position. I keep records of everything. Yes, it is a lot of work, but it pays off in the end.

It's crazy to think that Castroneves if found guilty on all counts will face up to 25 years in prison. I know it's not a violent crime but damn ?
It is what it is as they say.
Below is a link on my anecdote with regard to NASCAR and the travails that the sport now faces. If you're interested take a look and let me know what you think as to the merits of the pieces in question ? I'll look forward to reading your comments. Just click on the text provided to view.
