Some days during the week seem as if they will never end. You know those days. . .The Kids, the Boss, the Husband or Wife. And every time you look at the clock, it is only five minutes later than the last time you looked. When I find myself locked into those sluggish days, I look for the only cure there is out there for me.
In my mind I picture a beautiful golden fall Sunday afternoon. The air is crisp, and I can smell leaves burning at some neighbor's house close by. I can hear that distant sounds of a chainsaw. I am dressed in my favorite pair of old jeans, my comfy Redskin's sweatshirt and my Vans. Beside me is my Yellow Lab Sammy. His nose is twitching and his tail is wagging, because he knows this is our time! In the sun his coat shines the two most beautiful colors in the world to me, Burgundy and Gold!
My boys are out back, as they usually are on this type of Sunday. I always tell them, "No Tackle football!" But, somehow touch becomes push, and pushes become shoves, which eventually leads to tackling. If I close my eyes I can hear them laughing and congratulating each other on some new feat they managed to accomplish. My Husband has just finished his weekly call back home to Arkansas, and in the background I can hear Howie getting in a dig on Terry! As usual someone has something negative to say about the 'Skins, but I just roll my eyes and have the same conversation with my Husband about why the media seems to hate the Redskins? Which always leads to the same conclusion. . .Daniel Snyder. Oh well, what are you going to do?
If my Redskins play at one then I start to get excited. My heart rate increases and I try to keep myself busy until the kickoff. If the game is not until four or later my Husband, who is the cook, will make a big ole pot of Chicken and Dumpling's so that we have it ready to eat during the game. It is a smell I associate with this type Sunday!
When it is time for the game, we all gather around the TV. I see those I love most in this world. They are all gathered together in a celebration that is a tradition that has been passed down for many years, one that I know my children will carry along to my grandchildren. I wish I could think of a word that truly describes this, but the closest I can get is...content. There is nothing like this in the world to me!
I am so lost in this vision when finally I realize I have to come back to the real world. Though nothing can bother me now, as I have found my zen. . . "Football, My Yellow Dog and Sunday Afternoon."
HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!
I would love to hear what your Sunday traditions are!
Ang, good post as usual. Out here, since games start at 10 am, I have coffee and breakfast burritos when I watch the early game. The afternoon (or late) game involves sandwiches. The Sunday night game I'll have a steak and some beer. I'll sometimes barbecue between the late game and the Sunday night NBC game.
IMHO, the West Coast is the best place to watch football, but that's for another time and blog...:) Of course I'm used to watching games at 10 am.
Hail to the Redskins (until they play the Panthers!) Beat the NY Giants and put them out of their misery!!

Thanks Jon! I have to come and stop by your place after this! I have to tell you I am starving now TYVM! LOL!
Well then I will look forward to that blog. Hey when you post, if you can, please email me. I am at abasnight@yahoo.com, or just pop in here and let me know.
Oh and on my last blog, which were picks for week 3, I have the Panthers over the Falcons...hands down! :)
Well I will take the support for the 'Skins and thank you for it! So we will just have to save a good old debate when we play each other!
You're wearing VANS?
You a child of the early 80's????
Any hoooo. The Skins are playing the Giants.
You get the W, without too much effort.
No defense in NY this year!
I sure do wear Vans. Never stopped. I was a teen in the 80's and they are so comfortable. Plus, I have three sons, teenagers, who wear them and other skate shoes. My Mom just went out and bought her a new pair herself.
Well you know me...I have just made my knuckles bloody by knocking on wood! I will say that I hope so! The Giants really have to get rid of Coughlin. He is making those guys miserable up there! But the one thing that got me, was when Tiki said it was Coughlin that made him stop playing football and retire early. Please! If he loves football as much as he says he does, then why not come to Washington, who was his childhood team? When he retired last season he said he was so happy to end regular season playing against a team he has always loved! We would have taken him. but he would have to get in line behind Portis and Betts. :)
Thanks for the comment and who knows maybe your Vikes can pull this one off!

Great Post!!! I have two dogs myself. Don't you think the Redskins look better when they wear their red jerseys? They sure looked sharp on Monday night. December 1st my Bills play your Skins. Hopefully we can get a little revenge for Superbowl XXVI.

Thank you very much for the comment! I love the Burgundy/Red jersey the most. I think that against their white pants is awesome! It is my favorite one :0)
What kind of Dogs? I love dogs!
I look forward to the rematch! And good luck to your Bills today against the Pats.
Have a Great Sunday!

PS The Skins did look good on Monday night, but that is all I can say, because I am a very superstitious fan. I wrote about how crazy I am with that stuff. :)
Sammy and I WILL LOVE YOU for that! Oh and while he is there, if wants more, he will walk up to you and tap your leg twice. He drives me crazy with that, but I think it is the cutest thing. He has done it since he was about 8 weeks old. He is three now, and the best dog/son! I know I said son, but I have raised him since he was 6 weeks, and he is just another one of my Boys!
Did you know that they breed the perfect Lab house dogs? Sammy has only had one accident in the house, and that was when he was a baby, and he could not get out the backdoor quick enough, and he was so embarrassed! But they really do breed them as house dogs. Okay I could go on forever! But I will spare you. :0)
Have fun jon, and I got to check out your blog. Thanks for comment and the heads up!
Ang
P.S. Sammy is beautiful! I had to get that out! haha!
loved the read!! I have a basset hound and she loves to lay with me and watch games......she does get mad when I get carried away (which is very often...lol) I have 2 daughters. One is grown and lives in Tenn the other is a SR in high school. Enjoy the laughter coming from your backyard while you can. It seems to go away far too fast.
Now I am sad.....gonna have to think about my Steelers or the win my Cats came out with...lol
Thank you very much. I love basset hounds! Their long ears and the way they walk is adorable, and I have heard they are so loyal. I know all about getting carried away! Whenever I do, or someone else does, Sammy jumps up and tries to put his arms on your shoulders, then precedes to lick you to death! Plus he loves football! He has his own, and when we say..down, he drops his front down to the ground, but before we can get out set...he jumps offsides, LOL! He will play out back with the boys and try to pull them down by their shirts. I swear he really is one of my kids. Can you tell I love him? :0)
I hear you about them growing up too fast. My oldest is almost 18. He is a Senior in HS. My middle is almost 15 and he just started HS, and my baby is 12 and he is in Middle, which was Jr. high when I went there! They do grow up far too fast! I am going to enjoy every minute of them being at home. Well maybe not the moments when they are arguing, but something tells me I am going to miss that too!
Yes think about your Cats and the Steelers are up by one right now, and I think they will pull it off! I like the run back for the TD! That should cheer you up!
Talk with you soon and thank you for the comment!

MY Sunday and Monday from Sept to end of January or mid-February is watching Joe Jackson Gibbs and his pupils.....They are currently trailing Giants by 14 points..........
Ang...nice post! Sunday traditions usually involve laundry (how boring) and watching the Skins...and they are looking better than ever. Hail to the Redksins! let's rock!
I just discovered your blog today. I used to blog here about 10 months ago and just came back today. Really enjoyed your post about your dog and family. I have a 2-1/2 year old mixed breed of Bassethound, Spanial, and Australian Shepherd named Sky, after her one blue eye (the other is brown, part of her A/S markings).
I'm a Texan fan and appreciate you picking them to upset Indy. Well, they didn't, but they didn't embarass themselves as in past years, only losing by 6.
It is very heartbreaking to see the SKINS losing this way vs the weakened Giants 24-17..Now they have a reason to keep hope alive..the Giants that is.....
Yes that is a wonderful way to spend those months! I know it is my favorite way! Unfortunately we did not get the W today, but we have a bye next week to get the kinks worked out. I wish I knew what happened during half time, but I am hopeful it will be worked on. Plus, the only good thing that I can think of, is this will show the team we have to not think we got the season wrapped up already! But I would have rather had the win!
Thanks for the comment, and please stop in and see me anytime!
Thanks Lisa !I know the laundry drill on Sunday. Not the best part, but it has to be done, so therefore it is a tradition! :0)
The Skins did look good in the first half, but man did something go wrong during half time! You know I think the Giants, like Philly, just refused to lose today. Did you see that Philly score? Fifty something points, WOW! Not the same team we played Monday.
Anyway, the loss stinks and we should have gotten that ball into the end zone and went into O.T.! But I will just wait for two weeks and pray they come back better than ever!
Thank you for the comment and no matter what, "Hail to the Redskins'!"
Ang
Well hello OSL. It is very nice to meet you! Thank you very much for the kind words, and I am glad you enjoyed my post. Your dog sounds beautiful. I love a dog that has different color eyes.
I am sorry about Houston. I really think they would pull it off, but I also thought my 'Skins would pull it off today too. Hey, I still think the Texans are going to have a great season! And no they did not embarrass themselves. I have been very impressed by your team this season!
Thank you again, and please stop in and visit anytime!
Take care,
Ang
It was very heartbreaking indeed, but I think we should be okay. The Giants wanted it more, but we cannot let it happen again! Two divisional game this week, and it took its toll! But hey it would not be the Redskins if they did not almost give us a heart attack! :0)
Oh how right you are! We did have it right there in our grasp, but it slipped away. It is a tough loss, but one I hope we will learn a lesson from and move forward! Thanks for the condolence.
Yes McNabb looked awesome today. I think the Eagles and Giants both had so much to prove, and being it was only the third game of the season, they knew it was now or never. But you know it really seems like the old NFC East now!
I have not said this to anyone, but this season means so much to me and my family, because on Feb.1st I lost my Grandmother suddenly. A week later we found out my Grandfather, who just barely made it through the funeral, had stage four brain cancer. And My Uncle Jay, another Die Hard Redskins fan, who took care of my Grandparents, died suddenly on Feb 22nd of a massive heart attack. He was only 42. My Grandfather lasted until July 17th and now he too is gone. It has been a very hard, hard year. So I am looking to my Redskins to have a great year!
I do not know why I felt like I needed to get that out, but it just felt like it was time to let everybody know this. Every game I have a chair set up for my Uncle Jay with his Redskins outfit over it, and his picture on it. I just want us to win so badly for him! He loved Riggins the most!
Anyway, I hope you had a great weekend!
Take care Mean and talk with you soon!
Ang
Well, here's to the memory of your wonderful family. They're not gone ... because they're looking down on you from above. And cheering on the Redskins, of course!
Clear your head or heart anytime with me. It's cool. That's what blog buddies are for.
Riggins was awesome. He's an all-time favorite in my book.
Sorry that the Skins didn't get the W. Hope they get the kinks worked out during the bye week. The Bears are beating the Cowboys, let's hope they keep it up!
Thanks so much Mean. That means a lot too me. Please know that I am here for you as well. Anytime!
Yep ole Riggo was something else, and now I watch him on Comcast every afternoon! And boy did I get the surprise of my life today! LaVar Arrington, who had my heart from the moment he became a Redskin, and when he left I was devastated, was today on Comcast. He was sitting there, looking so good and healthy after his motorcycle accident, and they announced he will be a commentator for them for the rest of the season! Maybe he will come back to the 'Skins next season!
Thanks for the "Go Bears!!!" I think this person is the same person passing themself off as Hotblondemilf. Because I went in and read her/his blog and it was so full of unbelievable inaccuracies about the Redskins. Which this person claims to be a Redskins fan, and I just had to correct her, and now this is what I get, LOL!
Yes it was. We should of had the TD at the end of the game to go into O.T.. Actually, we should have never let it get out of hand in the 2nd half. But it is a early lesson to learn, and I think it is better that way. With the bye I hope we get things strait, and come back stronger for it!
BTW, Congrats on the Tampa Bay win. I think it is one of the only ones I called right today! And also, Congrats on the # 3 Gators! I could have smacked my Husband today when he said, " I guess I can't have it both ways. If the Hogs lose, then the Redskins will win!" You know when he said that? During half time, and look what happened! It is all his fault, LOL!
Sammy needs his pic in all of your Blogs.
Pictures make a blog an easier and more interesting read. You clearly get that.
Form before content: Arthur Andersen taught me that.
hey vbchick. I saw your tiff with the self-proclaimed milf....lmao That says it all right there!!
My best advice is to ignore the negative posts or posts that make you really mad for whatever reason. It really isn't worth it dear. Not on a blog. I think she is the one that said something hateful about my Cats and my answer was "you know what they say about blondes." Doubt she got it but hope others did...lmao
Come see the new He Said She Said. You will NOT believe it!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I agree slsh. Sammy should be in every blog I write. I have tried to remember to use both. Because I agree that if the form is not great, it will negatively effect the content!
Thanks my friend!

I have decide to step away from the crazy person who is definitely "self-proclaimed" with the screen name, lol! When I read that nonsense about how stupid players are, and then the nonsense about the Redskins...I lost it! As I was commenting each time, the voice of reason was shouting in my ear. I have now come to my senses, thank the Lord! And you are right, I know I should never comment when I am mad, or even read a post that bothers me! And I am lucky to have good friends to remind me. Thank you...:)
lmao...I am sure she did not get it. I would love it if we could rename the screen name..my vote is oxymoron! For every single comment she makes...she finishes it with an opposite thought!
I just finished your new posts and I have to say that it must have been one of the most difficult things you have ever had to do! I congratulate you, because I am not sure I could have ever done it! But, I think the Kentucky fans will not forsake or stone you. Your love for them shone through!
I have to say I am a bit embarassed. After telling you to hold your temper I lost mine just a bit.
On Rev's blog. page 2 you will see a guy named Pete-nice (YEAH RIGHT)! Take alook at what he ahs said on Rev's blog first then come to mine and see his comments. It was the one's one Rev's that IRKed me bad!! Althought not too happy with mine either. I couldn't help it but did fuss at him on Rev's :( The thing is, we have fussed before. He is a HUGE Rev fan and just cuts anyone else!! I HATE FOLOWERS!!! Take a look if you can!

I have been a Washington Redskins Fan all of my life. I come from four generations of "We bleed Burgundy and Gold" Redskins fanatics! I have three teenage sons who are following in this great tradition.
I also am a huge Cal Ripken fan. Congrats to his Hall of fame induction. I would rather go and see a baseball game in person, then watch it on TV. My oldest Son is doing his best to make his dream come true. He has played baseball his whole life, and is being scouted now.
I live in Virginia Beach, Va. I am a native, not a tourist. I work for Canon USA and I love every minute of it! I believe you should Love life, and Live for Redskins Football! HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!
