As Thanksgiving Day approaches, our blessings we recall; the things we are most thankful for, we recollect them all. You are really special, in all you say and do. You’ve made a difference in our lives; we’re thankful now for you.
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving Day? What’s its significance, all of us say. We all find importance for which we are thankful, and what we spend on this holiday is surely a bank full. First the purchase of food for parties galore, then the fuel and decorating costs come to the fore. We eat so much food that many get ill, and drug makers get richer with each little pill. It all becomes clear, if we closely examine that we’re not giving thanks for avoiding a famine; we’re creating the wealth and the plenty we see, including the sports ads we watch on TV.

I would like to share a story that we just heard from a family member. We will give a title of “The Sack of Lunches” The man was going home from a visit to a family that he hasn’t seen since he was 11 year-olds. Continuing to my story:
The man boards the plane. The manput his carry-on in the luggage compartment and sat down in his assigned seat. He give a sigh, “It is going to be a long flight. 'I'm glad I have a good book to read. Perhaps I will get a short nap,” the man said.
Just before the plane's take-off, a line of soldiers came down the aisle and filled all the vacant seats, totally surrounding him. The man started a conversation. "Where are you headed?" He asked the soldier seated nearest to him. One of the soldier answer, “Chicago, - to Great Lakes Base. We'll be there for two weeks for special training, and then we're being deployed to Iraq”.
After flying for about an hour, an announcement was made that sack lunches were available for five dollars. It would be several hours before they reached Chicago, and the man quickly decided a lunch would help pass the time. As the man reached for his wallet, he overheard one of the soldier ask his buddy if he planned to buy lunch. His buddy said, “No, that seems like a lot of money for just a sack of lunch. Probably wouldn't be worth five bucks. I'll wait till we get to Chicago”. And the other soldier agreed.
The man looked around at the other soldiers. None of them were buying lunch. The man then walked to the back of the plane and handed the flight attendant a fifty-dollar bill and said, “Please take a lunch to all those soldiers”. The flight attendant grabbed the man’s arms and squeezed tightly. Her eyes wet with tears, she thanked him and said, “my son was a soldier in Iraq; it's almost like you are doing it for him.”
Picking up ten sacks, the flight attendant headed up the aisle to where the soldiers were seated. She stopped at the man’s seat and asked, "Which do you like best – beef or chicken?". "Chicken" the man replied, wondering why the flight attendant asked. The flight attendant turned and went to the front of the plane, returning a minute later with a dinner plate from first class. "This is yours, thanks."
After they all finished eating, the man went again to the back of the plane, heading for the rest room. A passenger stopped him and said, “I saw what you did. I want to be part of it. Here, take this." He handed the man twenty-five dollars.
Soon after the man returned to his seat, he saw the Flight Captain coming down the aisle, looking at the aisle numbers as the Flight Captain walked, the man hoped the Flight Captain was not looking for him, but noticed the Flight Captain was looking at the numbers only on his side of the plane. When the Flight Captain got to his row the Flight Captain stopped, smiled, held out his hand, and said, “I want to shake your hand” Quickly unfastening the man seatbelt he stood and took the Captain's hand. With a booming voice the Flight Captain said, “I was a soldier and I was a military pilot. Once, someone bought me a lunch. It was an act of kindness I will never forgot”. The man was embarrassed when applause was heard from all of the passengers.
Later, the man walked to the front of the plane so he could stretch his legs. Another man who was seated about six rows in front of him reached out his hand, wanting to shake his hands and left another twenty-five dollars in his palm.
When the plane landed in Chicago, the man gathered his belongings and started to depart the plane. Waiting just inside the airplane door was another man who stopped him, put something in his shirt pocket, turned, and walked away without saying a word. Another twenty-five dollars!?
Upon entering the terminal, the man saw the soldiers gathering for their trip to the base. The man walked over to them and handed them seventy-five dollars and said, “It will take you some time to reach the base, and it will be about time for a sandwich. Thank you & God Bless You ".
Ten young men left that flight feeling the love and respect of their fellow travelers. As the man walked briskly to his car, he whispered a prayer for their safe return. These soldiers were giving their all for our country. All I could give them is a couple of meals. It seemed so little...

We for one agreed to the restructure of the NBA’s referees operations department and only began posting officiating assignments in the morning of games, because criminal activity will always exist every place else in the world and that something no one can guarantee. But I think the NBA is going to have the most effective possible system that's ever been devised don’t think so?

A convicted murderer who threatened to kill his victim's wife if he was ever released from prison was paroled Tuesday.
James A. Bush, now 53, was sentenced to die in 1975 after his conviction in the stabbing death a year earlier of Kirby Marshburn of Jacksonville. When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the death penalty in 1976, Bush's sentence was commuted to life in prison.
After 33 years in custody, Bush walked away from Davidson Correctional Center a free man Tuesday morning.
"It is still unbelievable to me that in this state, one can go from death row to possible release from prison," Senior Assistant Onslow County District Attorney Ernie Lee wrote in one of his numerous letters opposing Bush's parole every year since Bush was first eligible in 2000.
Bush's release is the result of his participation in the Mutual Agreement Parole Program, said Mary Harrop, a spokeswoman for the Post Release and Parole Commission.
MAPP is designed to prepare selected inmates who were sentenced prior to 1994 for release through structured activities, vocational courses and participation in community-based programs, according to the N.C. Department of Correction.
"Although I was not the prosecuting attorney in the Bush case, this case rates as among the most horrendous, senseless murders I have dealt with in this county," Lee wrote in letters to the parole commission opposing Bush's early release. "Under no circumstances should this brutal, cold-blooded murderer be released back into society."
Bush, a Marine at the time, stole a car aboard Camp Lejeune and crashed it in a ditch near Marshburn's Jacksonville home. Bush walked to Marshburn's home and asked to use the telephone even though he walked passed a payphone and had change in his pocket, according to court documents.
In court, Bush said Marshburn told him "a #### boy down the street has a wrecker."
Bush, who is black, told the court the remark made him angry and he stabbed Marshburn, who was white, from behind.
Marshburn was stabbed 14 times, according to autopsy reports.
Marshburn's wife, Eva Marshburn, arrived home from work and walked in on Bush killing her husband. Bush tied her up with phone cord he had cut from the wall and threatened to kill her if she ever testified against him, court records state.
Bush ransacked the house, took Marshburn's wallet from his pocket as the 65-year-old man lay dying. Bush left Eva Marshburn tied up to watch her husband bleed to death, according to court records.
Eva Marshburn died in 2004 at the age of 92. "She lived with the memories of seeing her husband murdered for 30 years," Lee wrote in a 2005 letter opposing Bush's parole.
Attempts by The Daily News to locate Bush or contact the Marshburn family members were unsuccessful.
In 1987, a federal judge ordered a new trial for Bush due to an error in jury instructions. Bush was convicted again of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
Lee wrote in a letter to the Parole Commission that Bush "was sentenced to death and deserved to die in the gas chamber of this state. If the decision were left to me and the law so allowed, I would return him to death row."

Sadly, those flags have all but disappeared. Our patriotism pulled us through some tough times and it shouldn't take another attack to galvanize us in solidarity. Our American flag is the fabric of our country and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds
Action Plan:
So, he re's what we need you to do .. &n bsp; (1) Let as many people read this and Take a moment to think back to how you felt on 9/11 and let those sentiments guide you.
(2) Fly an American flag of any size on 9/11. Honestly, Americans should fly the flag year-round, but if you don't, then at least make it a priority on this day.

US women's hoops finishes pool play unbeaten, Tina Thompson scored 10 points during a 21-0 run in the second quarter and the U.S. women's basketball team beat New Zealand 96-60 on Sunday night.
The U.S. closed out pool play in the same fashion as all its other games in the Olympics — with a blowout. The Americans won the five games by an average of 43 points. With the exception of a rough first half against Spain and the first 3 minutes against the Czech Republic, the U.S. looked unbeatable.
"You got to take care of this to move on," said U.S. co-captain Katie Smith, who added 13 points. "You can't look at this game and think we played well and we're going to move on. It's about what we do in two days."
The U.S. will play South Korea in the quarterfinals Tuesday night. The South Koreans advanced to the next round by holding off Latvia 72-68 on Sunday.
"We don't know much about them yet," Smith added. "They hit a lot of 3s and love to drive and kickout for the open shot."
New Zealand was able to stay close with the U.S. for a quarter behind hot shooting. They were 8-for-16 in the first quarter and only trailed by five at the end of the period.
The U.S. took over in the second quarter turning up their defensive intensity. Lisa Wallbutton's jumper with 7:29 left in the period cut New Zealand's deficit to 29-22 before the Americans scored 21 straight points.
Lisa Leslie started the run with a layup and then Thompson hit three layups and two jumpers over the next 5 minutes as the U.S. stretched out its lead. DeLisha Milton-Jones' reverse layup ended the run with 18 seconds left in the half and put the Americans up 50-22.
"I just happen to be in the right place at the right time," said Thompson, who finished with 15 points. "I actually thought that I missed a lot of shots early that I usually hit."
New Zealand (1-4) finally scored on Jillian Harmon's jumper from the corner just at the halftime buzzer. The Kiwis missed eight straight shots and had three turnovers during the drought.
It was a pretty exciting opportunity," said Harmon, who will be a senior at Stanford this fall. "I think most of us grew up watching these girls. I think I was 10-years-old when Lisa Leslie played in her first Olympics. It was a good experience. I think we played pretty well, all things considered."
The U.S. extended its lead in the third quarter to 38 in the third quarter behind Smith, who had eight of her 13 points in the period. New Zealand got no closer than 31 the rest of the game.
