a strong possibility or not?
Aug 31, 2008 | 7:21PM | report this

Are you ready for NBA Finals rematch between Kobe and KG ?

Will Kobe lead the Lakers to the best record in the west for the second time?

I think Kobe is ready, but do you think his team mates ready ?

Are they Motivated enough to prove to everybody that they can play good enough to be a threepeat champ?

Bryant's ready to lead but the real question you ought to be asking at this juncture ?
Is the Lakers' roster good enough as it now stands ? There are clearly deficiencies there that need to be addressed. They were exposed in these Finals. And it was plain to see. If they're not addressed then there's no way in hell that they're return to a Western Conference finals let alone an NBA championship finals.

They are very good...no denying that. But they are not championship material yet. Bynum for a full season will be a tremendous help....but my heart tells me that they need more than Bynum to get over the top. A team with the right players and defensive strategy can stop them...just ask Boston. What they need is a mind set of DEFENSE FIRST AT ALL TIMES.....just being committed to that end of the floor will give them 10 more points per game easily...

Kupcheck went personally to check out Bynum in his hometown and said he's pleased with his workout. He's running and doing everything without pain. With Bynum I think the Lakers will return to the finals.

But then I'm a Laker fan so who knows? LOL

Everyone in the L'Eastern confernence will be gunning for the Celtics. They are this seasons "Lakers", in the aspect that everybody will try and bring their A game against them.

The Lakers, even though they had a replacement for Young "Drew", were never at full strength for the simple fact that Gasol is not a CENTER.

This season Gasol will be playing his NORMAL position and Young Drew will be back at his.

Drew is a lane glogging nightmare. And it wont surprise me if he makes at least 2nd Team Defense if healthy.

What people have to understand is that this Finals team wasnt at full strength. The injuries to Ariza and Bynum were not good. Yet.......

Bynum doesnt get injured, no Gasol.

But now that we are back at full strength it will be tough for anyone including the Celtics to beat us in a 7 game series. Pierce had his 15 minutes of fame. Good for him.

The Celtics will absolutely have to have the best record in the NBA if they have a chance. And I dont think that will happen. Not with the greatest player of this generation playing in the Western Conference.

alaskanballa is 100% correct.

It's on the defensive end that the Lakers need to upgrade, those losses to Memphis, Sacremento, and Charlotte last year are prime examples.

If they stand pat, it will be tough to get back to the finals, since the West will be even more competitive with an improved Portland and Sacremento.

If they end up in the finals against the Celtics again, the homecourt advantage and defensive styles will determine the outcome.

I believe the team has got to make defense the number one priority this season. They must become a defense minded team first. I have not doubt they'll go deep into the playoffs. Drew will help the interior defense tremendously as well as rebounding. Dont underestimate how good they're going to be with Gasol and Drew up front.
Defense is the only thing getting them back there.
I believe they realize how important it is to play it for the entire game now and not just when they need to. If they can get into that mindset for a full game, I like their chances to get back. But it must begin on the defensive end.

Here's the thing...

Bynum's presence automatically makes Kobe a better defender, Gasol a better help defender, Sasha a better perimeter defender, Ariza a better transition defender, and Odom a better rebounder.

The defensive mindset was already in place. The problem was that Bynum was never on the court to establish that.

I must repeat what Kobe said, "With Bynum we're a championship team."

And the answer to your questions are yes, yes, yes, and yes.

justanotherfan , Andrew Bynum proclaimed himself completely healthy and expects to be better than ever when training camp begins Sept. 30.

With him well, do you think the Lakers' roster good enough to pull it off and be a champ?

alaskanballa, Bynum has been training, getting stronger and he say, "He is 100 percent ready"

He also said, "I think I'm the only guy who wants the season to start, like, tomorrow, you know what I mean? But I just can't wait to play with the fellows."

I am hoping that no matter which team they will end up in the finals against , the Lakers will have more wins and get the homecourt advantage. Of course with Kobe's leadership and defensive / offense styles will get them the title.

I have not doubt that the number one priority in Kobe's mind right now is for the whole team playing good defense/ offense to go back on top again.
