In your eyes, what is your sport Idol look like?
Mar 02, 2007 | 8:02AM | report this

As surprising as it may seem, Kobe is always going to be popular in the world of the public and business. While he focuses on his game to help himself and team mates to a championship:

In the community of Bloggers: Most judged him harshly or viewed him as selfish, ball hog, spoiled superstar, great player, and much more to heckle him for the rest of his career.

In the community of business: As always, Popularity and Dollar sign.

In your eyes, what is your sport Idol look like?

In my little brother’s eyes, THE IS: is always going to be Kobe.  Reason: Because he live up to his dreams Being the best of the best, and just being plain KOBE:

Kobe at 18 years, five months, five days became the youngest starter in NBA history. He also the first Lakers to set a record with 31 points in the Rookie Game and won the Slam Dunk Contest. That was great.

The only wrong about Kobe in his eyes is: When the NBA advertised the contest as a battle between Michael Jordan and the heir apparent to his throne, Kobe didn’t handle the situation well. He drew the line of teammates by hogging the ball through many quarters and dishing teammate Karl Malone. That was wrong.

Because of that All-Star performance, the big problem started of his sports life. Then, the Kobe and Shaq not see eye to eye ONLY Because Kobe is dangerous in crunch time and Phil Jackson tell his players to abandon the triangle and just get the ball to Kobe to win the game. There's nothing wrong with that, right? a win is a win right?

In your eyes, what is your sport Idol look like?

thought-inspiring words you write... thanks

in my eyes, my sports idol is David "The Admiral" Robinson...

my reasons are because though he's a sports idol and was the face of the franchise for many years, his leadership and integrity extended well beyond the basketball court.

his profession to his Faith and his example of being a good citizen makes him more than just a sports idol, and while athletes shouldnt be judged on what goes on in their private life, david robinson has managed to achieve a very respectable reputation both on and off the court.

Ted Williams - baseball, US Marine
Pat Tillman - football, US Army

Plenty of others that took time away from sports to honorably serve their country in time of need.

I could mention two. Hines Ward, for being a true give it all you have athlete. While numbers aren't as great as some, he's always ready for the catch; or able to help someone else get through. And never has there been anyone that could take a brutal and/or cheap shot and get up with a huge smile. Derek Jeter- same thing. Always smiles and brings an attitude of "glad to be here" every game.

Thank you both for your comment s, david1david and kdjs.
David Robinson, is he the one who said, “Winning a championship doesn't make you a better person” an Olympic basketball player and in US Navy?
We heard a lot about Ted Williams from pawpaw, He had piloted my 2great grandpa in ww11 and he was one of the game’s greatest hitters 1941 rights?
Pat Tillman, a professional football star who joined the Army Rangers and was killed in action in Afghanistan, he will be remember as one of the greatest American heroes.

Isn't that amazing. You see Kd and you see Ak. Like watching Ratty and Rattier.

My sports hero in basketball would be anyone that could get the Lakers back on their feet and holding up that title again. I'm getting hungry again.

he stands about six foot nine. bonde hair. sometimes in a mullet. has a messed looking pinky finger. he shoots a basketball like nobodys business. dives for loose balls. takes big shots. makes big shots. he goes to the basket. he crashes the boards. plays team defense. wins championships. wears number 33. that's what a hero looks like.

Tillman...great choise...too bad he was killed by our own.
K. Garnett...way beyond public service demands from the NBA...gave 1.2 million of his own to help Katrina relief.

I'd give Kobe props if I could just get over that Colorado lie and buy out. Doubt that I ever will tho.

Thank you Mr. MeanDovine for your comments….Michael Jordan is one of the greatest player and leading scorer in basketball history. Tyrone” Flash” team can be the champion again this year. Walter Payton was the best……paw paw say, he was the only player missed a game and that was in his early years.

Dr. J and Dan Marino. They both took their respective sports to new heights.

Dr. J brought pure athleticism to the game and highlighted the 2 and 3 in the NBA. Marino brought about the 2nd passing revolution in the NFL. Both are still huge influences on the games of today.

In my eyes, my American Sports Idol right now is Ronny Turiaf of the LAKERS.

He had a heart transplant and defied the odds and came back to play in the NBA. Despite his minutes, or lack of, he continues to bring energy and hustle off the bench and plays a key role in the Lakers' overall defensive scheme. He plays hard for little money and his attitude on the bench is great for team chemistry.

In my eyes, my American Sports Idol of all time is Joe Montana, because he is the ultimate team winner.

Montana was as cool and as clutch as they get. Just as clutch as Tiger and Jordan. Just not as public. A master of his craft. Like a Jedi, in the way he dominated the opposition.

Underage: Dr. J is Julius Erving. One of the greatest players to ever play in the NBA. Played for the 76ers in the 80's and was an integral part of their 82 championsip team. Still considered one of the greatest NBA teams of all-time.

Dr. J is not Joe Namath.

Not a downplay on your comment, just wanted to give you some info.

Quit making idols out of men you really know nothing about. Try making idols out of people whose lives you have actually experienced. Though as for a favorite athlete I would have to say Reuben Gardner,Tiger Woods, Oscar DeLaHoya and David Robinson.

pumpdude needs to get over his obsession about Kobe and Colorado. The majority of America has. It was reported that Coca Cola just passed over Lebron and picked Kobe for a new 30 million dollar contract for a new Soft drink Coke is about to spring on us. Kobe is having the best shooting % of his career, up to 29.0 a game and still has his team in contention despite injury to his entire forwards and two centers.

Kobe Bryant is a superstar, but He is not and will never Be an Idol.
Anyone who beats up women is considered a thug, and for that single reason, is why there is so much contraversy on blogs and in the public eye about him.
sports Stars who should be considered idols are guys like Marvin Harrison, Tim Duncan, and Dirk Nowitski. Class guys that produce and keep their mouths shut and condtribute something back to the community without Ever looking for any praise for doing it.!!

what I would lke to know is where that you get your information that he beat up that woman? There was never any report of that and even the D.A. prosecuting the case went on TV and said the claim of "backdoor"(remember this is a child's blog here) were simply gossip, that it never happened.

Thank you Mr. Dusty for having our back…..I have to repeat what pawpaw told us to my litle brother . Kobe Bryant is a player who doesn't wilt or choke under pressure, a well-rounded person and just do his jobs so well. He does so much in giving back to the community and to his fans. He is a very good basketball player because he works hard," “Every play, he make, you wonder, 'What's next?' “Last night (03/02/07) was their worst performance in franchise history. They hang thier hats on thier youthfulness.

Thank you...Texascudaguy…We looked up in our school dictionary this word…. IDOL is a sport person or a celebrity who achieves widespread popularity and fame readily recognized as having some well-known significance or embodying certain qualities. We been taught not to do what our Idol done with their personal life…we have to create our personality and be what we want to be.

Dear Dusty,

"I didn't have sex with that woman!"

"I did have sex with that woman! She wanted it! Here my darling wife, will a 3 million dollar rock make up for it?"

"I should have paid her off like Shaq always does. Hey! Thats what I'll do!"

"poof" no more trial.

Idol? sugar coat it anyway you want..not in my world..is he on your "thug" list?
