Seattle Football, tough week, but I'm back Baby!!
Oct 08, 2007 | 4:31PM | report this

Ultimate Sports Guy here,

So my Dawgs had a bye and I was scared to pick the Hawks considering my predictions haven't been the most stellar (I guess it wouldn't have mattered). Overall it was a tough sporting weekend for the beautifully rainy Seattle area. But hey, at least my hometown team, those Oklahoma Sooners, bounced back and got a great W against Bevo and those Longhorns.

But back to my Seattle boys. The Huskies didn't get a loss which I guess is a plus in my book, and Jake Locker got a weekend to rest, figure out the last couple of weeks, and take in his first year at quarterback. I know he hasn't been the savior as everybody expected, but we gotta break down his first season. The teams he's played so far had more wins combined than the Kansas City Royals baseball team (I swear that's impressive, trust me). Jake Locker has gone up against potentially 2 number 1 teams in the nation (Ohio State and USC) and a UCLA team that after this week is far from a powerhouse, but had the athletes to be one.

So this previous weekend was time for a little rest and recuperation as the Huskies prepare to play up and comping Arizona State (#14), Oregon (#9), another potential #1 in California, and still undefeated Hawaii (#16). The schedule other than that is far from a cake walk considering Pac-10 play is tough throughout the conference.

With all this being said, it's go time for the Huskies. Arizona State in the desert is tough but this is a make or break game for the Dawgs. I'm telling you, once Jake Locker starts throwing the ball more like Roger Staubach rather than Roger Clemens pitcher and once Louis Rankin stops watching the extended DVD of Michael Flatley "Lord of Dance" the Dawgs will be just fine. Now if we could just get those Hawks back on track Seattle might not be so rainy after all.

Until next time,

USC Football
Sep 27, 2007 | 4:10PM | report this

Ultimate Sports Guy here,

Now I must first tell all of you that I am a Husky fan till I die.  I love all Husky sports. Football, basketball, baseball, a little girls volleyball (national champs), soccer, and any other purple and gold sports.  But I am here today to discuss another Pac-10 team: The USC Trojans.

USC has been ranked number one all year, with LSU getting a percentage of first place votes on occasion (which were based on SC not playing that week).  Anyway, I am here to praise this SC football team, a team that will win their 12th national championship this year, win their 37th conference title, increase their All-American count to 150 all-time, and name their 8th Heisman trophy winner.

Playing in arguably the best conference in the nation, even though the SEC looks amazingly strong, USC will regain their immortal status beating top 25 teams such as Oregon, Cal, and ASU along the way.  The Notre Dame beating will be hard to watch and the championship game against LSU won't be as close as everybody hopes.  I mean come on baby, with Pete Carroll calling plays like he's playing NCAA College Football how can you not root for these guys!!!

To those that argue USC shouldn't and won't be ranked #1 all season should watch some game film.  We got a back-up running back in Stafon Johnson that would be a stud on any other team in the nation.  We got John David Booty who has settled down and learned that he has clones of Mike Williams and Dwayne Jarret in Patrick Turner and Vidal Hazelton.  Not to mention Fred Davis who has become one of Booty's favorite target.  Davis, a TE, could catch a humming bird while getting hit by a 18-wheeler and still stay on his feet to scamper into the endzone.  And this is just their offense.  I won't even write about their defense in hope of not scaring the children reading this blog.

So their you have it.  The team of the year, the team of the decade, the team of all teams.

And with all this being said.....Dawgs 31 Trojans 30.

Go Dawgs!

Till next time,

Noel Devine Baby!
Sep 18, 2007 | 12:23AM | report this

Ultimate Sports Guy here,

So, the time has come...well not completely.  For those of you that love sports as much as me you must have seen this kid Noel Devine and his High School highlight tapes from You Tube or any recruiting site on the internet.  Well, he's finally made it to college.  After rumors of Deion Sanders trying to adopt him among other stereotypical rumors that float around he now plays for the 5th ranked West Virgina Mountaineers.

Devine is playing second fiddle to two heisman candidates, which actually could bode well for him.  Behind Steve Slaton and QB Pat White, Devine has averaged 15.1 yards per carry.  I mean this kid had 2 carries for over 120 yards last week and ended up with 5 carries for over 130.

To those of you who haven't seen him play he looks as close to a (maybe this is a comment that shouldn't be made) a Reggie Bush/Barry Sanders-esque running back.  I mean this guy makes cuts and then instantly is back to full speed.  He doesn't stop moving his feet.  He doesn't stop looking down the field.  He is the man!!!

So, if you haven't had a chance to see him run, take a look at him. Noel Devine baby!! And if you think he is a young star take a look at 13 year old Cody Paul.  Too good!!

Till next time,

Saints vs. Colts! It's NFL Time!
Sep 06, 2007 | 5:34PM | report this

 Ultimate Sports Guy here,

Since I have posted about the M's frequently the last couple of days, and they have lost every time I have posted about them, I have decided to stray from the baseball diamond.  Besides, it's football time baby! NFL has arrived.

With a great way to start the season, we have the Super Bowl Champs vs. arguably one of the more fun teams to watch, the Reggie Bush/Drew Brees led New Orleans Saints.

The Saints came out with a new attitude two years ago and haven't looked back since.  The Chargers and them could have the two best offenses in the league and it will be interesting watching how the Colt's D deal with it.

On the other side of the ball I am not very worried about the Colts scoring against the Saints D.  I'm not saying the Saints D is dreadful, but Peyton Manning isn't going to slow down from his last year's performance.

So get excited, cuz you all know I am.  I'm talking more excited than the XFL and Slamball combined (just joking).  So, a little Flight of the Conchords for y'all...

It's football....It's football time. That's what you're trying to say you're trying to say let's get down to football it's football time.

Till next time,

Mariners vs. Yankees: Ok I was very wrong last time...
Sep 04, 2007 | 5:44PM | report this

Ultimate Sports Guy here,

Ok, I'll be the first to admit it my man Jeff Weaver, or the M's in general didn't really come through last week.  I guess that's understatement.  But, they have a change to redeem themselves.  After getting swept by the Angels, and the Yanks sweeping the Red Sox (what a horrible week), the M's now have a three game set with the first place wild card Yankees.  With one shellacking under our belt, the M's put themselves one game back with two left in the series.

Tonight, game two has arrived.  As of right now it is 1-0 Yanks in the 5th.  Both Horacio Ramirez and CM Wang are pitching competitive games.

Let me tell you what needs to happen: The M's need to take this game and tomorrow's game from the Yankees.  They then need to win the next 19 or 26 including sweep the Angels in Anaheim.  This would put them in contention for the AL West ship' and hopefully, barring the Yankees don't run off their next 26 games in the W category, a smooth victory in the Wild Card if needed.

The Problem: The M's have one of the tougher stretches and only have 1 day off the rest of the season.  Included in the end of the season are series with the Indians, Tigers, Angels, A's, and the inconsistent Rangers (They did score 30 runs this year).

The Solution and Prediction: The M's will finish off winning in the upper teens.  They will finish 2 or 3 up on the Yankees and 2 or 3 back of the Angels.

So there you have it.  Another prediction about the M's.  Let's all hope that I don't jinx them again.  It's almost playoff time baby!!

Till next time,

College Football at it's Best!
Sep 04, 2007 | 4:41PM | report this

Ultimate Sports Guy here,

So I was on this blog a couple of weeks ago and the question of which are you more excited for, College of Pro football came up. I really think both are so fun to watch, but ended up siding with the NFL. Now, after watching College Football on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday I have to change my mind. Come on! How good were all those games?

First, we have the largest upset in college football history. Michigan falls to App State in the Big House. Unheard of! California vs. Tennessee in a back and forth battle leaving the Golden Bears on top. Maybe Tennessee isn't a very good tackling team, but Cal's offense looked pretty amazing. Everybody who touched the ball ran sub 4.4, had a 40 inch vertical, and could stop on a dime. We also had my UW Huskies and the stud Jake Locker destroy the mighty Syracuse Orange. So Syracuse isn't say USC, but it was still an impressive win.

I haven't even mentioned Colt Brennan's first half 416 yard, 6 TD performance, Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky's 4 TD, 250 total yard game, or even the emotional win from Virgina Tech.

Overall I feel good about this year's college football scene. I need another Saturday in my life!! Can't wait for the season to get going...not to mention we got Sundays to look forward to as well.

Until next time,
