Everytime I look at Travis Kvapil, my mind twists into a state of perplextion: how does this guy not have a sponsor?
Sure, he had Northern Tool and Equipment on board at Talladega, then Discount Tire at Richmond and LaFayette Ford at Darlington, but those were all last minute arrangements. I mean, this is a guy who sits 18th in points after 11 races, with three top-10's including an impressive 8th at Darlington, which may have been a top-5 hadn't it been for slow pit stops.
His average finish this season is a solid 20th, certainly enough to please a sponsor. There are plenty of drivers who are lower in points who have full-time sponsors: Michael Walrtip (Average finish 29th), Reed Sorenson (Average finish 28th), Casey Mears (Average finish 24th)
Kvapil is higher in points than three of the six champions of this century. Kvapil is 18th, while Bobby Labonte, the 2000 series champion, is 19th, Matt Kenseth, the 2003 series champion, is 20th, and Kurt Busch, the 2004 series champion, is 22nd. All three of those drivers are guaranteed rides after this year, while Kvapil's fate rests in how well he races and is able to get sponsorship.
If I had the millions of dollars at my disposal, I would invest them in Kvapil, and I don't see why big organizations can't summon the money to sponsor a driver that will certainly increase their exposure as his performance on the track continues to improve. It'll be a shame if Kvapil ends up losing his ride because of this, because he is better than at least half the starters each and every weekend, and has shown more than just potential but talent in the past few races.
Well, I'm out, until tomorrow that is, when I unveil this a special edition of Nascar Power Rankings.
Great post, TH, it's a shame he's not getting more attention. Nice to see a Yates car doing so well, maybe their marketing dept. needs to get on the ball...
Tyler - We are talking alot of money to sponsors a cup car. Most companys would love to be on that car but most company have to know a year in advance to prepair that amount of money for advertising. The companys that can do it are on a car already.
If Dave Blainy misses another race his sponsors would have wished they could have the money back to sponsor Travis.
BTW - I have put you down on the list of drivers for the GGW Racing Open Late Model Tour. Your car is done. Check it out. cheerssss
Hello, I'm Tyler Head. I live in Utica, NY and currently attend Ilion Jr. Sr. High School. I'm a senior this year (woot! haha), and I'm persuing a career in Computer Hardware design, or Journalism... I guess I'm undecided, lol. I enjoy a lot of sports, with my favorite being NASCAR. My favorite driver is Jeff Gordon, I even made a fansite. As much as I enjoy NASCAR, I also like Baseball, Football, and College Basketball.
