What a Finish!
Jul 07, 2007 | 8:31PM | report this

A picture is worth 5 thousanths of a second.

Sunday's Pepsi 400 started with fireworks when race favorite Tony Stewart tangled with teammate Denny Hamlin while the two where running 2nd and 1st. Several wrecks throughout the night, but when it came down to 20 laps to go, all the cars, which had struggled just to run single file all night, ran side-by-side and three wide going for the win.

It came down to Kyle Busch, who is trying to prove himself  for next year, and Jamie McMurray, who won his only race in his 2nd career start back in 2002, coming down to the line for the win. 0.005 seconds seperated Jamie McMurray from Kyle Busch, as he won just his second career race on the famed Daytona International Speedway.

The finish was tied for 2nd as the closest finish since Nascar started using electronic scoring. It tied with Dale Earnhardt's win over Ernie Irvan at Talladega in 1993, and the closest finish ever was in 2003 when Ricky Craven edged out Kurt Busch at the line.

Here are the top-5 finishers from this thrilling race:

1. Jamie McMurray

2. Kyle Busch

3. Kurt Busch

4. Carl Edwards

5. Jeff Gordon

Good job Tyler.. I wasn't aware Tony and Hamlin was in first and second when they tangled but had distracting company over at the time so i didn't get to see that part. Gotta start locking my doors during the race.

O.K., I want blog it. But I'll say it.

What kind of team mate accuses his team mate of stopping on the track while leading thus causing a collision? Tony Stewart just sucks. It is never his fault.

I dare any Stewart fans to say anything about anybody. I don't want to hear it. You have no credibility.

Tony Stewart just ran all over Hamlins #### while he was in second himself. Why? What was the hurry? Dumb ####.

I wasn't going to say any thing till I got a chance to see the replay of the incident with Tony and Hamlin. Took a look on that and his comments afterwards.

It seems that Tony didn't like Hamlin ahead of him and was impatient. Both seemed to be at speed and I do not think Hamlin slowed down unless Tony made him loose by being so close. Tony just rear ended him for no apparent reason.

The comments Tony made in the garage was a bit of rubbish expounding on Hanlin's lack of experience. Naturally the press went to Hamlin to report what Tony had said and Hamlin appeared to handle the interview better than Tony although a bit subdued.

Had I been Hamlin, I would have kicked Tony's rear end all over that garage for his actions and remarks but he remained either calm or shocked about the whole thing.Got to give the kid credit for keeping his cool. Wonder how Gibbs took this??

The sad part about this is it twarted several drivers chances of making a good showing in the race with Dale Jr being one and others..

Everybody talks about Montoya ####ing but I think Stewart is more dangerous taking out his own team member and others with his anger and atitude.

I think it is time for Gibbs to put a leash on Tony or NASCAR should. The guy is really becoming a flipping jerk behind the wheel with his road rage.

You got it. Hamlin was a pro in the interview. Gibbs needs to reign Stewart in. If he doesn't, Home Depot will do it for him.

I've said it a dozen times in these very blogs. Tony Stewart is NOT a team player. He's selfish, whiny, and just plain dangerous. When any driver causes a spinout or a wreck Stewart is the first to chastise them and insult their driving ability (as if every person starts out in cup racing) but he causes just as many accidents as any rookie on the track. Over the past 2 or 3 years I've gone from thinking Stewart was mildly amusing to just plain loathing him. Next time he wins a race I hope someone greases the fence for him. Then we'll see how high the #### can climb.

Tony Stewart = the reason why Dale Jr was never going to end up at Gibbs

People can say what they want about them being mates and all but Tony would never have wanted him there (and Dale would not have fitted in either...he's too nice, lol).

Great finish for the fans, great for Jamie, great for Ford....and did anyone else pick up the commentators mistake? Second victory for Ford this season my arse!

hey cool, the profanity thingy on my work PC doesn't pick up the word 'arse' (yet it does pick up '####').....gotta love those loopholes! :P
