Already thinking about...

The 2008 draft.

Too many defensive injuries this year.  Too many injuries in general.  The Bills are basically done at his point in the year- it's a lost season, but I'm over it.

I think the Bills are looking at a bright fututre.  J.P.'s injury gives the Bills a great excuse to play Trent Edwards THIS year, and then bench him (to avoid completely embarrassing Losman.)  The O-Line IS very close to actually being NFL-caliber for the first time in a decade.  I think the loss of Melvin Fowler for the majority of the preseason set back their gelling still- but they're better than last year and improving.  They've got a keeper in #### who has been basically the only bright spot.  Roscoe Parrish is really coming up and could be the needed balance w/ Lee Evans.  Defensively I think McCargo could be the penetrating Tackle this scheme demands.  Posluzny is the next Shane Conlan.  The Safeties are both going to be long term stars in this league.

Now into the draft.  There are quite a few major needs on this team yet.

Shutdown corner: Nate Clements over Chris Kelsay.  Sad but true- move on.

Attacking Tight End: Keep Kevin Everett in your prayers, but his injury really limited what the offense can do.

Weakside Linebacker: Keith Ellison is not the answer here, nor is Coy Wire.  This certainly needs to be addressed in the draft, but not with the ifrst pick...

Scat back: Could Fred Jackson fill this role?  I'm not sayiing to usurp ####'s role, but as a reprieve.  This is a position alot of the best teams have well covered.  (See Joseph Addai in Indy and Kevin Faulk in NE)

Defensive Tackle:  Good God, the Bills still can't stop the run.  Forget slicing and penetration, I want to see some push.  Some good old, Pat Williams, Ted Washington, Sam Adams push.

Right now- the NBills first round pick (number 3?) should be Glenn Dorsey from LSU.  I don't know everything about him.  I don't know his off-the-field character.  I don't know that he's the perfect fit for the Big Run-stuffer.  All I know is that he's the best player (by far) on the best college defense (by far.)  He seems to be the right fit early in the draft for what the Bills need.
