GlenTaylor You're An Id*iot There's No Other Way To Explain It .... !
Mar 20, 2008 | 2:31PM | report this

You  know  there's   something   wrong  when  a  former  player  is caught  in the  cross  hairs   of   an    owner's  rant  as  to  his  team's  malaise.   It  can't   have  been  missed   by  anyone   who's   noticed   the  itinerant  rantings   of  Timberwolves'  owner     Glen  Taylor  and  much  to  the chagrin of   others   over how  he  felt that  the  franchise  was  let    down   by    Kevin  Garnett.

Glen Taylor owner of the Timberwolves and former player Kevin Garnett

In happier  times   Taylor  seen here   with   former   player  Kevin Garnett.  picture  courtesy of  nba.com/minnesotatimberwolves/kevingarnett .....

Less  I'm   mistaken   Taylor  and  GM  Kevin McHale   all   but   lost  all of  the  goodwill   the franchise   built up  within  the  Minneapolis   area    when  they agreed  to  trade   the  much   beloved  star   to the Boston  Celtics And   though  this  young   team  is struggling    to determine  a  path  for  itself   within  the  league.  I  find  it  somewhat  infantile   for   Taylor  to be  now  criticizing  the  player.    Was  the  time   that   Garnett  spent  there  in  Minnesota  not   profitable   for  all  concerned ?   OK  so   you   didn't   so you  didn't  fulfill  your  goal   of  winning  an  NBA  championship. But  it  wasn't for  the  lack  of   trying  on  Garnett's   path  during  his  tenureship  there with the T'wolves.

Minnesota Timberwolves' Kirk Snyder, front, looks for someone to pass to after beating Memphis Grizzlies' Rudy Gay, back, to a loose ball during the third quarter of an NBA basketball game Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Minneapolis. Minnesota won 98-94.    Kirk  Snyder  of  the  T'wolves tries  to  avoid    Rudy  Ga*y  of  the  Memphis  Grizzlies   who  appears   in  the   background.    picture   courtesy  of   ap/photo/Tom Olscheid......

It  can  be said that though  the team  has  faltered    it  was of   their  own  making  as  to the  lamentable    position  that  they  now find themselves   in.  As for  McHale   we've   not   heard   a  response  from him as to  his  owner's   childlike   rant.    For  Taylor to    suggest  tht   Garnett  tanked    the  season   by sitting    out   5  games    because  of  an   injury    is  asinine   and  not deserving of a  reply  from the  player ,  himself.   I  suspect that  Taylor  has  forgotten   that the   roster    surrounding   the   player   wasn't  all  that  impressive   to  begin   with.  But  then  that's what  you   get   in  a  hiree  of   McHale's   supposed  pedigree.  His assessment  of   NBA   talent    is   broderline   suspect  at  best and  only marginally  worse than   that  of      his   counterpart  in  New  York.    Though we knew   off  the  bat the   New  York  Knicks   were   going   to be  terrible  this  season  anyway.    As   to  how  bad   I    don't  believe  that anyone  believed  that  they'd be  this   lamentable.

Minnesota Timberwolves' Rashad McCants, right, shoots over Memphis Grizzlies' Hakim Warrick during the third quarter in an NBA basketball game Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Minneapolis. McCants finished with 19 points as Minnesota won 98-94.   Rashard McCants  of the  Minnesota  Timberwolves  tries  to   shoot   over   the  outsretch  hands  of  the  Grizzlies'   Hakim Warrick.   picture  courtesy  of  ap/photo/A J Olmscheid.....

In  all   honesty  though   whatever   gave anyone  the  idea   that  Isaiah  Thomas   was   ever any  good as  a  coach   let  alone   a  great    assessor   of  NBA   personnel  ?  Much  of  the  same   can  be  said  of  McHale    himself    as  he  was  skirting   under  the   radar  of  not  having  to  operate  in  major   market    in  the NBA.   The  veracity  of    Taylor's  argument   is  about  palpable and  palatable  as  asking   someone  to    take  a  swift  knee to the  groin.    For the  reciever   it'll  be  painful and   for the  aggressor   of the  action    it only  goes   to  show   how  infantile  they  are.

MINNEAPOLIS - MARCH 19: Rashad McCants #1, Chris Richard #32, and Corey Brewer #22 of the Minnesota Timberwolves share a laugh on the bench during the game against the Memphis Grizzlies on March 19, 2008 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The  Twolves'   record   in  the  Northwest   Division    stand   at an  abysmal   17-50  some   27.5  games   behind   the  Utah  Jazz.  Only      the   morbidly  moribund   Seattle  Supersonics   has    a   worse   record   within  the division.  But  when   you're  witnessing   the  play     within  the  division   you've  only  got  to  appreciate   how   bad  things   have   become  for  the  likes  of   the  T'wolves and   Sonics.

MINNEAPOLIS - MARCH 19: Randy Foye #4 of the Minnesota Timberwolves gets a double double with 10 rebounds and 12 points against the Memphis Grizzlies on March 19, 2008 at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. About  the  only   thing   that  the   team  has  in  its   favor  as  of  now is  that  it's   youth  based and  laden  with  a  varying  degree  of  talent.   And  at the  core   of   its   element  are  Al  Jefferson  the  leading   scorer  on  the   team,  Randy  Foye,  Rashard  McCants  and   Corey   Brewer.  Whether   or   not   coach  Randy  Wittman  can   steer   this    team   in  the    right  direction  is   open  to   question.

As  for  McHale   he's  sitting   atop  of   this   curent   mess   and  on   appearance   his   position    would   seem  safe   for  now.  But  only   Glen  Taylor    seems   to   think    that    much  of    the  franchise's   problems   seem  to  stem    from  what  he  believes   was   Garnett's  sitting    out  the  final   5  games   of  the   season.  Pity    that  he  and  McHale  didn't  think   about   surrounding    Garnett   with    the    talent   required   to  make   the     team   a      real  contender.
