As unfortunate as the death of Redskins' player Sean Taylor is it's saddening to see that his death is used as for political as well as social gristle. And whatever the journalist Jason Whitlock may have to say on the matter in no way does it address the real issues besides one of the great social ills that this country faces.
It's not as if crimes that've committed inside a race is anything new. It's being going on within the country for years. And to place it all on the genre of hip hop culture is insane ! One would think that there have not been more heinous crimes committed that haven't been attributed to other genre's, be it artistic or otherwise. And this situation is not only endemic to the African American population. It may well be heightened by the fact that many are using this in some form for political gain or otherwise.
Long before the term hip-hop culture was brought within our midst there was black on black crime. So for Whitlock to be jumping all over this and assuaging us as if it were anything new does nothing to allude what the real underlying problems here are. If anything it's one of disrespect and disdain for human life and nothing else. Instead of it being about what's said by about a rap artist as a way of expressing themselves .
There have been those who've alluded to the fact that this may well have been payback for Taylor doing someone wrong. And by his original actions vengeance was sought and his death was seen as equitable for whatever act he committed. That if anything is pure speculation that has been put out there.
If the rap culture of today is behind the murder of Sean Taylor then can someone explain to me then what it was that was behind the heinous acts committed by Charles Manson and his followers ? That too was it not a crime just as vile as the one committed against Taylor ? The fact of the matter being here was that Sharon Tate and the other victims were slain also within a house in the Hollywood Hills. And it was known that Manson himself would religiously listen to various forms of music from rock & roll to neverending chants of Indian music whilst drugged out on various opiates.
The real problem here is that we're obfuscating the real responsibility and using a genre or underground sub-culture to use as a crutch to allude to something we chose not to explain with any great emphasis. Taylor was a victim of a heinous crime and we're seeking to psycho analyze the reasons behind it rather than seeing it for what it is. And unfortunately it'll be used as just another statistic to parade infront of the masses to state how violent the African American race can be amongst its own kind. If the assailant or assailants behind the crime happen to be African American then so be it.
The issue that has to be dealt with is how we go about punishing those who commit these crimes and how best to avoid these instances where it beomes prevalant within our society. It's all well and good to opine on what one perceives is something of genuine concern to all. But when at the end of the day you've got nothing new to say on the subject it doesn't change a thing one iota. If the discussion on the topic is to be constructive then let it be done in such a way where it deals with the matter not from a point of view where it only alludes to one race of society but to all of it. Because murder isn't just an issue of race as it knows no color ! It's an issue of people going out and taking another's life with such disdain that the perpetrator of the act feels impowered over that victim. That's something that Whitlock and others have failed to realize and address . And only seek make light of that matter in order to fullfil whatever social calling they have on the topic at the time. It's a view that mightn't be shared by many but it happens to be true.

Based on yesterday's display by the Miami Dophins would it be fair to say that they're now the worst team in the AFC ? Or might it be more fittingly said the worst team in the whole of the NFL ?

Based on the dislpay by Cam Cameron's team it's hard to see them sinking any lower than they already have done and not bring the game into disrepute. Their unravelling and comprehensive beating at the hands of the New England Patriots places the franchise in the unwanted situation of being the only team in the AFC without a win and standing alongside the St Louis Rams as being the only teams in the entire NFL without a win. One can summize that based on the display by the Dolphins it'll be harder for them to come by their first victory than it will be for the St Louis Rams. Even if it is marginally so. The Dolphins' next game will be against the NY Giants. Whilst the Rams will be playing against a rejuvenated Clevelnd Browns team.

Stranger things have happened but one can't really envisage the Dolphins upending the Giants at this moment in time. Especially a Giants' team that seems to have finally found its stride. It'd appear also that the younger Manning is now playing with some sort of confidence that's bolstered by a defense that's playing with such stealth and ferocity. But what can we make of the Dolphins and they're being mired in mediocrity. We all saw that last under the tutelage of Nick Saban that they weren't going anywhere . And with Saban departing sheepishly much like a coward or a thief in the night. So enters Cam Cameron and the buffoonery continues. It's like watching a silent slapstick movie as it unfurls infront of our very eyes. It's not as if we hadn't been forewarned as to what would happen this season. We'd witnessed the merry go round in succession of changing the quarterbacks from Trent Green to Daunte Culpepper , then demise and cutting of Culpepper who ended up plying his wares in Oakland with the Raiders. As of this moment one can ask who's got the better end of that deal. As the Raiders haven't exactly as of now proved themselves to be world beaters under the helmsmanship of Culpepper.

The Rams themselves are mired in their own mediocrity that can be said to resemble a vessel that has had it bow blown away. There's no leadership on the team and under coach Scott Linehan it doesn't even look as he knows how to solve all of their underlying problems. One can presume that quite possibly season's end if not before he'll be shown the door. The game that they'd once been known for the greatest show on turf has all but disappeared. And now has been replaced by something akin to the slowest show on turf as brought to you by an aging bunch of receivers an underperforming , oft injured quarterback and a defense likened to geriatrics in wheelchairs who couldn't catch their own shadows.

Linehan himself is at a loss to explain why it is the team is playing so badly. But when a team is playing with such little conviction in every facet of the game it's very easy to understand why it is they fail. Without real leadership on and off the field there can be very little else but to believe that a team will fail miserably. And that's what we're seeing from both franchsises when it comes to both the Dolphins and the Rams. And for all of the alleged coaching abilities of both Cameron and Linehan. It really is hard to see where and how either of these teams will be able to muster up a win. And one doubts that the NFL looks kindly upon a franchise forefieting a game as a way of extending sportmanship , charity let alone goodwill amongst its teams. So either one of these teams will have to play above and beyond of what they're capable of doing in order to enact a win. Or quite possibly we could well be seeing a team go winless for the first time in NFL history.

For the much heralded Dolphins it would indeed be an unwanted milestone to have attributed to a franchise that has had the league's only unbeaten regular season that ended up with a Superbowl win. But then again it has been their insufferable players of that era that've gone on each season to burst open bottles of champagane when the last unbeaten team in the NFL falls thereby letting their record stand. If that's indeed the only thing that the franchise can now celebrate as an achievement . It basically shows us all that they're not too enamoured with the present predicament of the franchise as a whole. And for the fans themselves it's as if theyre unwilling to accept the mediocrity of the team they support.
A bemused Rams' coach Scott Linehan stands on the sidelines looking up at the scoreboard reallizing that his team has suffered their seventh loss of the NFL season. picture courtesy of ap/photo/John Froschauer.......
So at a guess who'd you think is more liable to win a game first the Dolphins or the Rams ? Or more to the point which of two could go winless for the rest of the season ? Or is it quite possible that we'd rather see the likes the Rams and Dolphins play the game with such ineptitude and just laugh at both with mild hysteria ? Personally I'd like to think that it's neither but then again I'm just a fan of the game. But I do believe that one way or another this could well turn out to be a season of missed opportunities for both teams or the fact that they could both end up with the unenviable acceptance of being called two of the worst teams ever to play in the NFL.

It would appear that Bill Parcells' implicit faith in his young quarterback Tony Romo was justified as he led his team to an improbable win over the Carolina Panthers by the score of 35-14. It wasn't just Romo's play that was impressive but the fact as to how his teammates rallied around him and aided him in keeping his composure throughout the game. Although this one dipslay doesn't signal a new beginning for the Cowboys as a whole , it would suggest however that they have now found their quarterback for the future. Even the ever present and mercurial Terrell Owens would have to agree that there was more of a feel and synchronicity there between the quarterback , his receivers and backs.

The Cowboys were equally as impressive on defense as they were on offense as they held the Panthers'' offense to a miserly 14pts. Whilst all this was going on the team's featured quarterback Drew Bledsoe stood on the sidelines watching his heir apparent command this game like seasoned professional. Coming back from a 14 point deficit the Cowboys fired back with 35 unanswered points to secure the win for the beleaguered team.
It would seem somewhat fortuitous for all concerned that this turned out to be a victory . But for the veteran Bledsoe it cannot be giving him slightest pleasure to see that this could very well be the demise of his career and as the number one option for the team at quarterback. After this emphatic win there's no longer a controversy as to who should be in command to play the position. With that in mind we'll see how Romo progresses over the next couple of games to see how he deals with the rigours of the game.
Dallas Cowboys' fans are no doubt rejoicing after this win and the fact they've got a new hero which they can now idolize.
Tiki Barber has announced his impending retirement from the NFL at the end of this season. But there may well be an underlying issue concerning Barber's decision and it will hard to prove otherwise. Barber has been in the League for ten years and it has been only in the last three or four years that he's been a major productive running back. His stats bare this out and Tiki is probably wary of the fact.
Giants' running back Tiki Barber.....
If Tiki is of the opinion that this is his best way of leaving the franchise that he's served so well then many of the fans may well feel betrayed by this act. Would he not be better served by playing out the remainder of his contract ? If he has some sort of grievance with coach Tom Coughlin then this might just be his way of getting back at his coach. After all his teammate Jeremy Shockey has also voiced his indifference to Coughlin's tactics and training regimen.
Giants' coach Tom Coughlin.......
It should be countered that other than Shockey we've not really heard any grievance from any other player on the Giants' roster. Many other sports personalities have stepped away from a career at the height of their abilities without any major fallout.
Sanders performing for the Lions against the Buccaneers in '94. .........
Barry Sanders walked away from the Lions prior to the start of the 2000 season with his legacy still intact. However it was much to the dismay of the Lions' fans. As they felt betrayed by Sanders and his inability to convey his discontent with management. Sanders was unhappy with the fact that the Lions weren't showing any intent on improving the team. The same can't be said of the Giants as they've proceeded to improve the team with draft picks over the past three years. They've now got the franchise quarterback they needed in Eli Manning and with the trade of bringing in Plaxico Burress , they've strenghthened the team on the offensive side of the ball. And on the defensive side of the ball they drafted Osi Umenyiora out of Troy State. He's formed a formidable partnership with fellow defensive end Michael Strahan, a tandem that is amongst the best in the league.
Giants' Michael Strahan.......
Giants' DE ............. Osi Umenyiora
Still if this is not enough to persuade Barber to remain with the Giants then it appears nothing will. His teammates will no doubt do their best to try and persuade Barber to put off his decision for retirement at least for this year and if possible beyond the '07 season.
