After making his first NFL Pro Bowl, Marion Barber is now seeking an elite contract. The Dallas Cowboys have held preliminary talks with Barber’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and are offering a financial package in the $30 million range, according to a report in Thursday’s Dallas Morning News. Barber, however, is reportedly seeking a package between $40 million and $60 million, more in line with contracts signed by the Kansas City Chiefs’ Larry Johnson and LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers, who received $43.2 million and $60 million respectively. With that being stated. Facts are Facts. Barber was only the backup last season. Barber didn't even get a 1,000 yards even getting the most caries. Yes his bruising style and rushing touchdown totals are impressive. If I'm the Cowboys, i want Marion in the backfeild and he's the guy i want there for years to come. However, asking for LT money, without giving me LT production, is asking for too much. Texas fans rejoice. I am not the Dallas Cowboys. I have been for the team making Barber the starter, and also have lobbied for him to become the future fulltiem starter, but his numbers are a bit to pricey for me. The guy in 0-1 as starter. Thats not convincing. He lacks NFL speed. Thats not convincing. so the price needs to go down. Period.Rosenhaus and the Cowboys have a good working relationship and it is likely the two sides will reach an agreement. Barber, a restricted free agent who scored 12 total touchdowns and rushed for a career-high 975 yards - despite not starting a single game during the 2007 regular season - was tendered a $2.5 million contract by the Cowboys in February.
I would have never thought that Barber would be delivering one of these to Jerry Jones or the entire Cowboys organization.
But when you are represented by this guy. Anything is Possible.
"So what will it be Marion? 50 million??? 60 million??".......(both)
As long as he can deliver some of these. Cowboys fans worldwide will be happy or....
he will be receiving treatmeant like this guy.......
this guy..........
and this guy.......
No added pressure Marion. Continue to do this......
to become something like................well...................this guy......

Barber is no Tomlinson or Johnson. What he is however is an above average running back. But the person who's really driving this isn't Barber. It's his agent Drew Rosenhaus. He knows that in setting the bar high when it comes to the signing of clients it'll up the ante for the teams in question. As it is already he's lined up several of the top players that are in the upcoming draft. So that's all you need to know to understand what's going on. Barber'll no doubt get his money but I for one seriously doubt that it'll be in line with what he's seeking.
T.O's. agent, Chad Johnsons agent, and Barbers agent, Drew Rosenhouse. You watch he will get Chad Johnson traded. Barber is a baller, but is not an every down back.
He needs to produce before he is paid. They will do him like they did Romo. Romo earned his and was paid in the middle of the season. When he goes out and does something, he will be paid like Romo was. Jones has been burned too many times to buy the pig in the poke.
Cowboys are in the same position they were in with Romo. Around October MB3 will have established his value. Jerry Jones has NEVER had a problem paying premium money for a premium player.
It's easy to see both sides. Marion The Barbarian doesn't want a contract that will be weak and outdated in a year or two. He wants the max possible, as any player would. Jerry Jones wants to low-ball the contract as any owner would in preliminary stages.
Jerry Jones is negotiating from a seat at floor level and MB3's seat is at ceiling level. By mid October they will be at eye level. JJ will pay MB3 a premium wage, once Barber has established the mark, just as he did Romo and Flo Adams and Ellis in the last year.
Look at it from Babers eyes. What have they done to help him? The cowboys have no solid number 2 RB. Every back needs a down of two off just to stay fresh. At this point it is all Barber every down every game. The Chiefs back knew he was in for a tough year last year with no other offensesive help. So he got all the dough he could. Also to consider is the record the Cowboys set last year. The first NFC number one seed to get beat by a visiting team. Jerry and Wade paint a picture that all is good under the star. Only the players know what is going on. Maybe Barber knows something fans do not know. Number One seeds do not get beat in the NFL. Considering the Cowboys beat the Giants twice means something may have been wrong under the star. Last but not least is that fact that an injury could end a career for a RB. So if he can get a big payday up front thats better for him.
Thnx Cboy4evr - And like tophatal states, Barber will no doubt get his money.
It won't be as low as Jones is starting with and it won't be as high as Drew (Show Me The Money) Rosenhaus wants it. And it won't be any time soon. Cowboys still have to negotiate upcoming contracts for Corner, Receiver and Running Back coming to Dallas via the draft. These are quality picks that will require a few years of Salary Cap dollars and signing bonus money. MB3's not at the front of the line, yet, and he knows it.
tophatal, at thsi point in his career he is no LT nor LJ....however he is MB3 which the single toughest guy to bring down. No one breaks more tackles and the longer a guy can stay on his feet the more chances he has to score. We all know that Rosenhaus will get every penny he can for he and his clients...so thats a given...But the owner Jerry Jones is not ####...this guy prides himself on great business deals so we all know that Barber will get his money but maybe later in the year.
But as Fuji said....Jerry Jones, Rosenhaus and Barber knows that Dallas doesn't have anyone back there other than him. so maybe...just mabye Fuji is on to something here...don't count out Barber gettin the deal waaay sooner than later.
Wrinkles i agree with u on most...Barber is an everydown back, he just hasn't had every down to prove it...while i do beleive that the money is a little to pricey....i think that Barber can show that he's worth it...
Cboy4ever....its possible....
MidniteCowboy....i like that point of view...verry observative...

Are you willing to stake your life on that fact ? We all know that Jones has his machinations as to how he conducts his business. And as much as Rosenhaus will want to drive a hard bargain I can't help but think that things mightn't turn out so well. Jones may well be at this juncture still be enamored with McFadden and try to keep Barber at bargain basement price or perhaps tag him as their franchise player for one year.
Whatever the outcome one hopes that they can have a successful year. A repeat of lasy year has got to be out of the question. Perhaps Romo can leave Jessica at home more often ?
tophatal.....manu never cease to amaze me...i cannot knock what u say cuz of ur strong arguments...and thats smart....but the jessica simpson thing....its a classic....i love it..

Well at least if he's going to have there. Then why can't dress up as a cheerleader and give us a show ? I know she's gotta' look good with that rack of her's. Hell I'd tap that #### in heartbeat no questions asked !
And if her sister Ashlee wanted to be part of the fun then I'd do her for free.
Either way you look at this it's going to be a tough season for the Cowboys. If they fail to make the postseason then it'll be back to drwaing board once again for Jones and his coaching staff.
When making a deal you have to consider who has the power. If you ask me Barber has all the power. The Cowboys let Julius Jones go and now we have what a RB NOTHING. So Barber can say pay me or see the playoffs go out the window. What can Jerry say yeah I'll show you and draft a RB. RB draft picks are unproven. If you look good in college does not mean you look good in the pros. Where is Ron Dayne former number one and Heisman winner and I think Wisconsins top rusher. In Barber you have a guy if the line does its job can kill a D. I have a theory that to me is looking more and more possible the longer this takes. What if Jerry and Parcells have made a back room deal. We all know it was Parcells that saw talent in Barber. What if Jerry says you know if I trade out right Bill the fans will kill me. Bill replies yeah I know Jerry and you got that new stadium to fill. Jerry hear me out Bill what if I just stall the deal and make it seem like I cannot pay. Okay Jerry I see then I and the Fins offer a big deal and you get our number 1. Then Bill I tell the fans Barber was greedy and I could only do so much with our Cap, but at least I got the number one pick. Well Jerry that would get you McFadden and pick azzs in the seats. Jerry thats why I have the millions.
To say that Barber is not an LT that is false. What LT gives the Chargers is a back that can grind a game and make teams put 8 in the box to stop the run. Then the Chargers can pass. If you don't think Barber is a top back then go back to last year and remove every play that Barber ran. If it was only Julius Jones as t
