Rooger Goodell is the Key; But Jerry Jones is the Reason.....the cowboys offseason soap opera
Mar 28, 2008 | 8:33AM | report this

The Dallas Cowboys organization and fans have been on a rollercoaster of an offseason.  Take it from me, I should know.  It all started in the Divisional round of the playoffs with a loss to the would be SuperBowl Champion, the New York Giants.  That was a loss that rivals one of the 1994 loss to the 49ers.  Bitter and deflated were the coaches, players, fans (my God, the fans), and even the owner.  With that being the surface scratcher, the Cowboys suffered maybe the worst depletion of coaches since in the Jerry Jones era.  Beloved coaches were dropping like flies.  On top of it all, rumors were swirling about Offensive Coordinator, Jason Garrett leaving.  Oh, I could hear all the rumors like they were yesterday, kind of like a bad dream.  "Jason Garrett is going to Miami." "Offensive Coordinator Garrett is about to be the next head coach of the Falcons."  Some sources went to the extremes by referring to Garrett as the "former" O.C.  Then in comes the goat in all of this.  Jerry Jones.  You know the guy who fired Jimmy Johnson, the guy who got rid of Tom Landry,  The Guy who had the Cowboys in cap hell.  Yeah that guy. He snagged Garrett Up Making him the Highest paid O.C. in the game.  Problem solved.  Not likely.  Coaches left.  Players left.  No big Free Agent Signings.  Jerry Jones had really become the goat.  Fans were showing all the displeasment.  Randy Moss went back to the Pats.  Javon Walker Went to Oakland.  Guy after guy landed in other teams hands. Yet, the Dallas' only signing was so-called the" old and past him prime" Zach Thomas.  Fans not knowing if he'd really recovered.  No one gave Jerry Jones and credit.  Once known as the guy who signed T.O. Anthony Henry, and other big names, had once transcended back to the old J.J., from the fans point of view.  But help was on the way.  Darren McFadden, the most coveted running back in this upcoming draft was notioned to be an imminent Dallas Cowboy.  But good ole Jerry shoots that down.  So, the Cowboys fans are even more angry.  Some went as far as for calling him to step down.  Wow.  At last the Last, the last batch of quality free agent go to there respective ball clubs. Still, the Cowboys remained without any.  Now the fustration with the fans had reached a boiling point.  So high, as to a few had completely left the team fanbase.  Eat your heart out ABC Daytime.  Now this is drama.  As days passes, The NFL Draft comes closer.....and closer......and closer.  Still no signs of the Cowboys organization signing anyone.  Both the fans and staff puzzled on who exactly should be chosen in this upcoming annual player's selection.  Even the media was with a question mark.  The Cowboys are with 2 first round picks, and no one to draft.  In the fans eye, it was Mcfadden or no one.  Yes, I think I can still hear it now.  "We need a Corner."  "c'mon Jerry trade up for Mcfaden".  "Lets Get a Wideout."  "Barber needs help."  This is my favorite. "  All we need is a DB in the draft, trade Roy Willaims for Chad Johnson, and get Mcfadden."  I am glad none of us are the GM.  Then comes the new headlines.  Chad Johson wants to be traded:  He will go to Dallas .   So as time passes, the trade doesn't happen.  Tension with Jerry Jones and the Dallas fans are at an all-time high.  Yes, more tension that a Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant bout.  All of a sudden, new wave of headlines start to rumble.  Suspended Cornerback Wants to be a Cowboy:  PacMan to Dallas  .  It was nothing more than a rumor, and with all the possible "could have hads" and "we might sign" guys around.  Even the fanation of Texas shot it down.  Thats when the plot got thicker.  The organization had an in house discussion.  Once it leaked to the media, there was pandemonium everwhere.  50 percent of the fans didn't want it to happen.  The other 50 percent did.  As the story of PacMan grew, so did the chances of  the organization getting that coveted corner to match with the likes of Terrence Newman and Anthony Henry.  With a hope of suspension being lifted,  a imminent signing of a shutdown corner with return skills.  The Dallas Cowboys organization have exactly what they want.  Even though, the fans aren't all sold on the idea.  Its just like Mama always said.  "Be Careful for what u wish for, cuz u just might get it".  Well how you like that?  PacMan, if reinstated will help the Cowboys have one of the best, if not the best, Corner trio.  Fans pouted and moaned about it all season.  I was one i must say.  Now the team have three solid corners, that returner they've always wanted.  And with how much money spent?  My point exactly.  In a perfect world, the Cowboys have a H.O.F. Linebacker in Zach  Thomas, a defense that has just gotten better in the secondary.  An even better coaching staff.  A wide open scoring machine offense.  Marion Barber is the starter.  Kept the innovative O.C. and the draft hasn't even happened yet.  Imagine what could happen to an already 13-3 division champion?  Scary.  Say the Cowboys  grab that coveted running back who's name isn't McFadden.  By looking at all the NFL coverage, the Draft is loaded with talent at the running back position.  and with the 28th overall say we go  wide receiver.  Say they pick a Limas Sweed or any one else who's serviceable to us.  And remember, Terry Glenn just "may", i repeat just may be healthy enough for the long haul.  And that my friends is only the first round.  Who knows what gems lie ahead?   No, no, no.  Don't thank me.  Thank the goat, the culprit, the guy who promised the big splash.  Thank Mr. Jerry Jones.  And if all goes well, you may even want to thank Commissioner Goodell also.

If there's an ultimate goat/culprit to the Cowboys season.  Look no futher than this man.

Yeah i know, he isn't out of the water yet.  But if this Dallas team wins it all, apologies should be ringing toward this guy's way for a lifetime.

PacMan,T.O., and Tank. Oh My!!!

You state that Dallas lost coaches, but you fail to state that Dallas replaced everyone. In most cases upgrading the coach staff. Hudson Houck(great run coach) will be as good or better OL coach then Sparano. Grantham is a former DC and is an upgrade from Kacy Rodgers. Herring is equal to Pasquoloni. Campo is the former secondary, DC, and Head coach, he is a definate upgrade to Todd Bowles. Jeff Ireland was replaced with his #2. So Dallas did a great job in the turnover of the coaching staff.

Dallas did sign free agents. It just happened to be their own. They signed Adams. They franchised Hamlin. They tendered Barber & Canty.

The only players they chose not to resign were J.Jones, Reeves, N.Jones, and Davis.

The players that the fans wanted were all overpaid. Moss was never leaving NE. Walker's knees have had 2 operation in the last 3 years, but you want to give this guy a long term deal. All the players in FA were overpaid, there were no bargins.

Jerry Jones has done a good job this off season. I hope he has a good draft also. If Jones does this Dallas will be set for 2008.

It's only the dumb media and fans who think that Dallas has done nothing in the off season to improve themselves.

I'm a big time Dallas fan but today's draft made me sick. The Cowboys needs were not filled. What is the Diffrence between Jerry and Al Davis both are rich, old man that make stupid picks in the drafts. The Cowboys needed a Safety and they didn't pick one they needed a wide receiver and they didn't pick one. What about a back up Quaterback (Henne from Michigan) they past him up and continued to trade down or out. I know we have a good quaterback in Romo but what if he get hurt who will back him up. Jerry forgot how bad our secondary played against New York in the play offs I guess getting torched for a touchdown in 25 seconds before the half is ok with him. I guess Jerry doesn't want a Superbowl. I guess all the loyal fan will continue to suffer with stupidity and mediocrity.
