Who do you think you are to predict that Barry Bonds won't break Hank Aaron's home run record in 2007? I realize that the baseball world is in a bit of a post Winter Meetings lull right now, but come on, is this the best you could come up with to get some ink or digital ink if you will?
You know just as well as everyone else that Barry Bonds is going to break the record. There are only three possible things that can stop Bonds now:
1) Indictment 2) Getting Walked in EVERY At-Bat 3) He Blows Out His Knees
Bonds was coming around at the end of last season which, given that he was doing his recovering on the field and in uniform, would be appropriate given the severity of the three surgeries he had the season prior.
Whether you want to call him a cheater or not is irrelevant because Bonds is a great pure hitter, he always has been and always will be. Steroids can make you big and strong, that's great, but they can't teach you to hit a 95mph fastball. You can either hit or you can't and that's all there is to that.
Bonds WILL break Hank Aaron's record in 2007 because he is the most prolific hitter of all-time. It doesn't matter if he gets walked another 200 times in 2007 or if he doesn't have any protection in the lineup. All Bonds is going to need is for pitchers to get cocky or stupid or just plain thoughtless and leave a pitch up in the zone.
All it's going to take is 22 mistakes and then it's over, Bonds will have the record he has earned through hardwork and determination and you, Mr. Perry can enjoy dining on a big heaping plate of crow.
to be honest i don't know how dayne perry gets as much exposure as he does. if you follow his power rankings throughout the year you'd think he writes soap opera reviews. he's all over the place. he obviously hates barry bonds, and his displeasure for the giants is pretty evident as well. i'll be the first to admit barry bonds is an ####, but what he's done throughout his career cannot be ignored. did steroids make him a three time MVP before he went to the giants? the thing about steroids is everybody should be under su####ion. what makes people think anyone from randy johnson to ken griffey jr. might not have been on them as well? oh, but the historians will tell you it's ruined the integrity of the game. so that means taking greenies was o.k. or that ####lord perry making the hall of fame throwing spitballs was fine as well. forget the fact that babe ruth never played against a minority in his whole career. those numbers aren't skewed. what's the percentage of minorities in the league now? oh, did babe ruth face a guy throwing 100 mph nasty pitches in the 9th inning? i'm not knocking any player. not perry, not the babe and not willie mays for popping greenies in the duggout. that is all part of the history of the game. take it for what it is and stop trying to be history makers. if in the end you don't believe barry bonds was an exciting player to watch (steroids or not) then you must not love the game.

Bonds played poorly last season, so maybe there's a chance he doesn't break the record. I never agree with Perry on anything, except this. I think he's taking more of a cheap shot approach at Bonds expense though. Whereas I believe that Barry amid all the steroid allegations, will never be the player he was just a couple of years ago.
Bonds will break the record, but I do agree he would have had a much easier time doing it at Oakland. Trouble is, no one would pay Barry 16 million except the Giants.
This is a little off the subject but did you guys know that fox sports is know supporting hsus? It is a group that is trying to stop all hunting and fishing. How many sport guys do you know that don't at least fish?
My hat's off to you Tkatt00 for speaking up against people like this jerk of a wannabe reporter Perry, and I am just delighted to read comments like yours and from such a young person who has so much insight into our Nation's favorite past-time. I have and always will be a SF Giants fan(since I was 12) and I am a woman, and back in those boomer days of my growing up, we were expected to play with dolls and have tea parties. I too got my passion for the game in part from my dad who grew up in the Midwest like you(Nebraska) and the only games he could get on his little radio were broadcasts of the NY Giants. During my days as a young girl our summers were spent around the corner from our homes at our local grade school playing baseball, and when we didn't have enough players for a team, we'd just "shag" flies and field grounders. Let me tell you also that I could hit that little 9-inch hardball(no sissy softball for us)better than most of the boys on the block. Sometimes we'd just play at the bottom of the hill we lived on and I'd hit a no-doubt-about it dinger and the boy who happened to own said baseball told me that I had to go up that hill and fetch it..haha..I told him I'm the one who hit that homerun--You go fetch it...lol I just had to tell you that I thoroughly enjoyed reading your blog and wish you every success in your journalism career. Please feel free to read mine if you wish at Mags_Team or let's stay in touch maybe as the new 2007 baseball season progresss. I for one would love to tell that Perry jerk, "I told ya so or better still, neeener, neeener, neeener
the guy did it on steroids, babe ruth did it on beer and women-who knows if arron was clean, they didn,t have steroids in them days! My doctor gave me steroids for neck pains, in a pills form-I see where they get all that energy!
I am a 24-year-old aspiring baseball writer. I grew up to stories of Willie Mays, the Miracle Mets and the Bronx Zoo from my father. Although my playing days never amounted to much, baseball has always remained my passion. I recently moved to Boston from the midwest and I am enjoying the hype and hysteria of living at the heart of Red Sox Nation. As you can tell from my avatar the Twins are my team, a result of being born and raised in Iowa and attending college in Minnesota. If you're ever in the mood to talk baseball, or any sport for that matter, you can drop me a line or leave a comment on my blog.
