I am currently in a writing class at NYU and I am writing a feature story about what people will do to watch "The Game." If you are planning on being apart of the Ohio State-Michigan(in any way), I'd love to know about it. For example, are you taking extreme measures to get to the game? Did you sell your ticket for loads of cash? Do you have any rituals for game day? If you can't be in Columbus, how are you planning on watching the game? If you don't give a load of #### about college football, your mistake! Thanks for your help, any stories or comments are appreciated!
Me, I'm a huge Michigan fan so I watch every Michigan game. If I can't watch it on DirecTV, it's off to the casino.
This game however is different. I don't bet on this game anymore (I've lost every bet reguardless of how I bet it), and I do not goto the casion for this one either.
Bloggers- For example, I am driving in a SUV full of guys (I'm the only girl) from NYC to Columbus on Friday...then I will pick up my parents car to drive to Akron at 9PM to pick up my boyfriend from an inbound NYC flight so that both of us can drive back to Columbus by 1AM to go out and wake up for 9AM kegs n' eggs on OSU's campus. So for roughly 14 hours I will spend in a car to stand outside the stadium to witness the game. (My parents have tickets, but I don't think I could take them from the people who pay my rent...that's a little too much.) Of course, if I sold the two tickets, I could afford to PAY my rent for two months!
Miracle- Thanks for the comment! I'm not sure how I will feel if the game is close. Honestly, I don't want to see a rematch of "the game" in the BCS Championship Finale. (Although I'm sure the Big Ten would love that idea!) I think it's pretty funny how an imperfect system seems to prove over and over again how screwy it all is!
Rematches in bowl games are always a bad idea. They usually end up with the same results as the game during the season.
Which is why I’m glad Texas got beat, O State would have beat them again.
Not sure who would make a good opponent for the winner of this game. The Trojans haven’t really been impressive, and Florida squeaked by SC.
Maybe a rematch of this game would be the best game for the BCS…..Na.
i've been stranded at port columbus for over 2-months now. are you going to come and pick me up or not?
i will be having friends over to my place for the game. i have already purchased 10 kegs of natural light. 2 dozen large red car wash type plastic buckets. assembled 6 beer funnels. we will try to re-create the atmosphere of papa joe's bar circa 1994. complete with kegs and eggs and there will be a beer slide compition. i may even jump off of my second story balcony just as i did when i lived at 40 chittenden. i vowed to never jump again, but this is the biggest college football game of all time. first person to heave must immediatly do a cement mixer shot. first person to pass out gets stripped down and spray painted maize and blue. ewww. i just hope after the big bucks win that people here in LA realize that it is tradition to burn couches in the street even if it is not on indianola, but on venice blvd. i hope i don't incite a riot.

I think this is going to be the ABC Feature Game this weekend. But I also think it is getting the ESPN 360 coverage as well...
This game will be on pretty much EVERY channel and is really the only game anyone cares about this weekend.
As for A rematch in the Title Game it is possible..
If Michigan loses close and USC either squeeks by OR loses to Notre Dame they could stay ahead of USC in the polls. The human polls and the computers would probably not rank ND above Michigan because of the size of the win in South Bend eariler this year. Flordia has looked very bad to the human polls as far as points go because of the many squeekers this year.
Of all things I will be journying from New York to attend the NU/Illini game in Evanston to follow the action for the Sweet Sioux Tomahawk. I have a sneaky su####ion, however, that we will get updates on "the" game via the stadium's Jumbotron. I will be thinking of you, Belle.
On Saturday night I thought about making a run for some tickets to see this game. I'm not huge on NCAA Football but this is history. But, I know I would have blown a hole in my pocket.
I am 100% sure I get the game up in Canada. If so, I will be watching it easily.
This is a great idea for a paper. I'm interested to see how it turns out if you feel like emailing me a copy...
I am a fitness guy who doesn't normally drink, but on this occasion, I always make an exception- an exception that haunts me until about Tuesday, if you know what I mean. For the big game, I will be at "ground zero"- a massive keg party a few blocks from the stadium (Neil and Norwich) sometime between 9 and 11 AM, after which I will be attempting to score some last-minute tickets. If the ticket thing doesn't work out, we will all be gathering at another party at a friend's house who lives near campus (Neil and Weber). I will be wearing my F--- Michigan shirt.
Watching this game is what college football is all about. While my kids will have activities right up to game time, when "THE GAME" is on, my whole family will get to the closest TV (batteries, if necessary) and watch. Driving home to plant ourselves in front of the TV and celebrate the eventual trip to AZ in the goal. It has been 10 years since we've seen a game at the Shoe, but UM vs. OSU doesn't get any better!
For those of you not living on planet earth, the game is on ABC...as for cable, can't help you there since the only ABC channels I know are Columbus, OH (Channel 6) and New York City (Channel 7)
GoCatsNYC- Hey, anything can happen at that game. Both NU and Illionis have had fascinating wins this season. I'd say that game is a toss up and should be high scoring. I hope the wind isn't too bad up at Ryan Field. I also hope the purple outnumbers the orange.

TheDan- I scalped some tickets at the last OSU game I went to...$220 for a pair of seats on the 30 yard line against Minnesota. I doubt I'll be so lucky to even get one ticket for $250...but I would be willing to pay that much. I wish I could buy some seats this weekend, but I'm sure the other 50,000 people without seats have the same idea in mind. Go Canada!
Sports Intellectual- I'll be looking for you in the masses around High Street as I too will be trying to score tickets...or at least a good place to watch the game on a TV and near some reasonably priced food and beverages. I'd like to check out Eddie George's place, but I'd rather be within shouting distance of the 'Shoe when the game ends. Are you planning on burning your couch?
Well to the shock of everyone else, I will pass this game by and read about it later on here. I know there will be some trustworthy unbiased interpretations of the game. So I will be relying on everyone elses input.
Well, last I heard tickets wer approaching $1200 each. No one wants to miss this in person unless the money is insane..
As for the 360, they can change that if they want (and have once this year). It would not suprise me if they did. And even if they don't, this game will be shown from every angle for the next week after...
Former88- At least you're not like poor Maurice Clarett who turned himself in to authorities regarding an armed robbery case AFTER last year's Fiesta Bowl.
People that are not from Michigan or Ohio or have no ties to the schools will watch the game because it is "THE Game".
But if you knew anything about this rivalry, and you were from Michigan or Ohio, you wouldn't have to ask that question.
Time stops during this game and nothing else matters. It's not about pizza, chicken wings and cold beer. It's not about the number of people that you squeeze onto your couch. This is not the Super Bowl...this is "THE Game".
You want my stories about "THE Game"? Wolverines win, I'm your best friend....Wolverines lose, you don't know me.
OH How I wish I could be at this game live alas I can't afford the 5K it would cost me to go.. I am in Atlanta and heading to the 285 Bar which is a Michigan Alumni Bar. I along with every other Michigan Fan here in GA who can't attend the game will be there rooting our Wolverines on! Game is at 3:30 PM EST and if you want a seat you better get the bar at about 1:00 PM EST cause the seats will go quick.
Hi Belle: I won't watch the game, but am interested in the outcome. It matters not much to me who wins, since I have not liked Ohio since Woody Hayes' antics on the sidelines and Michigan....
Belle... First. As far as I know the avatar is legal because she isn't nude. And I will be taking care of the most adorable little boy this side of Texas this weekend. And since this is his place, I just take care of it for him, I'll probably be watching the Wiggles or Sesame Street instead.
FlyingPig- THE Game is about never being able to sit down for all four quarters because the anticipation and anxiety associated with the action on the field leaves you restless.
GoBigBlue- Here in NY at the OSU and UM Alum bars, you have to get in-line at the bar on the Tuesday before the game to put in a reservation...the phone lines are always jammed and the only way to get your seat is to have someone put in the reservation in person, otherwise you're SOL. Best of luck in Atlanta!
FuzzBoss- Would you not watch the SuperBowl just because you weren't a fan of a team in the big game? Oh well...hope you have a nice, relaxing Saturday!
Ty- Thanks for dropping in! Is Penn State on their by-week? I would love to see who their fans cheer for this weekend. I'd say, as an OSU fan, whenever Penn State and Michigan play, I still go for Penn State. I hear the ice cream in Happy Valley is to die for, hope you get a scoop!
It depends on what teams are in the SuperBowl. Some years I paid not a whit of attention to the game(s). Of course during most of them I was either in a damn patrol car somewwhere or inside a prison patrolling the blocks. Now during the 70's run of the Steelers our City streets were fairly much deserted, so little patrolling. I guess you could say I'm one-dimensional about the NFL.
Belle: There is a huge OSU alumni group here in Seattle that goes to a particular sports bar every Saturday during the season to watch the game on either cable or satellite, as appropriate. All come in their OSU jerseys, caps, and with very well oiled vocal cords, in order to cheer our Bucs on, and the better to "boo/hiss" at the guys from "that school up North," as Woody used to call them and I still do. So, that is where I will be on Saturday. I don't think it will be a blowout (though it would be nice if it is), but do think OSU goes all the way.
I am hosting a gathering of 7 or 8 of my employees- watching the game at my place- cookin up some ribs with a dry BBQ rub, and some home made Cajun chikcen tenderloins. Also making a meat and cheese tray, and of course the normal libations (Budweiser Select and Corona).
We are playing the squares to keep the whole game interesting- paying out after each quarter and resetting.
Belle, I really enjoy your work. I will have evicted my wife and daughters from the house and will be enjoying the game alone, because otherwise I would be unbearable. GO BLUE..
It should be the best game of the college season.
PS don't feel bad for the wife and kiddos, they will go shopping and probably spend as much as it would have cost me to simply fly up and go to the game..
bweldon-
I met a man who has a tradition each year of buying a bigger and better TV to watch the game on. He figures that for the exact same $$ spent on tickets he can invest towards his TVs. I guess it's the same way with your family!
The ultimate experience:
I am going to get to campus early. Stroll through the RV parking lot and gather in the aroma of coffee, sausage, and generators. Going to get the best seats in the corner for the Skull Session, and then relax and read the paper. When the frenzy reaches such a climax you'd think your eardrums and racing heart will burst, the band will come pouring through the entrance. You thought that was great, just wait until Tressel and the team come in! At an undetermined moment, I am going to turn to you and give my game ticket to you. No one deserves a seat at The Game more than you. Then I am going to go to the Alumni House and watch the big screen TV. I will return to the stadium during the fourth quarter so I can rush the field with you at the end of the game. GO BUCKEYES!!!!!
I guess that the guy that buys the TV's can afford it. I'll have to assume you have been to games at the "Shoe", and it is probably just as big an event as at Michigan. I have been lucky to have been to several UM games despite living in Texas, I was lucky enough to see Billy Taylor's touchdown against OSU in 71 (but that would depend upon your perspective) and the one thing I am going to do is take my kids up and let them experience a game at the big house. People down in Texas just do not understand the environment and the experience that a game there is like. It is probably the same for games at OSU. People do not know true tailgating till they have been to a football game in the Midwest in late October or November.
Who says a theater girl can't love sports? I may be a Northwestern graduate, but I'm an Ohio State Buckeye at heart. Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, I relocated to New York City to find a life on the stage. After four years of trying, (and finding some success), I am preparing to return to graduate school to pursue journalism. As an NGS II finalist, I got my feet wet as a FoxSports blogger and think it may be my new calling. Like theater, I doubt a job in online journalism will pay very well...but what can you do? I sing, I dance, and I can drink beer and eat chicken wings at a sports bar like the best of them...what more could you ask for?
