BREAKING NEWS: KLAC's Joe McDonnell Reports Turiaf Offer Not Met
Jul 17, 2008 | 10:34PM | report this

Hats off to The Lakers Nation for getting the word out about this. AM570’s Joe McDonnell is reporting the the Lakers will not be matching Ronny Turiaf’s $17 million, four year offer from Golden State.

I know, It’s just hearsay at this point in time, but Joe is one of the most professional guys on radio, and is known for his reliable sources.

It’s really going to pain me to see Ronny in a different uni next year, but at the same time, it wouldn’t have made monetary sense for the Lakers to pay out that kind of change for what is essentially an energy backup. I have a feeling that the frontladed nature of the contract also drove the Lakers away. Reports noted Ronny will be receiving $10 million in the first season of the new contract.

It's hard for me to believe that Chris Mullin would be willing to give Ronny $10 million in the first year. We're talkin' Chauncey Billups money here.

Ten mil for a backup? The Warriors WAY overpaid! Plus that frees up money for the Lakers to possibly get Ron Ron.

Turiaf was a crowd favorite for his enthusiam but he got broke off throughout the playoffs and is nowhere near worth this kind of money.

Good Luck Ronny.

I'll miss you Ronny.

...but the Lakers made the right descision...that's crazy money for what he is.

I wonder if G.S. will match the Clippers offer to Azubukie now.

$10m for warming the bench for anywhere between 25-30 minutes a game ?
Well at least it wasn't Elgin Baylor of the Clippers making the offer. They've been known to have done worst than this. And still are to an extent.

all i can say is i would hate to see him come back to L.A. and break the Lakers off. that would make it an official mess!

that's what i'm afraid of game. him coming in as a starter, and showing what he's worth.

i'm not a Laker fan...but my brother is, and he absolutely loved Turiaf for his energy, his hustle and defense. he almost reminded me of Oakley in NY a while back (minus the 15 foot J) he's allowed to have a bad playoff series isn't he? his first championship was his first experience at that level. the Celts were a veteran laced team that simply had more hustle and were a hungrier team. although i understand the Lakers not wanting to pay a reserve that much...maybe they should've given him a chance and tried to work something out.

The Lakers have to sign Kobe this year, Odom is making something like 15 million, Gasol is over 10 million, Walton and Rad are over 6 million, Sasha is a restricted free agent we need to keep. Bynum will almost certainly be extended if his knee is OK by training camp.

Where does the Lakers get 25 million to keep a reserve?

Alright GS, now let go get a point guard.
Al Harrington for Wilcox and Watson, get it done!

If it really is 10 million for the first season that's great for GS. That only 2.3million the next three years. Gives GS cap room after the fisrt year.

I'm a realistic observer of the vast world that surrounds the Los Angeles Lakers. You can thank Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Cedric Ceballos, and Vlade Divac for making that possible. The greatest person of all time is Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn. There's no getting around that. Me? I'm eighteen years old and working my way to a journalism degree.
