Lakers Re-Sign Vujacic
Jul 25, 2008 | 5:02PM | report this

After the threat of being the next NBA casualty to Europe, Sasha Vujacic and the Lakers have agreed to a deal.

After some tense negotiations, the Lakers and restricted free agent guard Sasha Vujacic agreed to a deal Friday afternoon, Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak confirmed.

The deal, according to sources close to the player, is for $15 million over three years.

The 6-foot-7 guard is scheduled to earn $5 million per season. [Press Enterprise]

The deal is a step up from the $12mil/three-year that the Lakers offered him yesterday. So there it is. The Sasha sweeps is over. Sasha got paid, Mitch got his guy, and everyone is happy.

Well, most everyone. Sasha’s $5mil/year deal makes him monetarily more valuable than both Derek Fisher and Andrew Bynum in their current contracts. This may bring up some questions as far as the financial situation that the Lakers are in. Despite the letting go of Ronny Turiaf, the Lakers are under pressure to extend Andrew Bynums contract for BIG money by the start of the season.

Great move. Because Sasha is one of the very few players who make a perfect complement to Kobe. Plus Sasha is worth every penny. His work ethic during the season and offseason is exemplary. Can't say the same thing about Walton and Vladrad.

The Lakers still have their midlevel left. What will they do? Rumor is that they are talking to Jorge Garbajosa, a 6-9 PF from Spain who can shoot, rebound, and play decent defense.

Will they trade Mihm and keep Mbenga? Is Walton's future with the franchise in jeopardy? Many questions are still left unanswered.

Go Mitch!!!

The solution for being over the cap and signing Bynum is with Rad and Odom. Get rid of them and bring in Artest at 7 or 8 million and get rid of Rad for draft picks and a 3 legged dog somewhere and things are fine.

Smart move by the Lakers actually re-signing a player from the bench, who's good. Is he their point guard of the future?

He could be PF. It depends on what they decide to do with Jordan Farmar, who will undoubtedly demand a higher contract than Sasha's and could still be traded for the right player(s).

Considering that Vujacic was one of their best and most intense bench players, I agree that this was a good move. Now, if only they could open up space by dumping Odom, then they might be onto something.

I have to agree with ND here...get rid of Rad..

Jordan Farmar and Sasha couldn't play together with out argueing last season, rhe management have to do something about that.

they both can play different position..
most are bashing on kobe not being a team player but this two cannot play in thesame floor with out spitfire!!!LOL

The re-signing of Sasha was a good move. He's a very good bench player that shoots lights out on any giving night.
