The Lakers just solidified a playoff berth with a come-from-behind 112-108 win over the "panic time" Mavs.
Lamar Odom pulled his weight tonight, setting a season high with 31 points; three off from a career night. Odom pulled down 10 rebounds, dished out five assists, and blocked two shots. Impressive? I'd say so.
Kobe posted 25 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Pau played elegantly (I've been jonesing to say that for quite some time no) with 25 points, four rebounds, and two blocks.
I'd say it was a near-picture perfect night from the triad.
Vlad Rad played like Vlad Bad tonight, posting four points on 0-4 from three-point land. The Nation is counting the days until Pau jumps over to the 4, Bynum acclimates himself back into the starting 5, and Odom rocks the "no pressure" 3.
Dallas certainly put up a fight, as anyone watching the game would attest. Dirk scored 27, Jason Terry put up 23, and Josh Howard added 23 and seven.
So, with seven out of eight teams in the East already in, the Lakers become just the second to clinch a spot in the West. This also marks Phil Jackson's 17th career playoff berth in his 17 seasons in the association.
Hats off to Lamar tonight. I don't have a problem calling this one of his best games in a Lakers uniform. He's had a few big ones, but none I can recall have come at such a pivotal time of the season. For those of you lucky enough: Playoff tickets go on sale tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 10am through Ticketmaster. And, for the niche stuff: Ira Newble saw action for the second time as a Laker tonight. Newble managed to pull down one rebound in 2:37. So, his totals as a Laker now stand at two points and one rebound in 6:23.
Lakers tickets will sell out in approximately 24 minutes.
You know how everyone, especially Boston fans, love to chant "Beat L.A"?
How 'bout one for the ones wearing green: "Beat the C's! Beat the C's! Beat the C's!"
I'm on my seventh glass of cognac, my lady is watching I Am Legend downstairs w/ my mother and sister, and I'm here blogging it up like crazy on a Friday night because my other half won't allow me to on the weekdays. I'm on PokerStars.Net at the same time and the Lakers won against another playoff contender, making us forget the losses to measly Memphis and crappy Charlotte.
Ahh...we are all in the same boat...women just outside of our fingertips...you mentioned Poker...that Vanessa chick is hot! I wouldn't give the C the respect of instituting a chant. Beat LA is international, and is as much of a compliment to us as the jokers that are clinging to hope by chanting it. By the way, again, speaking of cognac, I only know about Remy Martin. My buddy gave me a bottle of Jacques Cardin...nice bottle, so I am assuming it's good...do you know?
I've got you both beat. I'm 18, in my social prime, and I'm sitting at home doing nothing with Vitamin Water and no women anywhere. It turns out that the Lakers are more important than the final friday night of spring break.

J-Dizzle, hope you enjoyed that cognac! I celebrated with a Danny Borracho, which has vodka, tequila, lime juice (HAS to be Rose's), and 7-up. I may get some Jack tomorrow and save it up for the playoffs.
Tim, Lakers also gained a position in the West playoff race. Is New Orleans playing out of their minds or what? While they're a nice team, I see the pressure of the playoffs getting to them. It'll be Lakers vs. Celtics in the Finals.
"no Women anywhere. It turns out that the Lakers are more important than the final friday night of spring break."
Enjoy it Tim, wish I were in your shoes since there's no longer such a thing as spring break in my world. As far as the women are concerned, the Lakers SHOULD BE more important.
YUH8TN: The bottle looks sharp, especially because of the Fleur de Lys on it. It's smooth tasting but nothing beats Hennessey, not even Remy Martin. If you ever get a chance to try Hennessey Paradis or Remy Martin 1732, you'll be heaven.
Thanks Jon 464, never tried a Danny Borracho since I'm not a huge fan of vodka. Since you're pickin up some Jack, try mixing it with Ginger Ale if you haven't already tried it. It's one of my favorite simple mixes and goes great with Laker games.
everyone see kobe defer to lamar when he saw odom had the hot hand? why kobe is a leader and bron is a shooter. all this talk about bron and his assists and now when it matters last two weeks kobe has more rebounds and more assists. and bron avgs less than a basket more than kobe. whoopie.
tim,
Nice game summary. Lamar could probably do this every night if he had a green light. Remember what he did in the playoffs with Miami? The man has talent...he just seems apathetic sometimes...but NOT last night! What a weapon to have as our FOURTH option (once Bynum establishes himself) Lamar was upset by the trade rumors this year and voiced his desire to stay in LA, I hope when his free agency rolls around that he does.
-Maybe we'll get lucky and the Lakers will go Pearl Jam against RIPOFFmaster...that way, I can attend the playoff games without having to refinance my house!
If not, I'll still be watching...
Dallas shot lights out in the first half, yet the Lakers kept them in their sights. The Lakers' defense smothered the Mavs in the second half. I fully expect to see the Lakers and C's in the Finals. (With a repeat of 1985, only Kobe hits the super clutch shot instead of Magic, and the Lakers win it in six games)
I'm a realistic observer of the vast world that surrounds the Los Angeles Lakers. You can thank Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Cedric Ceballos, and Vlade Divac for making that possible. The greatest person of all time is Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn. There's no getting around that. Me? I'm eighteen years old and working my way to a journalism degree.
