"NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Pau Gasol sprained his left ankle and needed
help limping off the court in the first quarter of the Los Angeles
Lakers' game against the New Orleans Hornets on Friday night. Gasol was running into the lane looking for a potential offensive
rebound when he appeared to step on teammate Vladimir Radmanovic's foot.
Gasol
came up lame, favoring his left leg, as the Hornets took the ball the
other way, then was helped to the locker room after New Orleans scored
and the Lakers called timeout.
Lakers officials said the 7-foot
starting center, who is averaging 19.2 points and 8.6 rebounds this
season, would not return to the game." [Fox Sports]
[Edit 11:08pm] The Lakers official "Basketblog" reports: "The ankle sprain is severe enough that he will miss the remainder of the Lakers 4
game road trip. Pau will be re-assessed in the next few days to
determine the full extent of the injury."
CAMike, in the comments of this post, pointed this out:
"Interesting that all three injuries (Bynum, Ariza, Gasol) occured with contact from another Laker."
All that said, Lakers @ Houston - Sunday - 12:30pm - ABC
Somebody needs to clean house in the Laker training staff. Every year this team has the same nagging injuries.. It is becoming more than just coincidence.
Interesting that all three injuries (Bynum, Ariza, Gasol) occured with contact from another Laker.
I have to say, please stop crying about Pau Gasols little ankle sprain. you guys rip the rockets but soon as you get a little one week injury, here comes the pity party. They have to play without Yao so you get no sympathy from me. Man up and play ball. You still have Kobe and we all know he is th ebest in the league so quit whinning. Lets just hope neither team looses anyone on Sunday.
Well, ramogriff, if you're commenting on the content in my post -- I was simply addressing the injury with all of the info I could find, because I know there's a lot of laker fans on here.
Regardless of the extent of the injury, Lakers fans already saw injuries plague last season... and thought the same when Bynum went down. Pau was the answer, and the Lakers were playing well with him in the rotation -- obviously. To see Pau go down, even if it is for just the remainder of the trip, strikes a nerve with a lot of fans.
Sure they still have Kobe, but we've already seen this season that the West is too tough for the Lakers to negotiate comfortably with just Kobe.
I don't have 'sympathy' for the Rockets because they're one of the hottest teams in the history of the NBA. They're playing well without Yao, and I've sang their praises on my blog already. The Rockets are hot. As a fan, I'm not very excited to see the outcome on Sunday. That said, the Rockets have a tough schedule coming up. It's going to be interesting. If the Rockets miss the playoffs, I'll feel sorry for you.
you can't truelly believe they will miss the playoffs. I'm not saying they will win a championship but I seriously doubt they miss the playoffs but hey, discounting teams from Houston is nothing new. We will see but if they make it, I guess it will be by sheer luck because as everyone else says, the Rockets are all smoke and mirrors. nevermind the history making defense.
You are 100% correct. Like technology, the medical field moves constantly. The Mavericks and the Suns pride themselves on being on the cutting edge of both, and that's why they have confidence that they can take on fragile players like Grant Hill and succeed with them.
The Lakers on the other hand, HAVE to be doing something wrong.

Yes, every team has injuries, but that's like saying every team has jerseys.
The Lakers lost the most man games to injuries of any team that made the playoffs last year.
Now this year, the Lakers have 3 7-footers, (Mihm, Bynum and Gasol), and all 3 are out with injuries. Add to that down time from Radmanovich, Walton, Ariza and Turiaff, and you can see that 7 of the Lakers FRONT COURT players have been out with injuries. That is WAY too many for one the youngest team in the NBA.

Using your logic, since the Cavs have never beat the Hornets this year, LeBron shouldn't be MVP either. :-(
I'm a realistic observer of the vast world that surrounds the Los Angeles Lakers. You can thank Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Cedric Ceballos, and Vlade Divac for making that possible. The greatest person of all time is Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn. There's no getting around that. Me? I'm eighteen years old and working my way to a journalism degree.
