The Lakers unveiled their latest throwback tonight; the 1987-1988 World Champion rendition. Showtime was restored in La Cuidad, and the Lakes met the challenge, winning 123-113 over the Warriors, who were paying homage to the '75 team.
The Lakers posted SEVEN in dubs: Kobe (28), Andrew Bynum (20 and 11), D- FIsh (15), Vlad Rad (14), Lamar Odom (14 and 10), TREVOR ARIZA! (11), and Ronny Turiaf (10).
In my opinion, the unis stole the show. I typically lean more toward the technical side of the game, but tonight, the visions of my youth were re-hashed (read that in an elegant tone). It was good to see the Lakers rock the old digs, even though the only thing that's different is the color scheme on the numbers, and the absence of the v-neck. The casual observer may not have even noticed the difference, but long-time Lakers fans couldn't help but admire tribute to jersey worn by the Lakers from the mid-70s to 1999.
You completely stole my blog. I didn't care if they would've won or lost, the unis completely made my night.
Was it just me, or from a distance could Vlad Rad pass as a skinny Vlade Divac? Something about the facial hair and a zoom out while they were standing at the FT line...
closerthanyouthink - it would have been cool to see them rock the shorts, but you just know nobody would be down with it. It might even hinder today's style of play..
lakersfan - if vlad rad would have had just a little more hair, it would of been perfect. i totally know what you're talking about.
the lakers unis barely passed as throwback. i mean, the lakers were wearing these as recently as the 98-99 season. heck, kobe and fisher both had worn these jerseys for 3 full seasons at the beginning of their careers. they could have been paying homage to the pig miller and sam bowie days for all we knew. regardless, it reminded me of my earliest basketball memories when i was 6 watching jordan and magic go at in in the 91 finals, so i dug the look. at least it wasn't those fugly MPLS powder blue jerseys they rocked a few years back.

though what you say is true pdloos, personally, that added to the allure. I grew up with the nick van exel, eddie jones, vlade divac, ect.. teams, and this really struck a chord with me.
...and, i agree with you on the MPLS jerseys. those, along with the blue and white "los angeles" script jerseys were terrible.

The best quote of the night was from Stu,"I don't think they could breathe if they were wearing the short, shorts.." Just imagine how much taller Bynum would look if he had to wear the old school Dazy Dukes! LOL!
this wasn't the same uniform from the 60's, early 70's, they had white numbers, but the 80's version had the purple numbers like the Lakers wore against the warriors.
those uniforms look the same to me. its the white jersey's they should be wearing at home, forget the playoffs - who says the lakers are guaranteed to make the playoffs?
man, i was at the game...and those uni's did steal the show...I kept turnin to my lady and sayin "god i love those uniforms."
makes me wonder why they changed in the first place...make like Coke and go back to the classic! (well, at least classic for me)
Lakersfan19, I saw what you saw in Radmanovic..that same neadering around the court, kinda of drunk, just smoked a cigarette look on his face....pretty funny
I'm a realistic observer of the vast world that surrounds the Los Angeles Lakers. You can thank Nick Van Exel, Eddie Jones, Elden Campbell, Cedric Ceballos, and Vlade Divac for making that possible. The greatest person of all time is Francis Dayle "Chick" Hearn. There's no getting around that. Me? I'm eighteen years old and working my way to a journalism degree.
