Make that 4-0; Clippers cash in on veteran talent en route to fourth straight
Nov 07, 2007 | 8:23PM | report this

Clippers 104, Pacers 89

Is this really happening?

Are the CLIPPERS really 4-0?

Well, it turns out they are, and with a huge win over the Pacers tonight, it's only a matter of time before these guys start making headlines.

That "washed up point guard" everyone was talking about... Sam Cassell... He just dropped 35 in the face of the now 3-1 Pacers.

That "tall white guy" that isn't enough of a presence down low... Chris Kaman... He just pulled down 22 rebounds.

The bottom line, is that this team is playing with heart. For those who don't know why this is even more amazing that it would usually be, the Clippers are playing without their franchise player, Elton Brand until at least February. Elton, by far has been the most productive Clipper in recent memory, and when he went down in August, tearing an achilles in a daily workout, the 2007-2008 season instantly went down the drain; or so we thought.

ESPN the Magazine predicted the Clippers to finish the season 14th out of 15 in the Western Conference, and judging by how last season went, nobody really doubted it.

Still though, I leave myself wondering "when is this going to end?"

Give 'em some credit

This is the media's worst nightmare. All summer long; Kobe this, Kobe that. All September long; Kobe this, Kobe that. All October long; Kobe this, Kobe that. Basically, in Los Angeles, the media is fixated on the enigma that Kobe Bryant is, and the impact that he has on the Lakers.

It's a fact that there is an overwhelming majority of Lakers fans Southern California, but if the Clippers keep getting swept under the mat by the media, something needs to be done.

Cool your jets. the clippers started out 5-0 and 15-5 once year in the 90's before missing the playoffs. I learned many years ago to get excited about the clippers when they are in the 8th seed 3 games ahead of 9 with only two to go.

And the fact is the Kobe is the closest thing to MJ playing today. Media is not going to hop on the clipper bandwagon until they do something. They been on it and got their head cracked when the tires blew out too many times.

Kamen played like a guy on crack last season and while The alien will have those nights and happy for him, he's got a bad back, he's 102 and you can't delude your self into thinking he is going to be the bossman all season long. Mobley and Maggs are both notrious streak shooters who tend to start tailing off in their shooting %'s by mid season and Mags is usually hurt by midseason. I've gotten worked up about the clippers too many times and I dont see how this lineup can hold the fort until if and when Brand is 100% and fresh. More power to them, wish them well but just know the Clippers lead the NBA in breaking hearts for a franchise.

im not, by any means "excited".
i just think that after this game, they deserve some recognition.

I remember two years back when they won that series and the media rode them.

I honestly could listen to Kobe talk all day, but there are two teams in LA.

I just think its remarkable that, though its early, this team is looking so good.

Kaman still sucks, and Cassell is older than 102. As I said, "when is this going to end?"

I'm waiting for the wheels to fall off.

Screw the Clippers.

Still, how are they winning these games? I don't actually watch Clipper games cuz watching a guy older than dirt lead a bunch of second rate ballers around Staples Center is like watching the JV team before the real stars come to play for the Varsity game, so can someone explain how these fools are beating these teams?

biz: agreed, however, the bulls are supposed to be a top five team in the east, and the pacers were 3-0 up to this game.

but in the end, lake show all the way baby!

Lakers are a joke. if you wanna watch drama, turn on "the hills" on MTV. The clippers play good team basketball, something Kobe has no idea about. Kobe's idea of team basketball is #### and moan until anyone else with talent gets traded, then have everyone pass to him. Then when he cant beat teams by himself, complain and ask to get traded. Clippers are a better team than the Lakers. If Kobe shut the hell up and just played, that team could be really good and I would respect them. Kobe is a ####, i dont care how good he is. All you who say "clippers suck" are just stupid trendy laker fans. Watch them play and you will see that the Clippers are playing great basketball right now. If you cant admit that, then you are not a basketball fan.

Three reasons for the CLIPPERS early-season success but probably won't last til January.

1) KAMAN is earning his keep averaging 16.5 boards a game against the likes of Brad Miller, Jermain O'Neal, Nick Collison, and Ben Wallace. Not too shabby.

2) Increased confidence by Corey Maggette and Tim Thomas because they know they will get shots now that EB is out.

3) Defensive intensity and energy brought on by players like Ruben Patterson, Brevin Knight, and Al Thornton.

doogs-

Lakers are a joke? Get outta here...

I'm tired of all you reject Clipper fans who wanna seem like you're original cuz you root for a loser. Laker fans are Laker fans to be trendy? Get the #### outta here...We've been trash for the past 3 years and the real fans are still here.

Bottom line is that the Clips were the big and bad squad coming into last year who were supposed to compete for the Pacific and make to the Conference Finals, and ya'll got knocked the #### out before the playoffs even arrived.

You had a much better team than the Lakers coming into last season, but ya'll stunk it up cuz the Clippers are synonymous with garbage.

Kudos on the great start, but the Clippers shouldn't throw away their lucky charms cuz they'll definitely need em when the ping pong balls are bouncing for the number one draft pick.

haha, you guys are do*chebags. Kaman is a good player who had a rough season last year so get ready for him to tear up the league. Maggette averages 20 pts a game for the last 5 years. The clipps play good defense. Cuttino Mobley isnt that old and he is playing great so far. Im pretty sure Elton and Shaun Livingston come back in February. We will be alright. The Lakers are at full strength and are nothing more than average, so wait until the injuries pile up for them. That should be fun to watch Coby Karl in the game. Ya that sh*tty player the Lakers kept on their roster. Pretty sure Jerry Buss was drunk when he gave the ok for that to take place. Anyway, good luck talking #### about the Clippers and being insecure about the Lakers because they dont play team basketball.

It's funny seeing these myopic Faker fans making excuse after excuse. The truth is, the Clips have shown more heart than anyone could've imagined. You're right, they have no right being 4-0, or so the media and the nation(except Clipper Nation) thought.

Brand's absence has been a blessing in disguise for Kaman and he's taking full advantage. Everyone is. The Clips are actually a deep team, probably 9 or 10 deep. And this year, they're looking to hit the three ball with much more regularity and run a more uptempo offense as well.

The real test comes tomorrow at Detroit. And should they somehow pull this one out, I'll think it'll turn more people into believers than at any point of this season thus far.

I like the CLIPPERS. They're my second favorite team next to the Lakers. I respect them. I respect their coach, and I respect their players.

But Clipper fans should not talk smack because they should remember that every time the CLIPS play at Staples, there are purple and gold banners and jerseys hanging above their heads.

The Clippers should have moved to the Honda Center in Anaheim years ago because instead of being called the LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS OF ANAHEIM, they will forever be under the Lakers' shadow playing on Figueroa and 11th.

Lmao at Clipper Nation...

You had Chris Kaman and Elton Brand last season, and you still couldn't make it to the playoffs. We had three starters outta the lineup and we finished above you rejects.

And speaking of you being rejects, I love how you got the biggest reject of all time as your coach. Let's go over his career highlights...you know, never winning in LA, and never with that Portland squad that was supposed to go all the way.

And you wanna talk about our roster? The best player on your team right now with Brand gone in Maggette wants to be in Chicago. Guess the Lakers and Clippers have more in common than you thought...

Truth of the matter is that Brand is gone once his contract expires, Sam is already done, Livingston is a never was who never will be either, and at the end of the day good luck building your team around Chris Kaman. I'm sure you can expect 22 boards on a regular basis...

By the way, I love how you know the name of our worst player, yet nobody in Los Angeles can name 3 outta 5 people in your starting lineup.

CLIPPER NATION RULES!

I want Kobe to get traded to the Clippers. That would be a funny #### trade. A few months ago he said he wanted to be traded , but he did not say it had to be out of LA.

I love laker fans. Im so entertained at how ridiculous they are. theyre just a bunch of idiots i mean kobe is the only reason they like the lakers and he is an embarrasment to the game. i know he's one of the most talented players, maybe of all time, and i admit that i do enjoy watching him play but he's a selfish player so its no wonder he hasn't been able to do anything since shaq left. Shaq was a real Laker. Kobe is a joke.
Go Clips

folks, eventually LA's other team(Clipper) will shines and Lakers will sink to the LA's Lake. Clippers by far has beaten Golden State, Bulls, Seattle, and Indian, these are the good teams, due to Clippers are will under dog all season long and they will play their heart out and you all watch out Laker fans. you will only see Clippers in summer of the 08 at the Staple Center.

laker fans are posers. Clipper fans have passion for the game of basketball. they know it, and thats why these guys on here are throwing around insults because they are insecure about being fans. its like he said. most people cant even name 3 out of 5 on the lakers starting lineup. ya, real true fans there!!!

oh ya, 4-0. hows being .500???

Hows being .500? I'm sorry, I must've mis-heard the question, I had three championships in the last seven years distracting me.
