FARE THEE WELL TIM RUSSERT / GO BILLS
Jun 19, 2008 | 9:12AM | report this

I was as shocked as most of the the USA when Tim  Russert died last week of an apparent heart attack.

Life seems to be cruel at times and for this great country to lose Tim  Russert 's voice at a relatively young age is especially disturbing. The entire country mourned his death and the media types ,politicians and power brokers all paid their respects . It was like a who's who of the politico elite.

Enough has been said by the politicos some of whom are breathing easier .they wont have Tim astin' tough questions and demandin'  the truth.

His death was a bad beat for me.

BY CHANCE...we met on a trip to Washington DC i was laid over at Indianapols .I up graded to first class Lo and behold my new seat mate was Tim Russert .as always he was readin' and researchin'.  he looked up at me from drug strore readin' glasses and before he could say a word . i bellowed  "Ain't you Big Russ's kid?"  we laughed loud and long his face lit up like a Xmas tree when i told him i was from Hibbing, Mn. ...VIKING fan and a long time Las Vegan.

That's all we needed this guy was amazin'  for the next few hours we dissected all 8 super bowl losses .no politics . he went to my website and was kind ....He told me to go for it ...He had a way of opening you up . He ast a thousand questions ...i didn't dare not answerin' honestly ....He loved the BOSS (Bruce Springsteen). but was enamored with (Frank Sinatra ) and when he knew i knew THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD we were bonded .

His love of country, sports and family and his enthusiasm for the truth will be his legacy . but i cant but wonder how many lives he touched in a positive way. BY CHANCE... my life is better for meetin' him......THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES

FARE THEE WELL TIM RUSSERT / GO BILLS........

POSTSCRIPT...my heart goes out to his family... To his son ...think of your dad often and listen for advice... there will be signs... his good soul will be ever present and with you always

What Russert brought to the political roundtable and the debate was that everyman touch . And when he pressed a candidate or politician on a question. He made us feel that he was doing so on our behalf . As he didn't want us to be or feel shorthchanged by their answers.

Russert and NM Governor Bill Richardson.

Whereas his counterparts would just opine and interject themselves into the debate. He was the consummate professional of his craft and second to none !

So glad you decided to share your amazing memories of him here. He was someone everyone wanted to meet and lucky were those who could say he was their friend. As one of the last true professionals in his field, he will be greatly missed by many. Can't image Meet the Press without him. Go Bills.

It'll certainly be strange on Sunday mornings watching Meet The Press and not seeing Russert in the host's chair. Apparently Brian Williams will be hosting the show until they can find a permanent replacement.

As to who that'll be is certainly open to conjecture. But whoever it is won't be able to fill his shoes.

Williams'll make a good short term host I believe ! There are two guys however that I feel would genuinely fit the bill. And they are CNN's Anderson Cooper and other is Fareed Zakaria . The latter being a contributor on ABC's Sunday morning news show. But he's known internationally as Editor in Chief of Newsweek Int'l . His knowledge of domestic and international affairs is vast.

See my new post up within this forum and let me know what you think as to its merits ? It's titled To Serve, But To Do So With Distinction And Pride ! I'll look forward to reading your comments as and when you're ready.

Just noticed this blog, probably a little too late, but..

I'd also like to pay my respects to Mr. Tim Russert. He was a great man, a very knowledgable man, and the greatest Buffalo ambassador, and he was proud of it.

R.I.P. Mr. Tim Russert, you were a great man.
