DOES THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME AND I'M CONFUSED WHAT IS THE CRIME ? 30 YEARS ..... I DONT EVEN LIKE THE GUY ,BUT THIS INDICTMENT BOTHERS ME ...THE FEDS CAN BURY ANY ONE THEY CHOSE TO ... IT'S SCARY .... THEY GOTS HIM ON A PINNOCHIO.... HOPEFULLY A JURY OF HIS PEERS WILL SORT THIS AWEFUL THING OUT FOR OUR COUNTRY AND BASEBALL.........I FOR ONE FEEL HE DID AT ONE TIME USE PERFORMANCE ENHANCING PRODUCTS AND ITS WRONG ........, THERE WERE NO RULES UNTIL AFTER THE FACT...A JUDGE SIGNED THAT INDICTMENT AND WAS SURELY AWARE OF THE SEVERE SENTENCE GUIDELINES ... YES, I KNOW ALL ABOUT THE PLEA BARGAIN SYSTEM ...THE FEDS WANT BLOOD AND A GUILTY PLEA .... MAYBE I'M GETTIN' SOFT BUT THIS WHOLE THING BOTHERS ME ......PROSECUTION OR PERSECUTION THAT IS THE QUESTION...

I'm not one to counter what's perceived as the judicial in this proud country. But if
as alleged Bonds did lie to federal investigators in the matter . Then so be it with regard to whatever charges they're seeking. But the incompetence that's been shown by all parties makes this a lot like one of the silent comedies from the twenties. It's been totally comical and one wonders how much time ESPN will be devoting to all of this over the coming months ?
Less we forget also we've still got the OJ fiasco unfolding along with the sentencing of Vick yet to come.
One supposes that this is exactly the sort realism we're seeking to export across the world ?
I still can't understand why people can't grasp the concept that it was AGAINST the LAW in this country through the Anabolic Steriod Act of 1990 that made non-prescribed usage and distribution of Anabolic steriods against the law and punishable up to 10 years in FEDERAL prison.
So if it was already against the laws of the U.S.A. then BASEBALL DID NOT HAVE TO HAVE A DRUG POLICY IN EFFECT. The United States did. So to say MLB didn't have a policy on steriods on the books is irrelevant.
It is a CRIME and therefore falls under the morals clause which have been part of contracts WHICH EVERY professional athlete signs and has signed for as long as Bonds has been playing.

There is a sizable list of reasons for anyone not to like *Barry Bonds, but persecution as you are implying would be unfair.
However in life "what goes around comes around" and if he did in fact lie while under oath to protect his career/reputation then he should have chosen the truth.
And by the way...............The lawyer/adviser that tells someone to lie under oath should face the same charges.
tophatal....... i agree this whole fiasco is bordering on a greek melo drama with the tax payers the executive producers .
socrates .......you have a very decisive mind and seem to know the laws of in -carceration ... i agree with you on the 1990 anabolic steroid act ceptin' since the early 90's the products being vilianized are the designer stuff (balco) and the amino acids, that i take and buy from gnc nutrition stores.... human growth hormone is the new culprit , which my dr. prescribes to old farts like me ....... we all have to quit using the word steroids to address this issue ... i'm not so sure federal prison is the answer to all the ills of society ...like i said in my blog i dont like this bonds , but i feel chasin' him for years to prove he's a lier, or is it to make an example of someone and if that is the case we should of thrown a white guy under the bus ... i'm italian and we would have been the fall guy ceptin' giambi sang...

duckman ...amen on da lawyer he was side by side through-out the grand jury probe ...yes what comes around goes around...bonds is a jerk and my instincts have carried me a long way in life.. they want to bury this guy and drag the fans and the country through an overblown circus -like trial with sharpton and jackson 's face and voices all over the media ... but in the meantime the feds will have spent millions for this comedy of errors ... i need someone who can figure out what should be done with the entire enhance performing products ... most of them aren't drugs and can be purchased at health food stores ...
The more i think of it ....this indictment is goin' to open PANDORA'S BOX ....

This whole thing is just sad. The Federal government has no reason to be getting involved in baseball. Just ridiculous. The prohibition of drugs is about as smart as the prohibition of alcohol. I hope Barry goes free so maybe the justice department can do something meaningful with taxpayer dollars.
