I guess you really are nothing more than a Stupid Jock!
Aug 23, 2007 | 8:57AM | report this

Another one bites the dust.. another bites the dust.. yeah another one’s gone another one’s done another one bites the dust.

Another day, another Vick post right, wrong. I am tired of talking about Vick, I have already spoken my peace about his situation. The focus of this post is the pro athletes speaking up in support of Vick and the logic they use.

* Chris Samuels: gets a bye. All he said, “You can't accuse this man of something and go ahead and throw the book at him right now. He's got to be convicted first. I don't think that's fair." However,  it needs to be mentioned that he hasn’t opened his mouth since the plea.

1. Clinton Portis: the O.G. famous quote, “It’s his property, it’s his dog. If that’s what he wants to do, do it.”/ ”…I think people should mind their own business.”

Alma Mater- University of Miami

2. Joe Horn:    "If Michael Vick steps through that gate at any time, I'm going to be there waiting for him with open arms," Horn said. "Not just because of his athletic ability, but because he's a good person.”

Apparently, Horn does not know or care for the severity of the crimes. Listen, Joe Horn is an attention seeking NFL diva who lives by the “all press is good press” mantra. Apparently Vick is a good person because he  said hi to Joe Horn’s( 3rd person) little boy, and because he got Joe Horn the damn ball at a Pro Bowl a few years back. Alma Mater- Itawamba (MS) JC 3. Roy Jones Jr. take 1:  “Fighting animals don’t necessarily get mistreated. They get treated just the way I get treated.”

4. Stephon Marbury: “dogfighting is a sport … just behind close doors” He’s right when he talks about hunting deer and other game (I oppose hunting animals for “sport”) Here is a prime example of someone who apparently grew up with the idea that dog fighting was okay either through movies, music videos and maybe even exposure. People would call this exposure to the “thug” culture (I am not calling Starbury a thug) but let’s not forget that the father of the thug culture is the Scarface dillusion.

Alma Mater- Georgia Tech

4. Roy Jones Jr. take 2: “People like to see bad things… People are rooting against a man over an animal, kind of like how people were asked to choose between a killer and Jesus Christ.”/ “Let’s not let a dog(divide us).” He also entertained the idea that Vick was doing this so that the co-defendants could “make a living” and that they turned on Vick when “they weren’t making as much as they thought they would.”

Nothing more than a fast talking back tracking stupid jock concerned more with promoting his fight with Tito (Go “Tito”) and dancing around the cockfighting issues swirling around him.

I guess the stereotype of the stupid jock is an accurate one after all.  What did these guys get out of their college level Square dancing course, or History of Fast Food course? Didn’t they learn anything? What does this say about the level of brain power in pro sports?

Certainly, I am disappointed that pro athletes really are this stupid but I am upset that there is little or no voice of opposition to tell me otherwise. I want to see an athlete step up and say that Vick was wrong; step up and say Vick deserves what he gets. Jim Brown and Mark Schelereth (sp. check) didn’t quite get there so I am calling out all current and former athletes black, white, brown , yellow… to step up  and be heard.  Where is Charles Barkley, Tony Gonzalez, Tori Hunter, Bret Favre…?  Bill Walton, Hank Aaron, Emmitt Smith…? The list goes on and on. Are they afraid of speaking up against a fellow Falcon, football player, black athlete, Va tech alumn? Speak up or forever remain a stupid jock!

ABOUT ME

texasbagger
Let's see I love athletic competition: seeing, doing and talking/blogg
ing about it. I am not as serious about it as I used to be. I'm not going to be one of these cheese and whine bloggers who makes excuses after a tough loss and looses his/ her lid. I will admit, I find myself cheering against certain athletes/ sports figures just as much as I cheer for my favorite athletes. Maybe I will right a blog about later. I try and stay away from political posts because they always end in a stale-mate. However, sometimes I do indulge in the occasional social political rant. Keep an open-mind we will get along just fine. Lastly Track and Field is my fav. sport, I also like WSM and MMA (except IFL that's a joke).
